  1. What are they challenging? Potential home run? Stuck watching Paw Patrol with the kid.
  2. The problem is if there ever was a time to raise the payroll significantly, it was during last year's free agency and ownership decided not to. Why would they decide to spend big now? And even if they do, it's hard to imagine them outbidding all other teams for the few impact free agents. Unfortunately, I fully expect more half-assing, with one "big" move and then lots of dumpster diving.
  3. I want to see a entirely new coaching staff. I love what Cooper has accomplished here, but I think it's a time for a change at pitching coach too. I'm certain this allies to him, but guys can become complacent over time. I want our new manager to be able to put together his own staff from scratch.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 6, 2016 -> 01:48 PM) Don't go crazy on him yet. It is rookie ball where he should dominate. It's not just about him dominating, it's also the fact he's barely walking anyone. Him being in rookie ball shouldn't take anything away from that.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 06:54 AM) Gammons just said Moncada, Benitendi, Devers and Kopech were not available for Sale. LMAO, seriously, go f*** yourself Boston. I hope you flame out QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 5, 2016 -> 07:04 AM) Then they'll never get him nor Quintana. f*** em. Lol...directly conflicts with what White Sox Dave said was offered for Quintana. Not sure I have that much faith in Dave, but you can't really trust Gammons either when it comes to the Red Sox. Whatever, I can't wait for them to flame out in the playoffs and realize they should have added a legit TOR arm.
  6. Watch Narcos, which might be the best Netflix original ever. The story follows the rise of Pablo Escobar and the DEA agents trying to bring him down. It ranks right up there with House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, & Stranger Things. If you have Starz, then definitely watch The Missing. It's about couple whose son goes missing while vacationing in France and their search for answers. While tonally different, it's a limited series and is structured a bit like True Detective in terms of storytelling. Easily one of the best shows I've seen in a while. While not a newer show, I'll throw the one I'm watching right now which is Band of Brothers. I just watched the first three episodes and it's incredible. Somewhat similar feel to Saving Private Ryan, but as a 10 hour miniseries it can go into much more depth in terms characters and storytelling. And it's crazy how many familiar actors are in it. Great series so far.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 4, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) Sorry, but no one is tuning in to see Sale pitch on a last place team now. Sale being with the Sox does nothing to improve the contract value of the team with the lowest ratings of any team in the league. Where do you see us having the lowest rating?
  8. Who gives a flying f*** if fans can "handle" a rebuild, if it's the right strategy then go for it. Only a horrible GM would accept mediocrity to appease his fans' short term interests.
  9. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I kind of liked BvS. It definitely wasn't great by any means, but I thought the overall reviews were unfairly harsh. Now, the animated Batman movies are actually really good. Have watched four of them over the past week. I believe several of these are on Comcast On Demand right now if you have some of the premium channels. The Dark Knight Returns, Under the Red Hood, & Assault on Arkham all are worth watching, especially if you have never read any of the comics. Looking forward to renting the The Killing Joke this weekend despite somewhat poor reviews.
  10. I really wish the Sox had found a way to move Shields and Lawrie or Frazier at the deadline. Ranaudo & Saladino deserve looks and they could have gotton two months of regular playing time had we just cleared spots for them. For a organization completely devoid of young, major league ready talent, here's two guys that will essentially rot in AAA and our bench. Neither are close to sure things by any means, but they would have been a lot more fun to watch than the veterans in their place.
  11. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 08:30 PM) Shields' peripherals are awful. He's Latos with much better luck. They should dump him and save the $22 million if they can. I think Robertson could be moved even if claimed and Morneau should clear and be moved as well. Could see some action this month. Why would Morneau clear? He's making a $1M. Anyone interested in him would happily pay his measily salary and simply claim him.
  12. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:56 PM) According to Levine, Sox were asking for one top 5 prospect and 2 more prospects for Shields. Now obviously there's posturing there, but that tells me they were looking for at least something significant back, rather than taking advantage of some extreme luck to try and extricate themselves from an awful trade Like I said in multiple threads, this front office simply doesn't know how to sell.
  13. What happened to Tilson and how bad did it look?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:47 PM) Really a shame they didn't move Shields and take advantage of his run of fluky starts Especially when you have Ranaudo down in AAA pitching pretty well. Tonight he's already gone 6 innings with 0 ER's, 5 hits, 4 K's, & 0 BB's. He's obviously far from a sure thing, but it would have been nice to give him a two month tryout to see if we have something in a lost season.
  15. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:34 PM) Maybe it will help you that it appears Tilson has plateaued. He singled in his first at bat and grounded out in his second. His batting average dropped 500 points Are you trolling me or something? Why in the world would this help me?
  16. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 05:06 PM) Please look good Tilson, please look good Lol...I love that the Cardinals' 12th rated prospect is now our savior. The sad part is there isn't much else to get excited about. This team is painful to watch outside of a handful of players.
  17. This is very simple. All you have to do is look around the league and see how many contenders have top farm systems. Just off the top of my head, you've got the Red Sox, Indians, Rangers, Astros, Dodgers, Cubs, & Washington. All quality teams with the means to have sustainable success. On the other hand, you have the White Sox, a team currently a below .500, with a bottom five farm system and several key players hitting free agency after next season. How in the world do we expect to compete against those teams given our current situation? Sure, we can technically "go for it" next year and hope that we can fill all our holes, that everyone stays healthy, that guys coming off poor seasons rebound, and that nobody regresses. Is that likely? Hell no it's not, but what if it works? Best case scenario, we get one whole year of contention before we either have to commit to our free agents (a risky proposition) or be back to square one with multiple holes to fill and minimal minor league reinforcements to fill them. The point I'm trying to make is we will never have sustainable success if we keep doing this re-tooling nonsense. The only hope is to rebuild the system from the ground up, develop a nice major league core, and build a consistent pipeline of talent. That requires blowing this team the f*** up and going through a painful rebuilding process. The good news for us is that we have several valuable assets that can greatly accelerate that process if moved. The time is now to start on this path. Waiting another year is far too risky. If Sale or Quintana were to get injured, then our organization is completely f***ed. It's 100% not worth taking that risk on what is essentially a hail marry attempt at competing. So let's stop f***ing around and do the right thing for once and build a team the right way.
  18. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) I hope they stretch him as a starter for next season...Do you guys think it's more likely that happens or is he our closer of the future? If we blow up the major league team this offseason, I'd love to see him start 2017 in AA as a starter.
  19. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:22 AM) [/b] Benintendi being recalled. You were right, still an absurd rush job IMO.
  20. I've been sick to my stomach all afternoon over this. I understand the underlying logic in holding onto Sale & Quintana until the offseason, although I question which non-contenders will actually be part of this so-called derby. To me, there are only so many teams that can afford these guys and most of them were in the playoff hunt anyways. Having said that, major leaguers could be in play this fall and so could 2016 draft picks. Perhaps a few more teams will enter the fray, but I don't expect a ton more, even with a poor free agent market. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on Sale & Quintana for now. What really pisses me off are all the other guys they could have dealt. Yes, we don't know what was offered, but it's quite amazing to me that we only made one trade and it was for a local kid with ties to our GM's high school. Tilson is a legit prospect, but I can't help but think this is another case of our front office trying to get their "guy" who fills a specific need and missing out on a potentially greater return. And I find it incredibly hard to believe no one offered anything of value for Melky or Robertson. Relievers & OFs were going left and right for solid returns. The fact we couldn't make any deals with out guys strongly suggests our demands were unrealistic or we were simply late to the party. Either way, this deadline only increased my fears that Hahn & KW don't know how to sell. The worst part of this all is the complete lack of direction. We still don't know if this team is going to rebuild or retool or most likely do a half-ass job in between. The lack of moves has me greatly concerned there is still no long term plan. Obviously we'll know more this fall/winter, but I would have loved to seen some signs that a rebuilding was coming. Instead, we get to spend the next five months worrying whether or no the front office will do the right thing. I'm getting to the point where following this team has become unenjoyable due to the utter incompetence of our front office and ownership group. Again, I hope they prove me wrong and blow this mess up during the offseason, but with the lack of direction and accountability for years & years I have no reason to be optimistic at the moment.
  21. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) Why even trade Zach Duke? This organization sucks. I'm done until the offseason. Because we were able to plug a major hole with superstar prospect Tilson!
  22. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) Levine says confirmed No moves for the Sox f*** our pathetic front office. What a bunch of assholes.
  23. Matt Moore dealt, but Shields & Gonzalez remain at the moment.
  24. Yankees dealt Nova too. Cashman straight up murdered our front office this deadline.
  25. Has anyone confirmed yet that we made no deals? I know some deals are announced late. And what's this bonus time stuff flavum was talking about?
