I called it at the time. Fedde trade was a complete and unmitigated disaster. Whoever recommended him should be fired along with Getz. Not like you couldn’t see this when Vargas was a Dodger. You could.

Vargas was slumping with the Dodgers too. Getz traded for the equivalent of Sosa/Colas. What a disaster. I would bring up Ramos and make Vargas earn his next call up next year. Maybe he can make adjustments over the winter. If you can’t hit a 4-seamer, you cannot play in mlb.

The Sox have a decent system with a couple of glaring holes: there’s no aircraft carrier core offensive performers. Quero probably hits 6th in a good mlb lineup. Montgomery is a question mark at this point, but even at his best, he seemed more like Robin Ventura than Frank Thomas. And, the Sox lack depth because their efforts in LatAm have been disastrous. Aside from Gonzalez, Shirley has done a pretty good job finding future mlb contributors in the last several drafts. Hopefully, Wolkow and Bonemer reach their high ceilings. Sox need more guys like them.

This is idiotic. Teams have found non-traditional tactics to win games, and the league’s response is to say, “No, there’s only one right way to win a baseball game.” Sports should welcome a diversity of skills and strategies, imho.

This is an entire, scrape-the-rotting-edifice-off-the-earth, complete and total tear down. If you listen to the latest BA podcast on AL Central organizations, the Sox are pretty much considered the worst org in baseball with a farm system bereft of positional talent. They basically say the only possible impact bat is Wolkow, but the odds against him are pretty high. If Getz sets up a new international regime and improves instruction, that will help subsequent teams regardless of the owner. To get this org to average is going to take a long time regardless of the ownership structure.

The guy who is looking better down there, honestly, is Ramos. But I suppose he’s blocked as they work out whether or not Vargas can hit. What a catastrophe that trade is.

Ha ha. Just from an entertainment perspective, it would be nice to see him slap the ball around and run. No one on the Sox plays with his level of enjoyment.

2 run HR for Moore. Man, he may be the real deal. Had a great season in the SEC, but there were doubters come draft time. A lot of people think the Angels reached. Maybe not.
