  1. Question for everyone: if they stopped doing the National Anthem before sporting events, would you care? And why or why not?
  2. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 30, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) So you're saying he's adapted to the American way of life quickly? He sounds like most annoying Millenials!
  3. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) Chapman had his charges dropped and still was punished by MLB Probably more of the third hand part.
  4. Can we all agree that despite it being a religious holiday, that Christmas really isn't a religious holiday? I know plenty of Atheist/religion bashers/non-religious people that love Christmas and go all out celebrating.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) If you go by WAR in 2006 Thome 4.8 Brian Anderson 0.0 Mackowiak 0.4 Rowand 1.2 Big Hurt 2.4 seems a net plus to me as well. Had to go back and look at Mackowiak's numbers after seeing he was positive WAR. Too bad he wasn't a corner bat or bench player.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) Worth adding that one of the reasons Rowand had a down 2006 was that he broke his face slamming into a fence. That will usually do it.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) What a boring offseason. Yeah I figured we would have seen more action in December but man there was almost nothing outside of any (pre-)Winter Meetings action.
  8. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) He was past his prime when the White Sox got him, and sending Rowand to get him was an overpay and IMO part of the reason the 2006 team didn't make the playoffs (CF was brutally bad for that team). The Sox were very fortunate that Thome's age 35-37 seasons were as productive as they were. They really could have just held onto Rowand and gambled on Thomas being healthy (they were gambling on Thome being healthy anyway).
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) Good luck with that. That's less than he was projected to get. Still makes no sense for that team unless they think they are going to be competitive in like the 3rd/4th year and beyond in that deal.
  10. Finally got around to seeing War for the Planet of the Apes. It was an awesome movie. Can't wait for the next one.
  11. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Dec 27, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) They have won 3 titles. I'd say they're doing all right 3 in the past 7 years. I can never compare them to the Cubs.
  12. It kinda depends if they move Garcia and decide to bring in someone to start in CF that they can potentially flip (Carlos Gomez maybe?). Otherwise, the at bats would be minimal.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 11:53 AM) Yep, because the White Sox competitive window, which could be estimated to be between 2019 and 2025, line up almost perfectly with Machado's prime years. You either pay $300 million over 6 years, or you pay $300 million over 10 years, but you're still going to be spending $300 million. Why not lengthen the contract and spread his salary hit out rather than assuming a $50 million pricetag for 6 years? My comment was mostly a joke. Although I actually don't think Longoria is overpaid.
  14. I don't really want to trade any of our prospects yet. Let's revisit this in a year if he is still with Miami.
  15. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) I recall reading the day they got him the Mets immediately placed a call asking about Castro. That doesn't mean they're trying to trade him.
  16. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 22, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) I would say we might be able to decrease the price if we take on a bad contract. Maybe the reason we haven't done that with Kemp or Ellsbury yet is because that is our plan with the Marlins. That's a terrible baseball move but it's the Marlins so who knows.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) I don't think any of the names you mentioned/that I bolded will even start the season at AA. I'd call it a successful year if any of them got there, frankly. Adolfo is probably on a path to Winston-Salem, High-A ball, after spending last year in low-A, Hahn says Winston Salem or even maybe starting at Kannapolis for Robert, Rutherford was crap at Kanny last year and so I'd guess he may start there this year; getting to W-S would be a strong sign for him. I was about to say the same thing. Thanks for saving me time.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) http://www.masnsports.com/school-of-roch/2...nd-britton.html That doesn't say that that was offered. Just names discussed.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) Can't believe Orioles didn't agree to trade Manny for Russell, Montgomery and Almora if that rumor is true Where was that posted?
  20. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) I think the Indians signing Alonzo for 2/15 is an absolute steal. He's going to like getting out of the huge west coast parks and into the ALC parks. And there's three rebuilding teams in the ALC so he'll see his fair share of young pitching mistakes that find their way over the heart of the plate for him to pound on. Smart pickup by the Indians. I like the Alonso and Moreland signs over what Hosmer will get. Hosmer may be the better player but for how much they signed for, that's great value.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 12:46 AM) He's not in favor of the tank obviously. I've been preaching this to the choir during the Sox rebuild. It's pretty sad fans have to pay 40 bucks to park a car or whatever it is and 11 bucks for a beer and 18 bucks for a burger, fries and coke and watch a team that's tanking on purpose. Very sad. I wish the fans would boycott during the tank years then come back when the rebuild is complete. It's bogus. Well technically they don't "have" to. I still enjoy going and kicking it at the park with some friends. Especially friends I haven't seen in a while.
  22. People are saying Longoria is going to be making a lot of money in his mid-30s yet want to go after another player next off-season and pay him almost double in his mid-30s? O.o
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Its not my money either, but this a win/win for both teams. The Dodgers could open up the cash to bring back a Yu and push themselves down into a luxury tax reset. Instead of saving say $20 million over two years, the Dodgers are looking to save tens of millions a year MORE once they head back into luxury tax space. We could be talking $100 million or more in savings because of this one deal. The Sox should explore as the Dodgers have so much talent in all levels of their minor league system. We could still using some position players especially in the OF and 3B. A guy like Jeren Kendall was connected to the Sox a lot during the draft period. Lux is another who was connect to them at various points. Also wouldn't mind looking as some the crazy catching depth they have in their system. Plus, the Dodgers can make a run at Harper next off-season.
  24. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) Cameron wrote an article today suggesting the Indians go after Machado and move Ramirez back to 2B. That would be ideal for us IMO, subtract from their future years when we'll be competitive. I think this is already the plan. We've already seen Kipnis in the OF and there is talk of Brantley going to 1B.
