Hahn Speaks
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) Not many teams have an actual ace though. There are like only 20 in all of baseball probably. Chris Sale Corey Kluber Justin Verlander (Used to be an Ace) Johnny Cueto Chris Archer David Price Dallas Keuchel Sonny Gray Cole Hamels Yu Darvish Felix Hernandez Jake Arrieta Adam Wainwright Gerrit Cole Clayton Kershaw Zack Greinke Madison Bumgarner Max Scherzer Jordan Zimmerman (Maybe not?) Harvey, DeGrom, Syndergaard? Fernandez of the Marlins I believe that Rodon could be on this list soon as well as a few other young guys. Any objections? Anyone I left off. Quintana is better than about half the guys on that list. If he spent the last 4 years on the Cardinals, he'd be widely considered one of the top 5 pitchers in the game.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:29 PM) Quintana should have his bags packed Only if an elite ML bat is coming back (plus some unless said bat is cost controlled for some time).

Wild Card Watch 2015
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) Don't look now, but the Indians won 6 in a row and are 64-66, with 32 left. If they can grab another win in Toronto, and the Rangers fall back, they are very much in it. It would be a punch to the gut if a cluster of teams end up 83-79 or 82-80 for the 2nd wc and the Sox aren't one of them. http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/view/wi...rd/group/league A good starting point for the Sox to get hope back would be to go into Minnesota and win three games. Do it. Wouldn't that be great. Starts with Chris tonight. He has a 6.46 ERA against the Twins, and a 2.31 ERA against the rest of the league. A whopping 17 of his 61 ER this year are against the Twins. He needs to SHUT THEM DOWN!

Johnson, Montas, Brantly, & Leury Garcia recalled.
C'mon Sox...give us some names!

Micah Johnson back at AAA, expected call up in Sept
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) There is no way that the Sox should pick up Alexei's option. Sanchez and Saladino should play SS the rest of the way. I am very happy you don't make any decisions pertaining to the White Sox.

Could White Sox trade some pitching to fill other areas in offseason
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) JOSE QUINTANA IS AN ACE Preach it, brotha. Sooner or later Soxtalk will catch on. Q is going nowhere. Bank it.

Chris Tannehill/Score trying to make Harrelson look bad...?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 11:39 PM) Is this guy a golden throated homer? I'd rather have Stoney take over as play by play with somebody like Paulie as colorman. Stoney can get used to play by play. Or let Farmer do it with Stoney. and Orsillo with DJ on radio. Hahahaha PK will not return to the game in an announcing capacity. I could see him managing/coaching someday, but right now, PK is enjoying retirement.

Could White Sox trade some pitching to fill other areas in offseason
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 08:09 AM) Agreed. Colorado needs pitching bady. I would try and swap Montas for MiLB 3B Ryan McMahon. According to MLB's rankings, they are pretty close with Montas ranked #60 and McMahon #56. Not like McMahon will be playing 3B with Arenado cemented in that position. I like it. I hope the Sox explore lots of minors for minors swaps this winter. McMahon-Montas would be a good start. Outside of moving Fulmer, the Sox need to cash in on some of their pitching prospects. We know we can develop pitchers, use it as an advantage and go get some bats.

Utley to Dodgers for 2 minor leaguers
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) Maybe not even Alexei. A team could claim him and then buy out his option and not be on the hook for too much money. Almost certainly Danks, LaRoche and Melky. Possibly Duke. Maybe Robertson, though he wouldn't be moved anyway. I don't know why Albers wouldn't get claimed. He's not owed much. I wouldn't be that surprised to see Melky claimed. Dude is far and away cheaper than any other FA options. His contract isn't that bad in today's game. But the Sox wouldn't and shouldn't let him go.

Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) This is what I have been saying since we fell out of the race. Jason Heyward makes this defense and line up better. Sounds nice and all, but man is he going to be expensive.

Gillaspie DFA'd again
Feel sorta bad for him.

OF Michael Choice
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) It looks like he has only appeared in one game and logged three innings at the ML level this season. That being said, he is not very good looking at the numbers he has put up the last couple of seasons. No reason to bring a guy like that in when we really dont have a good track record of fixing hitters. Just because the organization hasn't had much successful fixing hitters, it doesn't mean you stop trying when the cost is virtually nothing.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) From what I can find, it looks like he wasn't added to the 40 man until September of 2013 when he was called up the Athletics. He would have then used an option in each of 2014 and 2015. He should have one option year left. He already spent more than 20 days in the minors this year so his option for this year was used and he should be able to be sent down. Not sure why they would DFA him. Clearly they needed a spot on the 40 man and they weren't concerned with losing him.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) If you are correct that he has options, then this is a pretty rare occurrence. Almost all DFA's are guys who don't have options. I believe this year was his last option year. So not sure how that works when changing teams, but he was optioned earlier this year without being exposed to waivers, so presumably he can be claimed and optioned to AAA again. He would have to be one 25-man next year, though.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) I'm not moving Quintana. I'd do Montas, EJ and Micah. Aren't you the guy that was super gungho for a Q-Puig swap at the deadline?

KW to Toronto?
Always been a KW fan, mainly because I like to see my team try to win every year. But it just hasn't worked, now going on quite some time. Take the job, Kenny.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) 17th in fWAR right behind Lester and Cole. 9th last year, tied with Sale. But it'd be Q+ apparently, because baseball writers can't bother to do basic research. If anything, it'd be something like EJ + prospects for Puig, which I doubt the Dodgers take. I am passionately against trading Q for Puig, but realize something in that vein may be necessary to acquire an elite bat. I just don't think Puig is an elite bat, and he is a total asshat.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) From Dave Cameron's Fangraphs chat today: If Puig does e moved this winter what type of package would he get? And what are some likely landing spots? Dave Cameron: My guess is that the Dodgers will use him to land a different MLB player (or players) they like. I don’t see him getting moved for prospects, but I could see them trying to use him to go get another young cost-controlled SP. Maybe they offer him to the White Sox for Quintana and something? Cameron is a pretty well connected guy. This may just be throwing s*** at the wall to see if it sticks, but there seems to be a little smoke here in regards to a Puig for Quintana swap. Where he is wrong is the Quintanta + something. It would be Puig + something for Quintana. Q remains one of the most underrated players in the game.

Adam Eaton's defense

White Sox @ Angels 9:05 PM CST
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) I think Saladino is going to make an excellent utility player and a solid late inning defensive replacement. No shame in that, nothing wrong with it. That's always a valuable piece on a team. But starting? Especially at 3rd base which is a power / home run / big RBI position...can't see it. Sanchez should be an adequate / solid second baseman. Anderson may be a pretty good shortstop...we'll have to see. As far as Johnson, until he shows he can actually stay healthy it's all a moot point with him. (Or a moo point, the point of view of a cow as Joey said on "Friends...") LOL. Mark 3B maybe used to be a big time power / home runs / big RBI position, but it really isn't anymore. Sure, it'd be great to have an elite 3B, but there are very few. There are about 5 really good ones (Donaldson, Machado, Arenado, Frazier, Seager), a few good ones that are getting old (Beltre and Longoria) and some solid guys and promising kids (Carpenter and Bryant). After that it is pretty meh. You can get away with a 3B without a ton of power, but you probably need to have it elsewhere.
