As a Sixers fan I gotta interject on this slander…the “process” was never completed because the NBA are crooks and forced the Collangelo’s upon the Sixers and fired Sam Heinkie. The process was ruined by bad moves from a guy who had burner accounts on Twitter talking bad about his own players. Regardless, the Sixers still went from a 6th-10th seed with no hope to a perennial contender…even if the big playoff success hasn’t come to fruition yet.

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
TheFutureIsNear replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He always did, his contract and performance aren’t bad at all…no idea why people didn’t think he had any value. I don’t want to trade him, but trading Liam may very well be the best way to both free up $ and get value back for this team. -
17.5 for Bellinger…said to have turned down multi year offers to take the 1 year deal. Not that it’s a bad risk for them to take…but not sure how the 1 year deal really helps the cubs. Use the 17.5M this year to get a comp pick out of him?

Not sure how legit, but would be a major shake up

Liam Hendriks coming up in trade discussions
TheFutureIsNear replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’m not justifying anything. We all know we have an awful and cheap owner. But we also all know there’s nothing we can do about the situation, it is what it is. I’m only talking about the reality of here and now…the roster needs to be improved and trading Liam does indeed represent an opportunity to do so. Not to mention that there’s like 3 quality free agent OF’ers that you listed and Benintendi is probably the only realistic option. -
Liam Hendriks coming up in trade discussions
TheFutureIsNear replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We have 1 OF’er on the roster, of course it’s conceivable we could improve the team by trading Liam. I would have no problem with Lopez sliding into the closer role. The biggest mishap with Jose was not trying to trade him at the deadline. Moving on from soon to be 36 and 34 year olds while they still have value is never a bad idea…now can this front office actually make a smart move and improve the team? That’s a fair question. -
Can’t imagine how fun it must be to be a fan of 1 of these teams that actually participates in the big free agent signings….

Rodon to the Yankees, $162 million
TheFutureIsNear replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He’ll def end up getting more, but anything over 4/100 is taking a huge risk on Carlos in my opinion. Maybe throw in a 5th year based on an IP incentive to take it to 5/125, but guaranteeing 6 would be crazy…and won’t surprise me if it happens -
Bryan Reynolds’s requests trade

Yeah you’re right, my projection was what I expect for the collective average of Vaughn’s prime. -
Bryan Reynolds’s requests trade
TheFutureIsNear replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’d say the 2006 version specifically. .298/.350/.477 with 24 HR’s sounds about right to hope to get out of Vaughn’s prime years. Very good player, shouldn’t be looking to get rid of that player by any means…but when you are talking about a 1B/DH only type of guy the value obviously goes down. If Vaughn could be used in a package without Colas or Montgomery to get an all-star caliber LH OF’er I think you’d have to seriously consider it. -

Do you honestly think the White Sox are going to sign a free agent to a contract over 100 million $ this off season? -

If it involves us getting an all-star caliber LH OF’er who cares? 1B should be the easiest position to fill. Even if you don’t want to commit that $ to Bell there are other options that will fill 1B adequately. I’be been a Vaughn supporter and haven’t wanted to trade him…but what’s his ceiling really? Of course signing Nimmo is the easy answer, but people casually talking about that like it’s not going to be a contract 30+M bigger than any contract Jerry has ever signed is crazy. It’s not going to happen. If we want to get an impact OF’er it’s most likely going to have to be a trade giving up guys we don’t want to like it or not. With that said, I would only do a deal with 1 of Vaughn or Montgomery, not both. Vaughn, Crochett, Ramos + 1 of Sosa or Rodriguez should be enough I believe. If someone beats that offer then oh well. -
Bryan Reynolds’s requests trade

Mostly traded Graveman to fit Jerry’s budget. Getting a decent prospect to restock also wouldnt be the worst idea. But I don’t think it would be a huge deal. some risk relying on certain guys for depth for sure, but I think the bones of a good bull pen are there for sure. 9th- Hendricks 8th- Lopez/Bummer Key 6th/7th inning guy- Lambert (maybe I like him too much?) The risk is relying on solid innings out of Kelly and Diekmam, but not much we can after Hahn screwed us on their contracts. I also think Davis Martin has a future as a good middle reliever. Sign a couple of vets to minor league deals as well and hope to hit on a serviceable arm. -

Gio, Hendriks and Jose Rodriguez for Gavin Lux and James Outman. Sign Quintana and Conforto SS- Anderson 2B- Lux CF- Robert DH- Eloy RF- Conforto/Colas 1B- Vaughn C- Yaz 3B- Yoan LF- Outman/Colas Cease, Lynn, Kopech, Q, Clevinger Martin, Diekman, Kelly, Lambert, Bummer, Graveman, Lopez

In theory what you are saying makes perfect sense…I just have a very hard time imagining a world where the Sox are competent in free agency and are going to sign a quality SP for $50+M.
-
If the Sox weren’t looking to compete this year it would make total sense, but we all know that’s not the case. Again, who’s replacing Giolito in the rotation? If we are talking about bad SP’s getting $10+M, why would you willingly create that hole in the rotation for yourself? It’s not that I’m completely against the idea of trading Gio in general, I just think it will be easier to fill the OF/2B holes than it will to be find another SP that we could possibly be relying on to be a top 3 guy in our rotation come playoff time (who knows if Kopech/Clevinger will be good/available in Sept.)
-
Multiple pieces? How much value does Gio have after a poor season and only 1 year of control? Even if we are able to get a LH OF’er for Gio is it going to be someone significantly better than someone like Benintendi or Conforto that we could just sign? Because whatever $ we save trading for an OF’er would then have to be spent on a SP to fill Gio’s rotation spot…which will probably be more expensive or a huge ? (Not that Lucas is a sure thing)
-
IF (it’s a big if) the front office does their job and adds LH OF’ers I think it will actually be difficult to justify a roster spot for Sheets. It will most likely come down to 1 spot for Burger or Sheets. If the front office fails to add enough lefties to the lineup then I guess Sheets will make it by default, but I’d like to see Burger on the roster all year.
-
I’m all for being aggressive with prospects…but I don’t think Montgomery is even a thought for any part of ‘23. Maybe September best case scenario Colas is a different story…yes, he should be factored heavily into 2023 plans. Hopefully he’s starting opening day.
-
To adequately fill the OF spot it’s almost going to have to come via trade no? Are they going to spend another 12-15 mil on an OF’er and spend around $30 mil this off-season (assuming a couple of small/gamble signings)? So the trade will have to be us giving up some at least pretty good prospects (the few we have) for a guy not making much $. Or We trade someone making decent $ on the 53 man roster. I know Gio is brought up a lot, but still doesn’t make sense to me to create another hole to fill 1 which includes Lynn. Yaz is negative value. Moncada is at an all time low in value, if he has any. And there isn’t much else to trade making $ that makes sense…other than in the bullpen with Graveman and Hendricks, which seem like the most likely candidates. Obviously there have been a ton of ideas thrown around, but is there any kind of consensus on realistic options? The trade candidates for a LH hitting OF’er with pop that is also a good fielder seem to be few and far between. And yes, I’m aware the Sox front office by no means HAVE to fill the spot adequately…just looking at best case scenario
-
Thoughts on buying low on Jarred Kelenic? Seems like he should be available with the Mariners in win now mode and rumors pointing to them still looking to add another OF’er. Don’t know where the value lies in a Kelenic for Graveman deal lands, but I don’t hate the idea of gambling on a big upside LH OF’er without spending $.

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
TheFutureIsNear replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The minors BABIP is slightly scary. I know a lot of good prospects have high BABIP in the minors, but always a little scary to see a guy without huge power benefitting from a BABIP above .370 consistently. Not saying he can’t still be really good…was just looking at his stats at that popped out at me. -
Gonzales is a reasonably priced 4th/5th starter than can throw 180+ innings of 4ish ERA ball…exactly what we need And Winker is a lefty with a career OPS of .800+. If we have Robert and Colas in the other 2 OF spots we can live with a below average LF. And a match needed young depth OF’er with upside sweetens the deal . I swear some of you are expecting miracles to happen just so you can b**** and complain when they don’t. Just trying to throw out realistic ideas.
