That was my knee jerk reaction to his hiring too, but the more I dig in the more I like him. I’m quite impressed with him in this presser. We just have to hope that he implements everything he’s talking about and it’s not just talk. This is a breath of fresh air vs past hires, so he gets the benefit of the doubt from me.

Other than drunk nap in the dugout, seems pretty obvious that he did nothing.

Yeah, it was pretty easy to see that these guys weren’t prepared every game and had no coherent approach at the the plate.

Funny that Rick mentions pre-game planning and offensive approach.

I know it’s easy for us to look down on the Royals and fear we are hiring cast-offs from a shitty org (pot meet kettle), but if we look past that bias Grifol and Tosar seem to have really good reputations and seem to have had past success helping hitters reach their potential. That alone feels like a breath of fresh air for the Sox org. Will it work? Who knows. KC bias aside they both like solid outside hires, and this insular org could use a lot more new blood.

That would be a lateral move, right? Unless he's not under contract next season it would seem like an odd move. Makes me wonder if it is someone from the Phillies org though. Hard to know who Grifol has ties to as well.

I feel much better now having read through this thread. I'm still leery of this clown shoes org getting a hire right, but Grifol looks like a much more qualified and legit candidate than I initially thought. I do like the addition of Montoyo too. Hopefully we soon say goodbye to Menechino, McEwing, and Boston next. Very interested in who the hitting coach will be.

I know nothing other than he's a long time Royals guy, but that's not exactly inspiring. Insular org goes with the weakest candidate that won't call them on their toxic BS.

I want it to be #2, but deep down I'm not sure I believe they would or could be so competent to pull off this level of misdirection, or even have the desire to. They seem to be casting a wide net, but what that actually says I don't know either.

I tend to agree. Long is still out there, and Mendoza looks like a perfectly fine candidate as well. I'm not declaring doom and gloom, but I won't be shocked if or when they announce another asinine extremely White Sox hire.
