  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 12:25 PM) I don't see it happening. From day one he has been adamant about testing free agency. He's gonna be 30 at the end of next season, it's his one chance for a big contract. Unless the Sox overpay to keep him, I just don't think it will happen. Well, he did just say it is a "dream come true", so maybe 6 years and $100M would sound appealing to him.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) MLB ‏@MLB 5m5 minutes ago "In our mind, we're not finished yet." - @WhiteSox GM Rich Hahn. #WinterMeetings Glad to hear, as we still have a gaping hole in LF.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 11:05 AM) i hope it is not Adams No way.
  4. Depends if Danks is on the roster. If he is, Rodon will be given time to season in the minors. If Danks is shipped out, my guess is Rodon and Noesi are your 4/5.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:10 AM) I'd say that signing another QO free agent seems to make even more sense now. We've already given up the 2nd round pick, why should we hesitate on giving up a 3rd round pick? The issue sounds like they're running out of funds available to spend on those free agents, not that they're worried about giving up the pick. You're still losing your 3rd round pick and bonus pool. There is obviously value there. I trust KW when he says the SOX are going to get creative now. I just don't think Melky is gonna happen anymore - but I hope I am wrong. Although, I do think Rasmus is getting undervalued in this market. He could be a nice guy to have around.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 10:05 AM) And the Yankees receive a compensatory pick between the 1st and 2nd round. The White Sox also lose a portion of their draft signing bonus pool commensurate with the value of the 2nd round pick and I think it hurts their international pool a bit as well. If we sign someone else, we lose the 3rd round pick and that signing team would get a comp pick after the first round as well. Kind of why I am thinking Melky is out of the cards now. Either Rasmus or someone via trade like Ethier/Crawford/Victorino/Joyce are more likely at this point.
  7. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) I'm amazed in this day and age the 3rd player hasn't been leaked yet. Sox and A's front offices are sealed tight. Exactly. It is pretty bizarre no one can say who the 3rd guy is. Just tell us already!!!
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Isn't the new rule that the signing team starts losing picks in either the first or 2nd round depending on their record but the team that lost a player always gets a sandwich pick in-between the first and 2nd round? Yes. The Yanks don't literally get the SOX 2nd round pick, they get a sandwich pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds.
  9. Approximately $100M now. Kenny just stated that they have "a little space", but suggested they will get creative with additional moves. Gimme Rasmus and Bonifacio and I'll be thrilled.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 01:09 AM) You know who would be great right now with Semien gone, Emilio Bonifacio. Yes. Bonifacio makes too much sense. He can play 2B, 3B, LF, CF. An everyday back-up plan at 2B would be nice, as would a guy that can go out and play CF when Eaton inevitability runs into a wall and lands on the DL for 15 days. Bonifacio makes EVEN MORE sense if they don't plan to go out and get a real LF. 2 years, 7.0M. Get it done, Rick.
  11. The pen has gone from miserable to a relative strength in a matter on months. Impressive. If Guerra is the last RHP in your pen, you're doing alright.
  12. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:35 PM) We're already at $80+ million payroll. $30 mil for Melky + Robertson and ~$10 mil for Shark in arb pushes us above $120 mil. Not happening. More like 65.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:22 PM) Maybe we're getting Reddick? Jinx. Hah
  14. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:22 PM) Semien, Danish and Trey is a lot. Maybe Reddick is involved.
  15. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 09:53 PM) Probably won't find anything out until tomorrow Seems silly. They're at the Winter Meetings. Why wait?
  16. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 04:44 PM) shark and reddick for montas, anderson, webb and semien That'd suck.
  17. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 04:38 PM) Man, people are down on Danks. He's overpaid, I get it. But he's a serviceable number 4, and that is something the Sox need. The Sox are currently a starter short as it is. Unless trading him directly facilitates another move, like signing Scherzer (or trading for and extending Samardzija)or something big, I don't see the point of the Sox paying half of Danks' salary to pitch for someone else while still looking for starting pitching themselves. If you pay $7 mil to trade him and sign Masterson for about $9 mil, you are increasing your payroll by about $2 million in 2015 and not really improving the team all that much anyway. Is that really worth it? No. That's why Danks doesn't go unless the sox get something useful in return, which seems unlikely. Danks will be on the sox.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) Sale >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> both of those pitchers FIFY.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) The White Sox can dictate what they want for Sale, in my opinion. If they're not able to clear payroll to go out and acquire an ace to take Sale's role, then you don't do the deal. They have the payroll space to get an ace as is. I agree they can dictate what they want for Sale, but they're simply not going to drag down the return in any trade involving Chris Sale. The whole convo is dumb, because unless some team wants to clear out a top tier farm system, they're not getting him.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 03:02 PM) You're not lowering the return by giving up Danks if you're going for all of the young "studs" they have in their organization. Yes you would. Let's just say the Sox were to trade Sale and Danks to the Red Sox... The Red Sox, without any doubt, would give up more for just Chris Sale. Adding Danks to the deal would lower the return prospect-wise. Sale isn't getting traded, but if Boston decides to offer Betts, Boegaerts, Swihart, Owens and Cecchini..Rick isn't going to say, "well Ben, I am going to need to to take John Danks as well. Hell, you can keep Mookie."
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) Which is why unloading Danks' contract would be a must in any deal No it shouldn't. Why lower the return just to get rid of Danks. It's dumb. Danks goes in a move for another overpaid player, or he is on the Sox. It is that simple. They're aren't going to do another "Teahen move" where they pair Danks with an asset just to get rid of him. Dumb dumb dumb.
