Getz: Record “frustrating” but rebuilding takes time
https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/white-sox-score-season-high-9-runs-in-win-over-rays#:~:text=Speaking before club's season-best,focus is on strengthening foundation&text=CHICAGO -- Amid one of,month into the 2024 season. Notice it was the author of the story and not Getz who used the term rebuilding. Getz did call Grifol “steady,” lol, not sure if that’s a vote of confidence. “We’re at a point right now where we’re trying to go out there and score more runs,” Getz said before the game. “There are some younger players on this roster. We will continue to add younger players as the season progresses. Some of those veteran guys that have been through situations -- perhaps like this before or have a proven track record -- can help in the development of players at the Major League level.” When asked about Pedro Grifol, Getz used the word “steady” to describe the second-year manager during this tough start. He discussed what he looks for when evaluating Grifol, which includes how he communicates with players and his in-game decisions. ….. “Anyone from an outside perspective [will say], ‘Why did we do that? Why didn’t we do that?’” Getz said. “More so, I really focus on the development of our players, and are we on the right track to getting those guys to be productive Major League players? That is the most important thing right now.” As the White Sox look to get things on track, their general manager’s continued evaluation of the present and beyond will continue. "I've just got to focus on how to get us better and getting this organization healthy,” Getz said. “I've got to have a big-picture mindset. This wasn't going to be a quick fix by any stretch. We had a lot of areas that need to be improved. It's my job to do that and make good decisions for the health of the organization."

It's an interesting history to say the least. Certainly provides more of an appreciation for the compromises made by the great French and Spanish fashion houses during WW2. Binoche and Mendelson are both standouts.

Pham up, Pillar out
“I look at it as a blessing and as an opportunity to show the work I put in in the offseason,” said Pham, entering his 11th major league season with his eighth team. “I lost some weight to be more athletic and I'm excited for the opportunity.” Manager Pedro Grifol said Pham will be able to help fill a gap in center for now. All-Star Luis Robert, Jr. played in just seven games before suffering a right hip flexor strain that was expected to keep him out of the lineup for six to eight weeks. The White Sox also recalled outfielder Rafael Ortega from Charlotte, while optioning outfielder Dominic Fletcher. Chicago designated left-hander Bailey Horn and outfielder Kevin Pillar for assignment.

Bleacher Report ranks Sox MiLB system 3rd
Reminiscent of Hahn constantly citing his AL Executive of the Year award. The only BR that matters inside the industry is Baseball-Reference.

Smart enough not to give in on the FB. Escaped.

Can't pull him. Do get one more mound visit in the 9th apparently.

First time Leasure under real legitimate pressure. Last Sox mount visit.

Harrelson would be apoplectic with that walk. Grifol managing this one like his job depends upon it.

Rays and White Sox will be tied at 1-8 in series openers if the score holds up.

That buys him another month on the roster. Almost had two. What's the update on Stassi?

Getz and Grifol with a sigh of relief...but this game isn't yet out of hand, as the Rays' announcers seemingly conceded.

Was Kyle Hendricks a star with the Cubs? Solid big leaguer. Somewhere between him and Maddux. That's a huge range range of outcomes. #4-5 on these White Sox means he's out of the game before he qualifies for a pension.

How many of the members of that 2012 Sox team went on to great success elsewhere? Obviously you had Sale and Q...but who else actually turned out to be good?
-
Pham up, Pillar out
So then there's basically zero point to any sports message board...since it's nearly impossible for anyone to "prove" or validate their credibility, ultimately. Unless they actually work inside the industry. Got it.

Pham up, Pillar out
Let's see back in 2014-15 the evidence that you were forecasting him as a future star lol...why didn't they or anyone else listen to you? You scouted him at Berkeley? You could have sent a resume like WDWF supposedly did to JR every summer and secured yourself an internship. Maybe even a paid one.

But they will force him into RF due to his arm strength. In the end, he will barely be remembered 2-3 years from now. Mena at least has a chance to become a meaningful contributor.

Pham up, Pillar out
This is the very definition of how Hahn put this organization behind the 8 ball. Incrementally. One bad move at a time creating an avalanche of diminished talent on the active roster...and a middling at best farm system whose major source of talent (Cuba) has pretty much completely dried up.

Give one example of a player evaluation that you have EVER been right about...? Yeah, thought so.

Pham up, Pillar out
He chose between McCarthy and Fletcher. Two 26 year olds. At least Jake has held his own as a major leaguer this season.

So why not just let Merkin and Reifert and Boyer run SoxTalk? Sounds like the only way to get some real objectivity around here.

Sure. Sounds very mature.
