Start Packing for Houston - ALDS Games 1&2 Oct 7/8th
ChiSox59 replied to shago's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Probably not, but any idea what time these games will be at yet? I hate day games for playoffs - especially during the work week. -
Move Moncada to accommodate burger? Lolololol
-
Can Engel come back please. B Good sucks

9/16 GT: Angels @ White Sox, 1:10pm

I don't believe we've seen our full team play all season? Have we had a single game with this lineup (ignoring batting order): TA SS, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B, Eloy DH, Grandal C, Robert CF, Vaughn LF, Engel RF, Hernandez/Garcia/whoever at this point 2B. I don't think we have, and I think we've only had a few not counting Engel too. -

Let's win the series. Then sweep the hapless Rangers. -
+1,000,000. TLR still kind of sucks. This team is still 4 games behind its xW-L, and LaRussa hasn't really done this team a ton of favors with his "strategies". Last night was tough. Got one of the fastest dude in the world at 2B with no outs and cant' score him. I know TLR doesn't use TA on off-days, but if you're going to sit him 3x a week right now, he should be available off the bench to PH.

Cesar Hernandez traded to White Sox, Konnor Pilkington to CLE
ChiSox59 replied to KrankinSox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Regarding Kopech - lol what? I agree the Kimbrel trade sucks but it wasn’t made for August or September. It was made for October and hopefully he’s figured it out by then. Cesar has sucked but he’s a fine stopgap. -
Not sure. Wouldn't be against that. Wasn't sure if Lopez would keep starting with the Lynn and Gio back.
-
This guy has me blocked for his god awful Grandal takes (that Yaz guy sure does suck, eh!?). I have read on multiple occasions Keuchel needed to pitch 160 IP in both 21 and 22 including on Sox official release on the signing, but perhaps that wasn't the technical language in the contract. Cots is a nice resource, but certainly isn't 100% accurate. But if that language is correct and its 320 IP in 21-22 and 160+ in 22, I guess keeping him under 160 innings this year doesn't matter all that much. In any event, Sox need to do whatever they can to avoid that option from vesting. Even if Keuchel is back to his pre-2021 self next season, paying him $20M in 2023 is something they should avoid doing. Is it really bad faith to take a rotation spot from a guy with an ERA of 7.50 his last 50 innings? Of course its not.
-
Dallas is at 145.1 innings. If Sox keep him under 160 IP, his vesting option for 2023 is torn up. Obviously, the hope is Dallas figures it out next season and is back to being a solid #4 type. WOuld be ideal to just keep him under 160 this year. Making a regular start every 5th game, he'd have 4 starts left including today. IMO, I'd give him 2 more at 5 innings max and then let Lambert take the last 2 and get Keuchel ready for the pen role he's going to have in October. Would be really dumb to let him throw like 165 innings.

Lol. Maybe we can send them that Kimbrel guy back!

Posted this in yesterday's game thread that will soon close, but.... Cesar sporting the 219/.294/.288 slash with 3 homers and 9 RBI across 165 PA. Hope the Sox try to figure out a way to improve on Cesar this offseason. Not priority A like RF should be, but should be on the list. At this point, I am not even sure you pick up the option because if you do end up finding a fit for 2B elsewhere, you may need to eat $ to trade Cesar. I am sure am going to miss Nicky.

I mean, you're not wrong. .219/.294/.288 slash with 3 homers and 9 RBI across 165 PA is pretty Yolmer-like. Hope the Sox try to figure out a way to improve on Cesar this offseason. Not priority A like RF should be. At this point, I am not even sure you pick up the option because if you do end up finding a fit for 2B elsewhere, you may need to eat $ to trade Cesar. Gio back, Collins up, Mendick and Seby down
ChiSox59 replied to SouthSideGeorgia's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He probably wouldn’t clear waivers actually. In fact, a bunch of team would Take a chance on a guy with his profile and cheap no strings attached control . -
Yeah, I also don't think he's going to get the paydays some around here think ($120M+ Wheeler deal is comp that has been thrown around), but IMO his floor is $15-18M AAV on a 3 year deal, assuming he doesn't get seriously injured next 45 days. Still not really an investment I think the Sox should or will make based on where things currently stand.
-
I hear ya. But I don't think Jerry's loyalty is going to outweigh his dislike for handing pitchers monster contracts, not to mention one that can't stay healthy and frankly has a very limited track record of actually being good. Then there's also the fact that the rotation is pretty set already moving forward.
-
There is no way the CBA is hammered out before the QO decision is due. It’ll exist. The compensation may ultimately change tho.
-
Then hand him a QO. Lynn, Giolito, Cease, Kopech, and Keuchel is the 2022 rotation. ReyLo has probably worked his way into the coversation to take starts for Kopech to keep innings in check since they botched that situation in 21, and hopefully some for Keuchel as well to keep him under 160 innigns since it looks like they're going to botch that in 21 as well. I just don't see how being the high bidder on Rodon at $18-20M AAV over 3-5 year is a wise-use of resources, or a good investment. Some people here even think he might get into Wheeler terrority, which I highly doubt, but you really think Sox are going to hand out potentially their biggest contract ever to a guy who can't stay healthy under their watch, and has a total of like 20 starts of being anything more than a backend SP? So yeah, color me convinced. Even if he is the WS MVP.
-
Rodon will not be pitching for the Sox past 2021. I’d bet very large sums of money on that.
-
I’m still not trading Eloy or Kopech For Burnes based on current team construction. Now that we don’t have Madrigal id obviously do a deal around him. But didn’t like it at the time - was wrong.
-
This. How TF is this boring? I would agree the Sox have played some uninspired ball last 60 days or so, but I’m not bored. More baseball is better. Shortening the season would be catering to those that don’t like the game - don’t do it.
-
Would love to see Keuchel get on track. Nice big ballpark he's familiar with would be a nice place to do it.
-
Carlos has never made 30 starts in a season. He's averaged just 16 starts a season over a 7 year career. Any team handing him $120M+ would be insane. That's without even taking into account he has a 20 game sample of being anything more than a backend SP. I wish Carlos the best following 2021 and I hope he can stay healthy. I certainly hope we get the A+ version of Carlos in October. But if anyone signs him to a multi-year deal over $15M AAV, they're going to regret it.
-
Yet some people around here think some team is going to hand Rodon a Wheeler-like contract? Dude just can't stay healthy. Even 4/$60M would be a sizable gamble.
-
I think SF bows out in first round. Good team for sure but theyve way overachieved. If we can run out a healthy Giolito, Lynn, Rodon in ALDS and then Cease takes the 4th spot in the ALCS, I am not too worried. But if those guys aren’t healthy - obviously the concern rises significantly. As others have said, we’ll see where we’re at in a few weeks. I’d love to play good baseball in Sep, but getting healthy for October IS more important.
