2019 Trade Deadline Predictions
Chicago White Sox replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No I don’t...I just find your take to be insulting, ignorant, & contradicting. And in regards to Bummer being a “dime a dozen” arm just flat out wrong. The kid was going to be a key piece in a trade for Joc Pederson and has only gotten better this season. Young, controllable left-handed relievers with plus stuff are typically worth quite a bit. The only thing holding back Bumner’s value potentially is a lack of track record. -

Austin Meadows is currently playing RF for them and I’m not sure they’re going to uproot him for Jesus Sanchez despite how talented he is. And the proposal was for Bummer not Colome. An analytics savvy organization that also has to be cost conscious may place a high value on him. -

I’m surprised you don’t fear the team jet going down, because that’s the only part of Murphy’s Law you’re missing. -

Greinke just seems like such a White Sox move IMO. I’m not sure I would like that trade either (mostly because of his age, velocity drop, & personality concerns), but I could totally see the Sox adding him if they were to get enough cash. -

And please flame away, as I fully expect to be ridiculed for these predictions! -
Alright, with the trade deadline just over two weeks away, I figured it’s time for an official “predictions” thread. While it’s always cool to guess something right, both realistic and crazy predictions are welcome here. Here are my official predictions: LHP Aaron Bummer to the Rays for RF Jesus Sanchez & PTBNL RHP Alex Colome & cash to the Braves for LHP Luis Gohara OF Blake Rutherford to the Diamondbacks for RHP Zack Greinke & cash

Jesus fucking Christ...you are a fucking joke man. -
Literally just posted this a second before reading your post.

I think it’s pretty clear Greg cloned himself and vilehoopstar was the outcome.
-
Thank god you are not our GM.

The rumors were (partially) true: Collins to AAA

The guy who selected Fulmer is no longer running our drafts and hard to blame them for Burger’s fluky injury. -
Robert already has $25M in his pocket, my guess is he’s not eager to agree to an extension anytime soon.
-
But an AZL team is vastly different than any other affiliate as they are strictly developmental vs. also serving an entertainment function. I think the cost would be insignificant and I think it’s pretty ridiculous we haven’t looked into adding another club given the amount of LatAm & HS guys we have in place now.
-
We’re talking about adding another AZL team, not a full season affiliate. The cost wouldn’t even remotely comparable.
-
Oh, I’m skeptical too. Just saying getting a guy like May warrants blowing up the bullpen because it allows us to allocate more financial resources to the bullpen.
-
I agree, but let’s say you can get May for Colome & Bummer. Add one quality free agent starter (say Wheeler as an example) and suddenly you have a rotation of Giolito, Wheeler, Cease, Kopech, & May. That is a cheap (like $20M next year), incredibly talented rotation that sets you up for years to come. Plus you have Rodon coming back to fill in for one of the young guys in the second half and Dane Dunning to eventually factor in the mix as needed. At that point, you can easily move Lopez to the bullpen and try him in a setup role. Fry is still around and I still believe he can be a damn good LH reliever. Herrera has been complete garbage this year, but I still believe he’s not 100% yet and I’m ok gambling on him being an effective middle reliever next year. We’d have to add two high end relievers via free agency and probably at least one lesser guy to fill a role until one of our younger guys is ready, but I think it’s definitely doable.
-
God you’re become fucking Greg with these hot takes. You’re honestly telling me that trading some combo of Dunning, Walker, Sheets, Basabe, Rutherford, Adolfo, & Stiever would get us “nothing useful”?
-
Fry’s value is suppressed, just don’t see them moving him right now.
-
Farm system rankings should have no bearing whatsoever on our decision making. We should make trades that improve our chances to win both next year and into the future.
-
What exactly happened? Gameday just says throwing error on a fielder’s choice.
