See, you are jumping the gun assuming he is no longer a candidate. We know absolutely nothing. As far as we know nothing has changed and he is still in the running.
The Ozzie interview coming from the bargain basement Sox PR account feels like both deflection and mere courtesy. Ozzie no doubt wants to manage again, and the Sox might just be throwing him a solid.
I'm going to guess that Mike jumped the gun again. It may still turn out to be true, but we have to wait & see. Astros are likely headed to the World Series and all parties involved might not want anything to distract from his duties with the club. We have no corroboration yet, but no one reputable has shot it down yet either.
The franchise also has a sordid history of being cheap and seeming shady, at least from the outside. Maybe that's in the past, but I would imagine that weighs on someone's decision.
I would be ok with Madden over a few of the names floating around, but he’s far from my top choice. I feel like some of the shine has worn off. I also question why he would want to be a part of this dysfunctional org, but then again he worked for LAA for so he might fit right in.
The bulk of the roster is most likely returning and they are banking on bounce backs from many. This is where the managerial hire + staff will be paramount.
It doesn’t. My heart doesn’t want to see him in another uniform, but my head can’t find a rational path to bringing him back while also addressing RF, the need for LH power, improving the OF defense, and finding ABs enough for everyone.
