  1. Yeah, one of your simple versions, but that's a good thing. It's good to switch it up.
  2. Hawk: "And that's how you get yourself a 16,000 square foot house in Scottsdale."
  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 31, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) You know who should really be pissed about KW Jr. playing so much...Jose Martinez. He should be promoted soon or at least by the start of the second half. Jr. should be benched or demoted by then. If this was any other player, Martinez would've supplanted them by now. If Jose Martinez is being held back by KW Jr., then this organization is truly twisted and evil. Well that and Martinez had a .640 OPS in May.
  4. His FIP is 3.49. xFIP is 4.16. Those numbers aren't as pretty as his ERA, but I don't think anyone would complain with either of those ERAs over a full season. Obviously if he finishes with an ERA above 4 this year that means he got pounded pretty good to finish the year, but you know what I mean.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) Viciedo is wasting away. But I'd rather him stay at AAA. He's not going to play in Chicago. Ozzie would NEVER bench Pierre. Never. Wasting away would imply that he's declining in talent. He's still producing.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ May 31, 2011 -> 06:14 PM) Does Trayce lead all Sox minor leaguers in HR's? I don't think I know of anyone with more than his 10. Seems like he's poised for a breakout year power wise, maybe not so much with the cutting down on K's and average... Ian Gac has 14 for the Dash. Thompson's Ks are down a bit, but so are his walks. His power is about the same. I gotta say I'm a little disappointed so far, but he's a guy we need to be patient with. Still just 20.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 31, 2011 -> 01:14 PM) Kloess? Skipped AA to go to Charlotte? They must think its a short-term assignment, no way he deserved that over some of the relievers at B-Ham. Bayne is already back with the Dash. It's probably just a temp thing with Kloess as well.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 31, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) Yeah, doesn't a screwball move the opposite way? Like a backwards slider or curveball? I don't know the mechanics of throwing it, but it's a curveball that rotates the opposite way. If Santiago has a good one, it will allow a lefty like himself to get righties out very effectively. He's basically throwing a right-hander's breaking ball as a lefty.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 30, 2011 -> 11:37 PM) Escobar is proving to be OK with the stick, which is all you can ask of and more. Another homer and a double, leaving him with an OPS over .700 and 16 XBH's. He's got 10 XBH in May. That's actually a good power month. Go figure. Too bad we're set at SS.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ May 30, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) 8 shutout innings of one-hit ball for Santiago. 23-year-old lefty...might be worth keeping an eye on the rest of the year. Yeah he was pretty solid for the Dash. That was just his 2nd start for the Barons. Ryan Buch also took a no-no late into a game, but his line wasn't as pretty. 6.2 IP, 3 K, 5 BB. Ended up leaving the game.
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 30, 2011 -> 05:39 PM) There are three certainties in this uncertain world in which we live: the sun rising in the east, Adam Dunn striking out at least once per start and the Sox not going above slot during the draft. They've gone above slot in the supplemental round before. I'm pretty sure Gio was above slot. I wouldn't be surprised if they go a little above slot without a first rounder.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 30, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) I would love OSU to get Bo Pelini. It would be a match made in heaven. A current scumbag to replace a another scumbag. I like the way you think. Plus that would add some fire to make a conference rivalry for the Big Ten newbies.
  13. Charlotte starts at 5:30 Barons lost 14-5 Ugly game. Barons walked 13. Kuhn and Phegley with hat tricks. Marrero 2-3, 2 BB Dash off Hagerstown @ Intimidators Dexter Carter starting, but he's walking a lot right now.
  14. Mizzou was one strike away from winning the Big 12 tournament, but gave up a 2-out single to tie it and lost on a 2-out walkoff HR in the 10th. They were the No. 8 seed and had a losing record so it's surprising they got that close to the tourney, but man that's harsh. I always look forward to the regionals, but it would have been sweet to have my school return to the tourney for some rooting interest.
  15. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 28, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) His May split looks pretty good compared to his April. .263/.282/.438/.720 Only 9Ks in 80 ABs so at least he's starting to put the ball in play. He's a good contact hitter, but that's not the part of his game that worries me. It's that he's a slap hitter that doesn't walk.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 28, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) Unfortunately he is striking out a lot more in May. 10 K to 11 BB in April compared to 17 BB and 26 K in May. At least his average and walk rates are up. I still probably have the highest hopes for him than most people here. First full year of pro ball and he's in high-A. Probably a good idea to give him a few months to let him settle in. The numbers will do the same.
  17. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:46 PM) i have commented before on my thoughts about Kenny giving up a number one pick for Dunn. Beyond stupid. Then I remember. when Mags left, his agent out maneuvered Kenny so that we did not get a draft pick from Tigers. Or was it two picks? Really? A player that has posted an OPS above .850 nine of his ten pro years and above .880 seven of those isn't worth the 23rd pick? This isn't football or basketball. These picks are less than 50% to make the Majors.
  18. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) Baseball America's 2nd mock is up: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft...11/2611827.html It's only the 1st round obviously. Any supplemental round predictions are pretty much worthless. Yeah the only real value mocks have this year for Sox fans is to get familiar with the names. There's really no way to predict who's going to be there.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 27, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) Trayce Thompson went 2/3, 2B, HR, 4 RBI. Only hitting .229, but has 31 RBI and 10 HR already. He's very hit/miss. I haven't had the time to research it yet, but I'm willing to bet when he HRs he often has multi-hit games.
  20. Tilson didn't impress me in the two games I saw him play. He can play CF with good range and a strong arm, but his bat is pretty far behind for a first day pick. I didn't get to see him run the bases, supposedly his strongest point, so that's probably part of why he didn't wow me.
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 26, 2011 -> 07:28 AM) Brandon Short loves hitting streaks. 26 game last year, and I believe he's at 18 this year. I count 16. Either way, good to see him doing well. He really struggled in April.
  22. Yeah. Dare I say Viciedo looked small? At least next to Flowers and Danks.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 25, 2011 -> 09:19 AM) A player like that will clean up in the MAC. That was my original point. It's a good get for them.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ May 22, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) Eh. I saw him a couple of times and wasn't all that impressed. If he looked like Lebron against high school kids, he wouldn't be going to NIU. He has a bad attitude at times and sometime plays to get his. Very athletic and a nice get for NIU but don't expect miracles. Maybe I shouldn't have used the Lebron reference. I just mean he plays a similar style and has the athleticism to pull it off. He's not a great shooter, but I saw him drop 40+ on a pretty good team this year. Attitude is a possible problem, but I think the reason he's not going to a better school is because of grades. He originally was going to New Mexico, but then said he was going to prep school and now the concern is if he'll qualify for NIU.
