Latos still has fluid on knee, might not make opening day
hi8is replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Anyone else find his politician-like way of addressing the question about his health HIGHLY suspect? -
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) The revelation that we're in the market for an OF today..is...a real stunner My wild guess: we get Either on March 23rd.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 06:07 AM) Holy cow! Thanks for the in-depth response, seriously, that's good insight right there and I appreciate it. ptact is the man. He's got a legitimate medical background and worked professionally in the sports PT world if memory serves correct. Helped me out here when I had a boxers fracture. Big shout out to him - great guy to have on this board. Another example of Soxtalk winning. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) this site has many great old time posters, some poster name feather (i think she was an IIU student), nukem, Steff, yansy.... i wonder i Steff is still around. I'll never forget Heather and her infatuation with Ben Davis. Those were good times.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 13, 2016 -> 07:51 AM) i pm some other poster and to tell you the truth, i never, ever thought the sox would have signed latos. i was content with Alfredo Simon or Tim Lincecum. that threw me, getting latos. Hahn set a precedent of patience with the Peavy trade of 2013... He's been really consistent in getting things done on terms closer to his own than that of the other party at the table. It's something I immediately recognized then and see as a common thread. 100% the right way to go. Edit: it's just not nearly as "fun" as the KW crazy trader style for us fans in hot stove times.

Not sure where I heard about Soxtalk first but my hazy memory seems to recall it like this: I was posting on WSI... They were being their usual tyrant like selves... A poster there sent me a PM saying, "these guys are douche bags and you're cool. Come join Soxtalk, where douche bags aren't welcome." That was likely Jason. This site is the bees knees... I've met up with posters at games ( when the Sox play the Angles here in California ), had posters hook me up whenever I'm in Chicago, been banned for posting my loco muses of poop, and over all have had a wonderfully beautimous time. Long live Soxtalk!

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 07:39 AM) Isn't Lawrie just here for one year? Anderson would play 2B in 2017. I don't think he'll be good enough defensively as a SS. Two, I believe.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 10:04 PM) ...and I am curious how the board was during the 05 season. I for one was in my bedroom with plastic sheeting draping walls and bottles of champagne spraying everywhere. I live in a small California town with no other die hard Sox fans. So that happened and then in a drunken stooper, I wrote about it here.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 06:44 PM) Refresh a couple times and it'll eventually come up. Ah. Thanks, it worked and thus... My reading of regurgitation is complete. That article was like when you throw up in your mouth and then swallow it, for whatever reason.

QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 01:29 PM) Question for some on this board. What is up with this WAR fascination when determining if the guy is a good fit or not? I see alot of post where this guy is a 2 WAR and this guy is a 3 WAR. I'm not against any metrics at all and teams should try to use everything at their disposal to win games but WAR is the last thing i look at when determining if i want the player on my team. I don't need the WAR number of CESPEDAS, GORDON or UPTON to know that i wanted them on the Sox. I have no idea what is was not should i care. All i know that i wanted any of them with Gordon and Upton being most desirable because of the OBP. Some teams probably wanted Cespedas because they need the power. To each there own. Do most here look at war for a determination on what fits the Sox best? To me it's a non factor but maybe I'm in the minority. Thanx At this stage of rounding out a team preparing for the year - I find using historical WAR and projected WAR useful when evaluating the probability of upgrading from player X to player Y for position Z.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Judging by his twitter account, Desmond is not in Chicago taking a physical....he's out fishing today Jesus Christ, send Ian to Twitter Anonymous for some 12 step recovery.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 12:27 PM) If they are committed to giving up the draft pick, I'd rather have Desmond than Fowler. Desmond is more likely to be a 3 WAR SS than Fowler is to be a 2-3 WAR OF in my opinion. Sox could still add a different OF via trade as well. They would have a pretty powerful infield with Frazier/Desmond/Lawrie/Abreu Salidino is a projected 2 WAR player. Avi is projected at 0. Even if Desmond has a 3 WAR 2016, that's a net gain of 1. If Fowler has even a 2 WAR year, that's twice the improvement than Desmond offers in this projection. Just food for thought, gang. Edit: Give me Desmond and Austin Jackson... Then you're talking.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 08:10 AM) He looks good in a Sox uni Yea - Bobby Jenks looks pretty badass after losing all that weight. Looks younger in this picture too. Hum.

This is dope... Whoever does the new photoshop work at mlbtr is really talented.
-
I'd also have to argue raBBit, that Rodon will be light years better than Samarjaza and his MLB worst perfs...
-
The question now is... What will his number be. Rodon is 55 and well... 35... Yea.
-
Anyone know his ground ball perfs? Off to look that type of info up... Edit: 43% last year, which is right in line with his career number.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 11:24 AM) There is no such thing as low risk / high reward. Please stop it. You can say it is a low-risk signing, because it is. It's only 1/$3M. But the concept is high risk / high reward or low risk / low reward, because risk isn't about what happened in the end. It's about the chances of something happening in the future. If there is a high chance of a high reward, that person isn't signing for $3M. It is also about the LIKELY reward, since obviously ANY investment could go big or go bad. Same in baseball as any other investment. So this is low risk / low reward. And that's fine. Now go get a bloody right fielder. Bah - you know what the OP meant. There is a potential in signings for a low amount with a high value produced. IE: Nelson Cruz with Baltimore for 1 yr / 8 M = 36 home runs and 91 RBI ( 3.7 WAR )
-
Good. Like others stated, I'm shocked he signed for this low. Finally some fruit to the waiting game. Hopeful still that other fruit will be borne in the shape of an outfielder.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 8, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) So my dad, die hard Dodger fan, says there has been a lot of talk in LA about Sox being aggressively interested in Puig. No inside sources, just what people on the radio are speculating. Evidently Dodgers are trying to push Ethier. But long story short, it is getting coverage in LA media as well (with there reports being the Sox aren't offering the front line pitching the Dodgers want...which I presume means Hahn is trying to get a deal sold around prospects). That probably means you need to get a 3rd team in and have the Sox give those spects to the third team with the Dodgers getting a front line pitcher. Just shows that Hanh isn't leaving any stones unturned. What - if anything - materializes will be the story.

Baseball life... Could it please be April already? Real life... Could it please be 1990 again so I could purchase google.com, sex.com, toys.com, and money.com - among other domains?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 3, 2016 -> 03:38 PM) They can't keep Sanchez, C, Garcia, Sands, and Shuck. They keep 4 bench players and go with 12 pitchers. Can we keep poop on the bench?
