Sox Sign Dioner Navarro
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Kudos, I like this platoon. The upside is pretty high IMO. Downside is that Avila is toast but in that scenario you hope Navarro can take over full time. Doesn't seem the ORG valued the pitch framing metric as much as some of our posters here. FWIW I have no idea who is right but it is one data point that at least the Sox perhaps don't consider it that important. Hahn values pitch framing. It's one of the main reasons why he's chased Jason Castro, Miguel Montero, and Yasmani Grandal. He decided that pitch framing doesn't make up for being horrible offensively and allowing 15 passed balls however.

Sox Sign Dioner Navarro
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) Have you looked at his stats? He played in 54 games and hit as badly as Avila did. They both did draw some walks though, improving the catcher spot in ability to take a walk I guess. Greg, Navarro had an .894 OPS vs LHP last season. Should be a decent platoon. It's definitely not worse.

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:49 AM) Here's MLB.com top 50 board too for the 2016 Draft http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016/?list=draft Lots of pitchers and OF. Watching Dalbec and Okey's years will be interesting. That Puerto Rican SS is very intriguing to me too. Should be fun with 3 pretty valuable picks on the first night.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:54 AM) And Miller is the pass catching TE who has pretty much taken away Bennetts targets The Bears will not go into next season with Zach Miller and Khari Lee as their top 2 TE's. I think they'll sign a TE in free agency (they aren't expensive) and re-sign Miller. Khari is a TE3. Which is fine.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:06 AM) Bears arent gonna be drafting or signing a TE when they traded a 6th rounder for Khari Lee. Khari Lee is strictly a blocking TE though.

Sox Sign Dioner Navarro
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:54 AM) I just dont believe in this pitch framing stat being a good evaluation tool for catchers. Top tier SP's are going to skew that stat in favor of whoever their catcher is. Not true. I just read Big Data Baseball by Travis Sawchik. It details the Pirates use of it. Cervelli/Martin definitely made a difference in this area with the Charlie Morton's and Jeff Locke's of the world. It might be overrated but it is a real thing that's useful.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:31 AM) Sounds like Martellus Bennett will be gone after this season. I think they can get a 6th or 7th rounder for him in the offseason. If not, they'll just cut him and move on. Some decent free agent TE's available.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 09:23 PM) Simmons sucked tonight LOL. He's absolutely worth tanking for. If you get the #1 pick this year, the fortunes of your franchise change instantly. For as horrible and controversial as Philly has been, if they land the #1 pick, it will have all been worth it.

Sox Sign Dioner Navarro
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:42 AM) Flowers pitch framing was elite. Navarro's supposedly poor. Flowers did have a tough year behind the plate, Navarro is supposed to be decent behind the plate. This could be a good case study on the importance of pitch framing. Pitchers liked throwing to Flowers, but supposedly they like throwing to Navarro as well. All in all, it isn't an earth shattering upgrade, but perhaps change is good. When you are the Pirates, it is imperative. Russell Martin was a huge reason for their success and Cervelli jumped right in. It's very important for those guys to "steal" strikes and rehab pitchers in the process. It's important for the Sox too but maybe a little less important when you have Sale, Q, and Rodon throwing.

Hahn says another catcher is ready to be added.
Is there any way that it's Mike Zunino? Seattle has Iannetta and Clevenger...

Pedro Alvarez non-tendered
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) Not sure who but some AL team will give that LF handed power a shot. Baltimore might be a good fit. I think I'd rather have Carter or Alvarez than LaRoche. Those 2 strikeout a ton but at least I know they'll hit bombs.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) I'm a bit confused here. The first one should have been in green. The comments section had a guy that was talking about fWAR being useless. I thought that was funny. Then I stated that I prefer fWAR when comparing pitchers. My bad.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) I don't pay much attention to it myself. I'm mainly laughing because the Samardzija supporters are arguing on his behalf saying the Sox defense was bad, which it was and is true. But the Sox defense had nothing to do with the 29 cruise missiles launched off the bats of opposing hitters, that's on Samardzija. But hey, he tweaked his mechanics and is all good now. I think fWAR for pitchers is far more useful but that's me I guess.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 11:54 AM) What team would trade for Manziel? He is trouble off the field and pretty awful on the field. I think the Browns should just admit that they made a typical Browns move in drafting him and just cut him. Browns will most likely do the wrong thing. Jerry Jones would absolutely give them a mid-late round pick for him.

Coaching search at Mizzou is weird. I have a buddy that coaches there. He said that Barry Odom hasn't accepted the Memphis job yet which makes him think he's in line for the Mizzou job. Sonny Dykes interviewed and has a history with the AD. My buddy says that the name he keeps hearing behind the scenes though is Dino Babers. Should be interesting to see what happens.
