I was told it was the best they could get because no one would splurge for one of the most durable pitchers in baseball that would finish 4th in Cy Young voting. Sammy Zavala better learn to hit over the Mendoza line or this trade is catastrophic.

I know it's a wild year because I used to be able to ID everyone in spring training and I don't recognize anyone but Ellard in this post.

Re: Sale, I don't think it's a coincidence that the Red Sox put him out there with no restraints and he suddenly blew out. It got them a World Series and I'm sure Sale thought he could handle it, but they may have been able to win more.

If we're going as far as including Dave Wells, then you should give the Sox their flowers for having an insane run of health from 2001-2016.

Man, my newsroom just went through it's third round of layoffs (fortunately, my department was spared) in a little over a year. That's with a union fighting every step of the way Back when I got laid off (the first time) in 2018, it was jokingly seen as a right of passage in the industry. Happened again in 2020 (extreme circumstances, to be fair). You made the right decision.

Even if it's later than desired, he at least seems to learn from his mistakes (relative to other Chicago GMs)

But the Sox actually have a really good road gray.

Jason, fwiw The Athletic's proposal is just the #41 pick.

The highest running back they've taken since Forte was Montgomery in the third round in 2019. If they pass on Jeanty, what are the odds that Hampton, Judkins or Johnson drop to their second rounders? I'm guessing low on Hampton, maybe on Judkins, likely on Johnson.

@bmags how do we feel about Membou

I've very bluntly stated I don't like Fletcher as a player multiple times. Not a fan of DeLoach either. I've liked Colas. But also, I stated it a few posts down, so, I did name the names that you wanted named. They're all ages 27, 26 and 26 respectively. Not spring chickens in baseball years, but younger than Slater, under team control and they are at the point of their careers where they need MLB at-bats. They've all played in the majors for extended periods at this point and had their fill of AAA. They're the same age range of Stone Garrett and James Outman a few years ago when you were pounding the table for the Sox to acquire either of them, so I'm not sure why you want them blocked by Austin Slater, Mike Tauchman and company.

But in all seriousness, from Brad Biggs:

Chef Poles cooking. (Who is this guy?)

Thuney is a cap space casualty after the Smith tag.
-
That was fast. BJ and Poles must really like Ashton Jeanty

I hope Ishbia (or any new owner) can bring a new training staff in. Also: Ayo, Giddey, Lonzo, Vuc, Smith and Pat out tonight against the Cavs. This one is gonna be brutal. Edit: Smith isn't out. Bulls won't be stopped.

What is the soil quality in hell?
-
Says man who has lost rounds 1-1000, currently laying on the mat and begging the ref to call a tie.
-
Yeah yeah yeah, we get it, soil quality and parking lots.

Black and white version of the '83 jersey looks fine, but it also looks like it took someone 20 minutes to design.

Three true outcomes: DFA, retirement, AAAA fodder

I'm gonna miss Luis Robert.
