I disagree, but its a fair take. Springer would have been nice, but he wasn't a perfect fit by any means. Conforto will also require significantly less financial commitment at htis point. This lineup needs balance. Not go get all Lillian, but we need a LH bat that isn't allergic to the walk in RF. This team remains very right handed heavy and free swinging outside of 2 players. Gallo would work too, but I personally would balk at what it would require. I don't even know if a Crochet + Burger + Thompson/Dalquist/Kelley gets it done. Its very possible we don't have the bullets to get Gallo without subtracting more than Crochet from the MLB team. I personally don't even want to move Crochet for him. Also, I am not penciling Cespedes or Colas into anything. Neither are that highly regarded around the league. If one of them turns into an everyday regular in the OF, great. But I don't think anyone should be counting on that.

lol. Conforto has a very solid track record as a 3.5-4 WAR player. Lifetime wRC+ and OPS+ of 125 in the league. He's a very good player, he bats LH, good OBP. He's a great fit for this club. I don't know exactly what is going on with him this season, but before the 2021 season he was looking at $100M+ deal. His price tag has certainly gone down in 21 due to his performance to date, but he's by far the best FA fit for the Sox in RF. If he returns to what he has always done, he is going to make a team very very very happy and create a ton of value. Who would you suggest is a better FA option?

Which is an incredibly important part of the game of baseball......

We legitimately, especially with his terrible season, could likely sign Michael Conforto to a 3 year deal for the amount of money Blackmon is owed as of the trade deadline. It makes no sense for a 3 month rental of a player we're going to have shift to a position he's never played anyway. Conforto will certainly have a market, but he's definitely hurt his bank account this season. Really hoping he's our RF next season.
-
Yeah, Marquez + Story + Blackmon + cash is at least something worth considering, but its a video game trade that has no real basis in reality.
-
Absorbing anything more than a few million bucks per season would be a terrible use of resources. He sucks and is not a solution to anything, but rather a hinderance.
-
Except Blackmon sucks balls and is paid like a star. I'd rather just go get Escobar for next to nothing, and sign a legit LH RF this offseason for the money we'd be paying Blackmon. The White Sox absorbing ~$40-$45M for 2.5 seasons of Charlie Blackmon would be such a terrible use of resources.

If you're only willing to give up is Stiever/Adolfo types, you're not getting any of Frazier, Marte, or Story. edit: Maybe you could get Marte. But hard no on Frazier with secondary 40 man garbage stuff. Story obviously isn't going to cost an arm and a leg, but I think would require at least Burger ++.

I think Eloy should be the primary DH moving forward. But I want his bat in the lineup at NL parks and in the the World Series, if we're ever lucky enough to get there. He needs to play some LF this season and next until Abreu is gone (which likely isn't even happening after 22) and he can learn to play some 1B.

Lots of options. I am not too concerned about the 2022 rotation. Giolito, Kopech, Cease and Keuchel is a great start. I don't think either Lynn or Rodon will be back, and that is OK. Obviously would love to get one of them back, but I am not paying for $15M+ AAV for Rodon. I think Lynn is a possibility. Just get a solid mid to back end guy, and FFS sign or trade for a legitimate LH RF and lets go to fucking battle. Let Crochet take 10 or so starts sprinkled throughout the year, mostly towards the backend and he can take Keuchel's spot in 23 if the option doesn't vest.
-
I would be shocked if Kopech isn't starting regularly in August and September. Crochet? I don't even know at this point. No chance he is starting full time next season. But I don't see them sending him to AAA to get stretched out. So maybe a plan similar to Kopech's this year (assuming they actually stretch him out more in the 2nd half), and get him up to 80-100 innings in 2022, and transition to rotation in 2023.

Why does teams not drafting kids that won't sign anyway mean the draft is fucked up? Honestly just curious why you feel that way - I am all aboard any train that is anti-Manfred.
-
Precisely. Looks like the Neslony deal was unrelated and likely just for cash.
-
Sox should have a little money to play with today right?
-
Me thinks Eloy is going to be in Chicago well before 20 days of rehab.
-
Wasn't saying that! Just wondering if there was more confirmation out there!
-
I was worried about Eloy falling out of shape with 3-4 months of crushing Taco Bell without working out. But he looks fine. He's a big dude, and he isn't getting any smaller. But he looks about the same as he did last season to me.
-
Is this just based on the Slavko Bekovic tweet, and the Tyler Neslony to Sox tweet from some ATL guy? Seems like it makes sense, just wondering if there is more confirmation than 2 lesser known guys tweeting about it each without mentioning the other.
-
Lol every single team in this league would take Moncada without 2nd thought on his current deal. Every single one.
-
This Vaughn guy sucks. Should probably send him down to AAA. He’s killing the team.
-
Didn’t get a chance to watch closely Last night. That bad?
-
If Eloy hits 25 homers in Aug and Sep Sox gonna win 100 games.
-
This should be pinned to every thread: MONCADA IS NOT MOVING OFF 3B!!!

The Grandal will come out tomorrow, you can bet your bottom dollar

Sounds like a minor surgery. If anything, this extends the timeline a week or two from what it sounds like. -
Tommy should have just plowed Simmons for blocking his lane.
