Weird line for Hagen Smith. Not gonna be too effective walking 9 per 9, but with all the Ks, you gotta imagine his stuff will play anywhere. Interesting development to follow.

Interesting to see Schweitzer scheduled for the day they have a rotation opening. No pressure on your first AAA start, kid.
  3. Schweitzer moved up to Charlotte.

Kanny and Charlotte both win in extras after blowing leads. Kanny gave up a 6-0 lead in the 9th. Birmingham cruises behind solid pitching. The pen there is pretty good. Possible reinforcements for later in the year.
  5. They should have gotten the ball from Palacios’ single just in case it’s his last hit in the majors.
  6. Why not Dalbec? At least he might run into one. You are 3 runs down with 2 on.

For sure. But he was only transitioning to starting in college when he had TJS, and Josh Barfield has openly mused about him closing, so the role is definitely up in the air.

Didn't get a chance to see it but Taylor 3IP 0H 0R 2bb 5K. Only questions with him are role and health. I want to stretch him out as a starter, but if that fails, he'd be a hell of a late inning guy.

Nastrini pretty good tonight 6IP 2H 0R 2bb. Still somewhat shaky fastball command, but throwing his hat in the ring for that 5th starter job.

3-3 so far. Double was a thing of beauty.
  11. Possible the next guy up will be Schweitzer. If he’s around 95 with the fastball, the other stuff will play. Not a huge prospect like Smith or Schultz but could be a decent back end option.
  12. Tried it once and Sox got first pick so I quit.
  13. Add Lombard and Grady Emerson and you have 3 elite talents on the top of that draft. You definitely want to be picking top 3.
  14. Cannon really relaxed once he knew the Sox had no chance to win.
  15. Bonemer did say that he kinda refused to adjust his mechanics downward to hit the 80 mph offerings of Lansing area teens wrapping up their baseball careers. Maybe that explains it. What has stood out to me is his consistency and maturity. He was the same dude last week as he was during his first week when he was getting robbed like every third at bat. He has a good understanding of the zone and he hits the ball hard. He is very promising.
  16. What’s the leash on Vargas? If Drury and Rojas ever get healthy, does he sit vs. rhp? I mean, he’s almost as bad as last year.
  17. Cannon sucking is a real blow to their ability to get through games all week. They have a bunch of starters who go 5 innings every time out, then Cannon gives you 3-4. No one has that many long relievers. I predict Tyler Gilbert gonna have to wear it today.
  18. 0-8 already w/RISP. Wasting this many chances early does not bode well.
  19. Cannon has to nibble cuz his stuff is so darned hittable.
  20. Amaya: better or worse hitter than Maldonado?
  21. I guess Brent Rooker would be the 99% outcome for Elko. That statcast data is super interesting.
  22. The Perez part of this is bad. Now, Sox need a fifth starter for the rest of the year. Iriarte may get first crack, but I would be shocked if he is any good. Maybe B. Wilson? I wonder if this hastens Schultz’s timetable to July or something. Crazy all the TJs.

Braden Montgomery’s arm is a 70 or maybe higher. He has an absolute cannon. Held a runner on a single to center by throwing a pea chest high to the catcher. One of the better outfield arms in all of baseball. Bonemer has looked very good in the field. Strong arm. No doubt he stays on the left side. I think he’s made one error this year. Fast runner, so he currently has plenty of range but he is a huge guy, so I can see why people say he may not profile there. They both are what it looks like. Good scouting by the Sox.
  24. Huh. Iriarte has looked like crap every time out this year. There’s very little on his fastball and his command has been awful. Of the two, Nastrini has been better and he’s on the 40 man too. This would be a head scratcher, especially since they need someone in that spot moving forward. I would still do Vasil or B. Wilson, but maybe this is with an eye to the long term.

My thought is that Braden Montgomery looks like a stud. Bonemer looks just as good or better. That can’t be a bad thing. Teel is more of a decent regular, maybe with occasional all star potential. He is not as athletically gifted as those other guys.
