With the expanded rosters, I wouldn't be surprised to see both. Plus they did say Grandal would see more time at DH this year.

Michael Conforto: His POV and the Wait

Isn't that essentially the same thing? I think at the very least any team giving him an opt out would want it after year 2. -

No one is gonna sign him for 1 yr and lose a pick. -

MLB pipeline has him as a top 30 guy, his FB was 94-98, and his slider is graded as a 60 pitch coming in at 88-91. He’s definitely reworked some stuff since the pandemic started. -

It's the same process as when a guy is DFA'd. The other team claims him, and they can try to sneak him though waivers too if they wish. -

Yes. You're trying to win a championship. They don't have time to stick a rookie (who is the farthest thing from a sure thing) in RF and see how he performs. We're not talking about a Robert or Madrigal or Kopeck level prospect here. Plus taking AB's away from Vaughn or Sheets for a unproven commodity is criminal. I would be surprised if someone claimed him anyways. -

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
CWSpalehoseCWS replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox continue to come off to me as a team that isn’t capable whenever they have to compete with other teams. They only excel when they jump the market and set it (see Grandal). We know they were taken aback pre-lockout with how quickly the market moved, and Hahn always was playing catch-up. Probably why they sign so many relievers, seems to be the only market that they get out in front of compared to other teams. -

Conforto can’t even get into their country. I doubt he’s an option. -
I was rooting for this guy the minute they signed him last year. So glad they brought him back. This is the exact type of arm that can come out of nowhere for a season or two.

Pretty sure you're 100% correct. -

I don't think anyone will. I feel like people haven't really looked at his minor league career and noticed the 30%+ strikeout rate. He isn't ready for MLB action. I honestly think he's be lucky to hit over .200 right now, if ever. -

Was wondering the same thing. As long as he doesn’t end up on the Twins. -

I wouldn’t mind the Sox taking a flyer on Isan Diaz. -

I really thought the Sox were going to add Joc. Would have made much more sense to have a part-time RF that could also DH and play LF as Vaughn learned RF. They are playing with fire going into the season without a legitimate outfielder. We’ve seen the Engel/Leury show before. -

Essentially in the middle of talking, one of the guys gets a text and says it is an insider trade that hasn't made its way to twitter. He describes it as a "multi-layered" trade, doesn't want to name teams, and guesses it is a possible "1 of 2 trades." His hint is "big contract" and he doesn't want to say more because he doesn't want to ruin anything. The other guy asks if it involves the Cubs or White Sox, and there is an awkward pause and some laughing, with "White Sox, potentially" finally being admitted. Who knows. -

All I can think about is that scene from Moneyball when they are discussing teaching Hattenberg 1B. -

Hahn should be fired. Yes, fired. Two first basemen and a DH with zero experience in RF on a team with championship expectations. Pitiful. -
I love this. Really wish the Sox would have targeted a legitimate backup catcher though.

I'm sure it has to some extent, but the same can be said for every team. I'm sure there are just as many players that have cities they refuse to move too, guys that don't want to play out of position, etc. -

You actually are saying that the Sox are passing along fake information to appease 6,881 members of Sox Talk? -

Been thinking about it all night. If you take the low-end of the offer, 72/4=18 (obviously this number might actually be lower for 2022 based on how contracts generally appreciate in value). Then take that average and start subtracting the dollar amounts from the post-lockout additions, 18-(7+3+5.5)=2.5 This fits with the earlier narrative some people were pushing around that the Sox are tapped out. Of course, if you move Kimbrel, that number could increase dramatically depending on how much the Sox can save. Maybe there is still a chance they are able to get him, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. I also don't think this FO is that smart to be able to pull off anything that requires multiple steps or moving parts.
