QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) I presume it because that's how I got into baseball along with my friends. Can't tell you how much fun we had calling our games using every Hawkism in the book. He's similar to Dick Vitale. I may not enjoy them as much now but I think they are important in their respective positions to hopefully draw in a new audience. I agree with you. He is a draw for kids because he is a loud cheering fan and they want to cheer and get excited with him. Kids don't care about advanced statistics and actual analysis. They are going to scream and yell at good at bad plays, like Hawk. You think a 10 year old kid is rolling his eyes when Hawk says the Sox are more talented than the Royals, or that Carlos Sanchez is going to be a "real good baseball player for a long time". No. Those kids have no idea how laughably wrong he is. The kids are being grossly misinformed, absolutely, but they are being entertained and having fun.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) They have been extra pissy since they lost the White Sox broadcast. No big surprise as their entire schtick is this kind of broadcasting. I can't wait for the Sox to move so I can take them off of my dial. I have noticed that on their twitter account, they post updates on the Cubs games as they progress, but don't bother tweeting about during Sox games. I've wondered if that are being whiny about losing the Sox broadcasts and are choosing to ignore them more.

Matt Davidson named Best Defensive 3B
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to GGajewski18's topic in FutureSox Board
Would we take the kind of numbers from Sanchez in AAA that we are getting from Sanchez? If Davidson truly is a really good defensive 3B all the sudden, and that's all Sanchez is (defense), then wouldn't you prefer Sanchez to be able to drop 20-25 HR a season while playing superb defense? I think the problem is that we are all trained to think of Sanchez as a defense first guy, and any offense is a plus. But maybe we should be seeing Davidson the same way now. -
We all can agree that wins for pitchers are useless. Why are we suddenly putting value on wins for catchers, who have even less influence on a game?

Man, I had no idea that Tim Anderson was over .300 on the year. After today, he is hitting .307 with 40!! steals. He only had 10 steals last season... The dude still has no idea how to draw a walk though. Only 19 on the year.

So I've got a big bug with Windows 10 right now. It may not be from Windows 10, it may be from the backup utility I downloaded right before I upgraded to 10 as a "just in case" option to revert back to my Windows 7 Ultimate. Every time I right click on something that isn't a program, the system hangs and "Windows Explorer" crashes. I've watched many Youtube videos, downloaded ShellExView and disabled a couple dozen different things, I've deleted some registry values that people have said to delete, I've downloaded some software to fix it. I can't f***ing solve this and it's a problem. I'm running a scan right now on my computer via a Windows 10 message board topic. A Windows rep replied to a guy having a similar issue and was told to run this scan in the cmd prompt and then restart the computer. If that fails, I'm just going to revert back to Windows 7 and throw a bird up to Windows 10. It's a shame because I really like the aesthetics.

I would totally trade Anderson straight up for Bruce, but I've also wanted Bruce ever since he had a bad 2014. I wanted to buy low on him because I knew he would revert back to his old self, and whallah, highest BB-rate and lowest K-rate of his career. Also on pace for 25+ HR, 90 RBI, about average defense. Has 2+ years left on his deal. I'd take Bruce for sure.

QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:51 PM) Former White Sox draft pick, David Holmberg made a quality start for Cincy today. I didn't know he had been called up. 6IP, 5H, 2ER, 3BB, 4K against Pit. Today is the 5 year anniversary of the Sox inexplicably throwing in Holmberg on the Hudson-Edwin Jackson deal. I know this because Facebook "reminded" me of how outraged I was over the deal at the time.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) That's still getting the Jays number 1 prospect + for 2 months of Price. A pretty good haul imo. Yeah, I think they are getting a pretty damn good return for a rental player.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:50 AM) Anyone know if it would be worth upgrading 6 year old windows 7 laptops? Like would they get even slower? That's exactly what I did. This laptop was bought in summer of 2009. I wouldn't say it's any slower on Win 10 vs. Win 7. It may even be slightly faster, but I haven't noticed much change either way in terms of speed.

Anyone else download Windows 10 yet? Mine just finished installing a few minutes ago. Looks pretty slick.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) Am I the only one who wants the sox to stand pat? The only significant piece I am in favor of moving is Samardzija, because he is an expiring asset. I don't want to add a major leaguer if it means trading one of our top prospects. This season has been too horrendous prior to July for me to think this is sustainable. We are exciting, but are also beating up on 2 horrible teams. If you can swing a 3-team trade for a major leaguer and all we lose is Samardzija and some mid level minor leaguers, then fine. -
Gomez is a f*** stick. I would rather not have to root for him.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:24 PM) That's brutal for us. What are you expecting to get for a 2 month rental? This team is looking to add to the current club, not take a couple A-ball players in return for Samardzija. We could use a solid lefty catcher. I think it's pretty fair, especially when you consider he plays half his games in the pitcher's haven in Oakland. His avg is better at home, but he has 10 HR away vs. 4 HR at home. He could be a 15+ HR bat for the Sox just in a strict platoon.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) So we are going to trade Shark for a guy in his first breakout season at 30? I realize we need catching but I don't know that this gets me that excited. He was very good in half a season last year. His 162-game average WAR in Oakland is 3.1. He is on pace for higher than that this season. For comparison sake, Flowers has a -0.2 WAR this year. Also, Vogt is a lefty. He could be an even more impressive platoon with Soto as Vogt crushes rights to a 148 wRC+ and hitting .292 with 13 HR. Soto against lefties is hitting .323 with a wRC+ of 162. You'd be exploiting both heavy splits in their platoon perfectly.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) I think there is a pretty good chance Kang is better than any 2B/3B we have in our system. Kang is currently hitting .289 with 6 HR, 32 RBI and walking about 7% of the time. 127 wRC+ and a 2.2 WAR. He costs the Pirates $4M this year (with posting fee).
-
I would love to get Lucroy, but I don't want to have to give up prospects along with Shark to make a 3-team trade work. Basically my thinking is to move Shark (expendable if Erik Johnson has really found it) to fill gaps elsewhere, which means a 3-team trade has to happen.
-
Check this 3 team trade out.... Sox-Dodgers-A's. Sox acquire C Stephen Vogt (lefty to pair with Soto). Dodgers acquire Jeff Samardzija Athletics acquire prospects from Dodgers. So for the Sox, it's a swap of Shark for Vogt.
-
This really tempers my excitement about dealing with the Jays. Reid-Foley and Pentecost are still there, but would the Jays really unload that many good prospects in the same week? The smaller their supply, the less likely they would be to agree to overpay, which is what it may take to pry Shark on a surging Sox club.

Can't overturn that one.
