  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 02:18 AM) Remember how Northeastern Australia is already under water? H. Christ. Described as the strongest cyclone ever to hit Australia. Yep, it's a Category 5, as bad as Hurricane Katrina. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/special-r...l-1225998348468 Saw a picture today, this cyclone would cover 2/3'rds of the USA's mainland if it was over there, just massive.

    Soxtalk Awards

Message Bird? Funniest post of the year contender right there.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 10:21 PM) I was interested to see if this version as better than the one who beat the Bulls by 30 earlier, and I was correct it wasn't. The other team with Lewis and Carter simply gave the Bulls fits with their perimiter shooting, tough match-up in length, and overall quickness than guys like J-Rich and Arenas.. Doesn't mean they are better players, it was simply just the match-up. I never wanted to play the Magic before just because of those those two and what a nightmare they are playing against us and of course you got that Howard guy thrown in. I think Richardson is an upgrade over Carter, at least on the break he is, albeit his numbers since the trade haven't been fantastic. He is definitely faster than Carter though, and doesn't need the ball in hands consistently like Carter did. I agree about Lewis though, right now the Arenas for Lewis trade hasn't been a big win for either team. Arenas is dealing with arthritis in his knee, and hasn't been anything more than a league average backup PG at this point. Hedo's the wildcard though, his play off the pick and roll causes fits defensively for teams like Boston, and last night was probably his worst game in a Magic uniform since the trade (2 for 12). The main thing about Lewis though was that he would force Boozer to play on the perimeter defensively if he played at the 4. Maybe Anderson needs to get into the starting lineup for Bass. Right now Orlando are only going to win if they improve a bit more defensively (which is a work in progress, but with Howard clogging and the middle and SVG coaching this I am confident in), and the perimeter guys hitting their shots. Last night we definitely didn't do the latter. Howard's no longer a concern because he's raised his game offensively this season.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 07:01 PM) Once again, that has nothing to do with these current teams. The Magic are much different than their finals team and the Bulls are much different than they've been. Not to mention, the top of the Eastern Conference this season is about a million times better than it was when Orlando got through it. Lets just say, there's absolutely 0 reason for me to believe that Orlando is better than the Bulls at this point. They really haven't played that much to be perfectly honest because of Noah's injuries. That being said, when Noah has been around, the last two games Dwight has had something like 13 and 9 points, certainly not dominating and certainly no 40 points. Albeit it's definitely better now, but we still had to go through Boston and Cleveland, and that was without Nelson and with Skip to My Lou and Courtney Lee as our backcourt. I'll give credit to the Bulls for the way they played defensively last night. Over a 7 game series though, I don't see our perimeter guys shooting that badly as they did last night. No-one other than Dwight played well.
  5. Good win for you guys. J-Rich, Hedo and Gilbert were a combined 9 for 33 last night. They simply just have to shoot the ball a lot better if we're going to have success in the playoffs. Gotta do a much better job on the boards as well (Bass especially).

    Europe

Right, I've been travelling around Europe for the past month (and also went to places before that), so I've got recommendations on the places that I've been to. Stockholm - Pricey, but a cool city to check out nonetheless. Quite artsy and cultural if you're into that type of stuff. Gamla Stan (Old Town) is pretty cool with it's old cobbled laneways and bars etc. There's enough bars and pubs around for a good night out, and they also have plenty of boats on the harbor that you can go on for a good time as well. Dublin - Temple Bar is the main sort of tourist area, pretty overpriced and not that good though. Baggot St. is a much better place to go out at. Besides that you've got the Jail, the Whiskey Distillery and the Guiness Factory, but not much else really. Brussels - Would only recommend it for a weekend. The thing I love about Belgium is the food and drink. They make fantastic pommes frites (french fries) and Belgian Waffles. And they make fantastic beers, the Delerium Cafe has loads and loads for very cheap (3 Euro's for a bottle of Duvel which is about 9% ALC). Besides that, you've got the Mannekin Pis (little man piss) and the Grand Place. Not much else really. Paris - Pretty obvious what to check out, Eiffel Tower, Lourve (was closed on a Tuesday when I went so be warned), Notre Dame Cathedral and the Arc Du Triomphe. Not really a place you go to for a night out though, more of an arts / cultural experience. Zurich - Went here last week with 2 mates visiting someone who works over there. Priciest city I've been by far, drinks and food is not cheap here at all especially when eating out (e.g 30 franks for a Fish and Chips and a Bottle of Heineken at an Irish Pub). Not a big tourist city, you've got the river and Lake Zurich which is nice, more the city you just go to walk around in. Has some really cool nightclubs though, but you really need to know where they are. Oh and it's LOADS of Strip Clubs and Brothels as well. A work colleague of my mate over there blew 2500 Franks for him and 2 others for a night out there. Barcelona - Favorite city I've been to here by far. Would be fantastic in the summer. Loads to do, go watch a game of soccer at the Nou Camp, go to the Barceloneta Harbor, walk down Las Ramblas, and go see all of the famous churches in the city and go visit the Montujic Area (where the Olympic Stadium is and the Castle which has an amazing view overlooking the city and the harbor). I'm off to Berlin on Monday and that'll be it for my European Travels.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) Almost as funny was Shaq at #2 in the East centers. WTF people? There just isn't that many good big man in the East (besides Dwight) who have actually played the whole season so far. I'd probably take Al Horford as my backup big if I had to take somebody (even if he's played more PF this season).
  8. Yep safe to say the Jet Flying, Limousine Riding son of a gun has lived that lifestyle a bit too much. WOOOOOOO. Hope Del Rio wins the Rumble, and that leads to an Edge vs Del Rio WM main event. Barrett vs Undertaker seems certain to happen as well.
  9. Sexism in Soccer at it's finest; http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...Sky-Sports.html
  10. Worst performance in a while by us against the Pistons, T-Mac turned back the clock in the 1st Q. SVG will have this team working on nothing but the defense until the playoffs arrive, as it just hasn't been as good since the trade was made. If Troy Murphy gets bought out by the Nets, we'll be all over him as the backup C to replace Gortat.
  11. Dead Space 2 got 9's from IGN so I'll definitely be checking that one out. Apparently Isaac loses it pretty good in that game.

    2011 Films Thread

I'm hoping the Eva Green as Talia al Ghul rumors are true. Really rate her as an actress, and she'd make a for a really good love interest / femme fatale in that movie. Hardy as Bane will be very interesting, he'll have to bulk up quite a bit.
  13. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 12:25 AM) Comments like this irk me. The Bulls ARE amongst the top 3 in the East. I think you generally overrate the Magic, but you're a fan so it makes sense. I'm not really scared of them at all, especially if/when the Bulls get healthy. The only thing you have on the Bulls is that the Magic whoop their ass once a season by 40+. I just feel with the Bulls because they haven't been in the thick of it all at the business end of the playoffs for a while, that is going to hurt them in the playoffs, while teams like Boston and Orlando know what it's all about there. Miami I'll give a pass to, because of Lebron etc. I feel Orlando are usually underrated by the national media especially when compared to Boston and Miami, when they've made the conference finals the last 2 seasons in a row. And if anything, I'm more confident in the team that I was at any point last season because of the trade we made.
  14. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 12:07 AM) but i think the magic has a bigger weakness than the bulls do. they have absolutely no front court depth after howard. they also do not have any good perimeter defenders on their roster. so if howard is forced to sit with foul trouble (which he did last year in the playoffs), the magics are doomed with no interior or perimeter defense and live and die by the three ball. Q-Rich is a pretty decent perimeter defender still (albeit he doesn't offer much on the offensive end). I think we'll still try to pick someone up as a big, we've got Ryan Anderson (who's been playing very well lately) and Malik Allen as our 2 backup bigs ATM. Against Boston, I'd be worried. Against Chicago and Miami, I don't think it's that big of an issue (as neither team are exactly stocked down low either).
  15. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 11:32 PM) The Bulls are in the Top 3 in the East. So can they not challenge themselves? Yeah they should definitely make the Conference Semi - Finals (although whoever gets Atlanta in the 1st round will have an interesting time). I just don't see them on Miami, Boston and Orlando's level, yet, but they're very close. They're 1 impact player away IMO. You also have to wonder if Rose can keep playing at such a high level for the rest of the season and into the playoffs, but getting Noah back and a trade at the deadline should help him on that regard.
  16. Just a lazy 47 and 14 for Griffin, he's got the ROY wrapped up right now. Magic vs. Celtics should be a good one in an hour and a half. I also think the Bulls don't have enough depth to challenge the top 3 in the East yet. Get an upgrade at SG, and that could definitely push them into that bracket though I think.
  17. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 01:21 AM) Please tell me someone saw that move by Bolland. HOLY SHNIT!
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 05:42 PM) Nah, Love wouldn't be in my top 10. Who would be FWIW? This is how I'd have it (or thereabouts); Kevin Durant Lebron James Dwight Howard Dwayne Wade Chris Paul Derrick Rose Kevin Love Blake Griffin Carmelo Anthony Russell Westbrook or Rajon Rondo or Eric Gordon.
  19. And you'd be assuming Peavy will be ready to go early on in the season. I'd only consider it if the Yankees were willing to swap Rosario for Flowers as well, or chuck in a couple of nice prospects in with Joba the Hutt.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 02:28 AM) Kevin Love is NOT a f***ing top 10 player in the NBA. I care not what PER says on this subject... and points and rebounds are glamorous, but GTFO. Top 10 players don't play on 10-30 teams. They carry their teams to AT LEAST .500. He's a decent passer, and a fantastic rebounder with little competition for that statistic on his roster. Kevin Love. Top 10. NBA. GTFO. I won't even bother to comment on the audacity of calling Blake Griffin a top 10 player in the League right now. I'll re-phrase that. If you were selecting players to build a franchise around for the next 10 years, Love and Griffin would be on my list. EDIT: I also think you have to look at who's coaching both teams and the surrounding talent they have on their roster.
  21. QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 14, 2011 -> 11:36 PM) I'd take the guy that averages the same number of points, THREE more rebounds a game and is a far better shooter. I'm not saying Griffin isn't good, but Love is simply better. Less Sportscenter highlights, but that doesn't make him a worse player. And for what it's worth, Griffin is just as bad defensively as Love is. It obviously depends on how you value those things, but let's not pretend Griffin is this defensive stud while Love makes his team suddenly give up thousands of points per game. EDIT: Of course, the site I just linked to thinks Corey Brewer and Wes Johnson are better than Kevin Love. So it's obviously full of s***. Griffin is also basically a rookie (since he technically missed all of his 1st season), and Love's in his 3rd season in the league. Griffin also has a higher FG%, and i only expect this to get better going forward as he becomes a better shooter. Argubly, both these players are already top 10 players in the NBA and guys you can build a team around.
  22. I drive a Honda Prelude, although I haven't driven it since May last year. I would love to drive a Mini Cooper. More a fan of smaller cars that handle nicely than big SUV's.
