  1. Did we really forget Jason's birthday? Hahaha. Cheers Jason.
  2. Knights lost 12-1 De Aza with the golden sombrero. Anthony Carter shelled in relief. Barons 6:43 Dash lost 11-10 Big day for Ciolli. Mitchell 2-5, 2B, 2 K. Collop rocked. Kannapolis is off.
  3. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Apr 23, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) Rough day for Mitchell: 0-6, 4 Ks I know it's probably just because of the double header, but maybe the 2 IP from Reed is just the beginning of a process of stretching him out to be a starter. One can hope at least. Mitchell salvaged the day (kinda) with a HR. Reed has gone 2 innings a few times this year. I doubt they're stretching him out.
  4. Knights lost 3-1 Milledge with a pair of hits, Flowers with a hat trick. Barons @ Huntsville Axelrod with another strong start. Dash doubleheader Game 1: lost 10-2 Game 2 Addison Reed with a pair of strong innings in his Dash debut. Kannapolis doubleheader Game 1: won 8-7 Game 2 (Buch start)
  5. Winston-Salem and Kannapolis postponed. Charlotte delayed and could be joining them. The Barons are in action though. Mississippi @ Barons Short with a bomb. Griffith starting
  6. Wilkins with his 2nd HR in as many games and Heidenreich with 6 shutout innings. 2-5, 3B, 2 K for Mitchell.
  7. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) Prospects "graduating" is also a lousy excuse for having a poor farm system. Those graduations are replenished in organizations that have a semblance of depth. Yes, but at least the Sox wouldn't be in the bottom three. It's only a minor improvement if you think of it as talent produced.
  8. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Apr 21, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) i hope T R U doesnt see this but, is anyone else not able to sign on to PSN right now? Ah Nevermind... http://ps3.ign.com/articles/116/1163299p1.html I haven't tried it today, but last time they were in the news I did have issues. Guess I'll stick to my offline modes for a few days. Edit: Yeah, it's not working.
  9. Man, Indiana should trade for Ben Gordon. Great D on the last play though, trapping Granger was fantastic.
  10. Knights @ Durham Marquez Mississippi @ Barons Leesman Wilmington @ Dash Santiago hit earth West Virginia @ Intimidators Heidenreich
  11. Tyson Corley and Kyle Shelton moved up to Birmingham to make room for Reed and Jake Oester. Leroy Hunt came off the DL for Kanny and Drew Lee got moved up from extended. Still trying to figure out what happened with the Barons' roster. I believe they're one heavy with those moves.
  12. Barons won 7-4 Kuhn staying hot. Dash lost 5-4 in 12 Martinez 2-3, 2 2B Wilkins' first HR Rienzo 5 IP, 2 R (ER), 7 K, 2 BB, 6 H Kanny won 6-5 Another strong start for Petricka
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 10:33 PM) 2/4 with 2 2B for Mitchell. Yeah, I put this on the FS twitter, but he's had a few good games in a row. Jared Mitchell warming a bit. 5-12, 4 2B, BB, 2 K in last 3 games after a 5-31 start.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) I'd say Borchard. Sweeney had a gorgeous swing but I don't think his upside was ever seen as ridiculously high. Even when Reed was raking he was never profiled as a high upside type guy. In those years he was most often compared to Mark Kotsay. Yeah, Reed isn't in that category. Sweeney was higher upside than Reed and had some gaudy scouting reports. Scouts are more mixed on Thompson, but pure upside yeah I think you have to go back to Borchard. Let's hope he gets there (there being the upside, not Borchard lol).
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) Hopefully his understanding of the game is starting to catch up with his raw talent, that'd be a huge boost to this system, no doubt. Yeah. I can't remember a high upside hitter in the system like him. I like him better than Mitchell. Do we have to go as far back as Borchard for a talent like that? Maybe Sweeney I guess.
  16. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) although it's still early and he only has 50 ab's this season his walk/K per AB look better so far in addition to his growing power output. Absolutely, he's so far away that slow progress is fine. I haven't seen a red flag from him yet. Obviously, he's striking out a ton, but as long as he shows gradual year-to-year improvement he's still one of the best prospects in the system. Last year he showed a big power surge and dropped the K rate a bit. This year he's still showing the power, the K rate is again a bit lower and the walk rate is higher. We're still a month or so away from being able to make a real judgment on his progress this year, but it's encouraging that he is improving in the areas he needs to. Edit: Bomb #2 on the night for Trayce. Love it.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 05:05 PM) Let's just say if the Bulls somehow traded Rose for Paul I wouldn't be that upset. That's not a knock on Rose at all by the way. From an age standpoint that would be dreadful though.
  18. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) 3-3, 2B, 3B, 2 BB for Jose Martinez. Nice game for him. He's not been hitting for a huge amount of power, or walking a huge amount, but he is making a lot of contact. I thought the same thing when I first clicked on his page, but milb.com hasn't updated his stats with today's game. He has 4 walks, 2 strikeouts in 37 AB. That makes his walk rate passable and the contact rate is, as you said, very good. Currently looking at a .162 ISO.
  19. Jose Martinez is killing the Carolina League so far. Let's move him up soon so we can see if he's still a prospect.
  20. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Thompson hit a homer off a legit prospect in Justin Grimm. 1-4, HR, BB, K. Something tells me we'll see a lot of lines like this from Thompson this year.
  21. Knights and Barons postponed. Kinston @ Dash Rienzo Hickory @ Intimidators Petricka
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) Will he be to Rule 5 stage after this year? Wow I never thought about that. He should have another year still because he was signed before he was 18, giving the Sox 5 years of 'evaluation time.' I'm fairly sure he's only on year 4 because the DSL doesn't count, but I'm gonna have to follow up on this. That said, talent or otherwise, I can't imagine a team wanting to hold him on a 25-man roster next year. With the start he's off to now, I could see him landing on the 40-man roster before 2013. At that point he could have AA time or be heading into a AA season so the Sox would probably want to protect him.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 08:04 AM) The crazy part is that he is turning 20 in three days. He is still really young. And showing massive power. It's almost become cliche, but he has always been worth following because of the age.
  24. Knights lost 3-1 De Aza 2-4, K Escobar 1-3, 2B, BB, K Barons lost 2-0 Kuhn 4-4 Zaleski 7 IP, R, 6 K, BB, 4 H Dash were off Kanny won 9-5 Silverio and Gilbert with bombs Upchurch starting again (that makes 6 starters with Reed still in the 'pen)
  25. Knights lost 5-2 Peavy rehab start. Barons lost 6-2 Dash doubleheader: Game 1 won 3-2 Game 2 lost 3-2 Kanny won 8-3 Trayce with a bomb, Shoemaker, Black and Silverio with big days. Buch 8 K, 1 BB.
