I believe, in Hahn's mind, Kelley is untouchable as well. They just went overslot on him for $3 million. Further, that proposed trade is better than what the Padres had to give up for some of their recent acquisitions..

I know you have to give up value to get value, but I do not want them to give up Kelley. He's going to be a beast, give up quantity over quality like the Padres................

I could not agree more with this statement. Some of been critical of my comments, which is fun and fair, for articulating this point, not as succinctly. I also must admit that I am an addict, I would not want to know how many times I have visited this thread over the last month!! Starting for some news...............

Interesting, but being passive does not seem to be the way to go here when an offer has been out there a while but we will see. No need to debate it but we could replace Beane with other names.

I hear you but in negotiations, one looks week if a proposal is floated with no timetable for response. At some point his interest in Hahn’s offer has to be commented on. Billy Beane would never let this happen. But, we live in glass houses on this because they are not bound to transparency AND it’s not like hundreds of other free agents are signing right now that leaves us without alternatives. Lots of babble from my end, just want some moves to break the January monotony.

Good post. Maybe I should have said that the precedent is there to get young players extensions early if they perform to entice them to sign now.

I would bet that the Sox have quietly discussed an expedient effort toward a long term extension like with some of the others.

In all of the trade talk, especially speculation with the Rays on Snell, insiders claim that Vaughn does not have much trade value. It was repeated last night on Garfield/CSN Winter Meetings preview. Maybe because of position. Maybe I just am making a misjudgment!!
