Which is why this org is completely fucked.
-
I believe there is still a cap hold for your own guys which complicated matters. I barely pay attention to the NBA any more so perhaps someone more knowledgeable can shine light on what is possible.
-
I don’t think they have much cap space to throw a larger contract around. Probably not enough for a difference maker. I just laugh at the notion that AK has the green light to go into the tax when they have bumped right up against it the past season+ and refused to add anything that would put them over. So instead they will resign Vuc and lazily run it back, locking themselves into more mediocrity with no way to improve for the foreseeable future. Such inspiring profit over winning we get from JR owned teams..:

Before the rebuild flopped and the FO/org proved to be completely incompetent, I agree Harper or Machado come here if the money were right. This org is it’s current state, this putrid festering wreck with zero hope or direction, I just don’t see anyone coming unless the offer blows every other out of the water.
-
Can’t wait for another draft in which the sit-on-their-hands-iest org in the association once again sits on their hands and doesn’t improve the roster one bit.
-
Yup. It would take a Cohen like new owner to completely transform how this entire franchise operates before a marquee FA ever considered coming here. Ohtani + this current team isn’t winning anything, and why would he burn more of his prime waiting for the roster to be good enough when he just left the same situation?
-
A) The names Albert Belle and Shohei Ohtani shouldn’t be uttered in the same sentence. B) Even if the White Sox made a legit offer that didn’t get them laughed out of the conference room, why the f*** would Ohtani come to this wreck of a franchise?
-
Seriously, what the f*** is this nonsense? Are you seriously blaming fans for the state of this sorry org? GTFO.
-
Did you expect KW to do anything but tow the company line with the same empty bravado as always?
-
Someone involved in roster decisions has a soft spot for Sheets, but it’s not like these guys can scout talent. If we see Colás again this season it won’t be until they’ve reclaimed that month of service time, and or until they’ve sold off a few pieces.
-
Plan? This org?
-
I always love when they broadcast their intentions through Bob. Get ready for those cost cutting trades…
-
Huh, so basically running it back with new but still subpar coaching didn’t magically fix this mess? Nor did spending $75M on a bat with no pop?

Clevinger & Andrus Back, Scholtens optioned, Alberto DFA

Never fear, Hanser will be back as UTIL after they trade TA and Elvis is the everyday SS. -
If KW really believes that, oh boy. But this is Bruce Levine talking so for as far as we know he imagined it.
-
He is a bad GM in a bad org. No need to sugar coat it. He built a talented but very flawed roster that succumb to those flaws. He failed miserably at building depth or any semblance of a minor league system that would supplement the club. He’s also burned ungodly amounts of money on crap players while failing to land any impact talent in FA outside of Hendriks. He doesn’t work in baseball again once this gig is over. He is bad, period.

‘Mired’ implies that there are outside forces in play. They aren’t mired in anything. Their mediocrity is simply a choice.

TLDR they just suck? -
Why did the downfall happen and could it have been avoided?
Tnetennba replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That top farm system was completely top heavy, and they failed spectacularly building any depth or that mythical pipeline of young talent to supplement the core. They sold nearly everything for prospects and called it good enough. What they called a rebuild was the same half-assed effort we’ve known since forever. -
#3 nails it. Yes Hahn put together a solid core in a short period of time, but the majority of the prospects came from other orgs. That #1 ranked system was so very top heavy. And the corner cutting started almost immediately after the rebuild was officially underway. They banked everything on that one group panning out and did little to subelement, let alone build a 2nd and 3rd wave of talent behind them.
