Not specific to this season, just in general it seems like the MO is to sign a handful of guys that total up 15-20 million instead of signing that one guy for 15-20 million who will make a difference. For 2024, guys like Stassi, Maldonado, DeJong, Lopez are pretty much sunk costs. The odds of any of them performing well enough to be able to be flipped at the deadline for something have to be incredibly low. Why not spend some of that money on a potential flip candidate instead of a handful of guys who are more likely to be DFA'd than dealt. Especially with the season that's coming.

What I hate about this is that this organization continually goes down the path of a handful of guys that aren't even good instead of going for one guy that is good. Between Stassi, Maldonado, DeJong, and Lopez you're looking at approx. $10 million spend. There is better ways to allocate that money.

For simple math, if you’re selling your car and you would take $5 for it you don’t advertise it for $5. You say $8, and maybe you get $8, maybe you get $7 or $6. You don’t start at $5.

99% of star free agents are going to whoever offers the most money. You think players are lining up to go play in Buffalo, New York??

The A's are already moving to Vegas do you live under a rock?????

The Bears don’t have a QB, you absolutely cannot pass on taking a QB with the #1 pick for the second year in a row.
-
Actually the point was more they’re the same. If I’m building a team I’d rather have a good offense in place to support young developing pitchers as opposed to pitching trying to carry a developing offense.

Yeah but did he fall asleep because he was tipsy or was it because he’s so old??? -
9/10 in runs scored made the playoffs and the 1 that didn’t (Cubs) were eliminated on the last day.

Pretty crazy that if you don't want to spend big money on players, spend it in scouting and development and then you can just cycle through good players and trade them before they get super expensive and you restock the farm and have suitable replacements on the cheap ready to fill the hole that was created. Seems like this would be perfect for a guy like JR.
-
I agree. We can get pitching when we trade Robert in a year or two.
-
This is a total fluke situation that we may never see again. There is probably a small fraction of players who would even entertain signing a massive deal and putting 97% of it a decade down the road.
-
Out of how many possible days, do that too.. or not, I think we all know the results anyways.
-
Its because they know they are going to be bad, even if they don't want to come out and say it, and it looks like the priority right now is to acquire some players we may be able to flip at the deadline. No moves that have been made so far indicate at all they are trying to compete this season.

This is basically what we are looking at for SP to start the year and their FIP last season.. Cease (3.72 FIP) Fedde (?? Unknown) Soroka (6.56 FIP) Kopech (6.46 FIP) Toussaint (4.95 FIP) Scholtens (5.31 FIP) This is bad, doesn't matter if Paul DeJong and Nicky Lopez are behind them. If/When Cease is traded, the rotation is arguably the worst in baseball. The offense last season was 25th in AVG, 30th in OBP, 26th in SLG, and 29th in OPS. The White Sox had a .238 team average and a .675 team OPS. None of those additions you named even meet those figures. Someone else said this in a post and I don't remember where, but it was a great post and it was something like this. Basically, instead of the Sox losing 9-3 they are going to lose 6-3.
-
If Cease is traded, I would say its a guarantee they lose 100 games. Even with Cease, hard to see a scenario where they don't lose 100 games.
-
I was just about to say this. Great, so all of our under performers are going to magically be good now, that’s wishful thinking.
-
Who cares, the contract will never be a bad one for teams that print money.
-
lol Toronto, such a dumb rumor why would he ever go there.

This roster is trash and DeJong, Fede, and Lopez aren’t going to prevent the miserable season that’s coming.
