  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) Soxtalk, because I care about you, I'm taking a hit for the team and am going to listen to the buster olney podcast for the Nightengale bits on Quintana. I will report back. Not all heroes wear capes.
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) I think the pitching styles make Sale a much larger injury risk than Q, and even if injured, Q has a much better chance to regain his effectiveness. Yes, you need to move Q at some point, but there is no rush, let the market convince you to move him. Don't move him now just because you have started the rebuild process, move him when you can net the most talent. Right now your core is pretty spread out: ETA 2017 - Fulmer, Giolito, Lopez, Moncada, Burdi, Tilson, Peter ETA 2018 - Kopech, Collins, Hansen, Adams, Dunning, Fisher, Call, Diaz, Michalzewski ETA 2019 - Basabe,Nunez, (2017 Rnd 1 pick) ETA 2020 - Adolofo, Curbelo, Alfaro I think you can still go out and grab talent at the deadline that would easily fit into that window and along with that have more of a chance to evaluate guys that have a good chance to actually hit their ceilings, especially guys that you are going to be looking at fitting in around 2019. I keep forgetting about this guy and wouldn't mind him coming up and getting at bats at second if Frazier and/or Lawrie are moved (Lawrie moving to third if/when Frazier is dealt). Looks like he's actually played a lot of position over the past couple of years. Maybe we can groom him into versatile everyday player.
  3. QUOTE (FT35 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) Just a quick comp: Player A: 208 innings, 3.20 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 181 K's, Salary, Aprox 5M/yr Player B: 230 innings, 3.99 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 228 K's, Salary $30M/yr Player A is Q, and Player B is David Price. Now...my comp isn't to say that they are so similar--Price is more overpowering...but my point is to take a look at the cost to obtain a true ace of this caliber. The main numbers aren't THAT far apart. Most of Q's value comes in to play when teams can add a TOP of the line pitcher for minimal cost--then still have the $ to go buy a major FA. That's why I think Hahn should hold out on Bregman with Houston or for the top prospect for any other team. Getting Q at his current salary is like having a free David Price--then still being able to go out and buy ANOTHER David Price at market value. Trading for Q enables that 2-fold move--and for teams looking to win now, that's the type of move that puts your team over the top. Moves that put your team over the top these days cost you your top prospect. Kudos to Hahn for not settling--and I don't think he will on Q. With as many years left on his contract and as quiet as he is--Hahn could keep him at this value and have him for when our team is ready to make a run in 2-3 years. Quintana Giolito Rodon Lopez Kopech (Fulmer? Dunning? Burdi? Hensen? They seem to be relievers now, but sometimes that can change). Plus we can add a couple more TOP draft picks in there from what we're likely to have over the next couple of years). That's not a bad starting 5 as a "consequence" for not getting a Quintana deal done. That's almost worth Houston's best interest to break up now while they have the chance! Because if they don't--their window to win is slim--that is until this 5-some starts to come of age. The pressure is certainly more on Houston to get a deal done. They should trade for Q and have him locked up for years, then use their savings to sign Turner/Encarnicion to fill Bregman's spot--and they would still have $ left to add. Just my opinion. Huh? Burdi is definitely a reliever. Whichever other guys can't figure it out as a starter at the big league level will end up in the pen. With a lot of depth too, they can move arms for bats (like prospect for prospect type swaps later on).
  4. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) Rangers also acquired Jeffress along with Lucroy, and when you consider that it does not make the trade look all that bad of Brinson + Ortiz + TBD The return for Quintana should be very similar to Sale given the 4th year of cheap control We received 2 elite prospects in Moncada and Kopech (top 30) + a "B" prospect in Basabe (top 200?) + lottery ticket in Diaz Lets say Kopech and Martes have equal value right now relatively speaking as a second piece The drop off from Moncada to Tucker is considerable, to the point where the third player in the deal would have to be of higher quality than Basabe (Reed/Fisher/Paulino) + a lottery ticket in the bottom of a team's system Teoscar Hernandez reminds me of Luis Basabe, but further along in his development. Houston likely won't want to pay the prospect price it will take to land Q, even if they really should consider it strongly I actually like Teoscar Hernandez myself. If he is in a potential deal, he could easily start at the major league level next year.
  5. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Who is beating out Giolito and Lopez for the #4 and #5 SP spots? Shields and Fulmer? Also, didn't Boston already start Moncada's clock last season? If so, what's the gain to starting him in the minors? Fulmer should also start the season in the minors. Rotation will look something like (without Q trade): Q, Rodon, Gonzalez, Shields, filler starter. But they could also likely deal one of Gonzalez or Q.
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Melky stays with the Sox until the deadline I think. Depending on what happens with Turner, I think Frazier could be traded this off season or at the deadline. Robertson for sure should be traded before the season. Does anyone besides the Dodgers even have interest in Turner?
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 10:17 AM) Why do I know who Jackson Reetz is again? I had to Google his name because, like you, I had no idea why I knew that name lol
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) I don't see how anyone can come to any conclusion that Tim Anderson won't be a decent hitter based on where he is in his career and 2016 numbers. TBH, his numbers were a lot better than I thought they would be. Sure, he could be a guy like Avi who had a nice run with the bat but it wasn't sustainable, or he could be a guy that develops. If his walk and k rate remain the same, Fangraphs has a point. If he adjusts, it's silly talk. I do agree that he did better than I thought that he would do. Hopefully he develops some patience at the plate and continues improving defensively.
  9. Do you guys see him as the leadoff hitter for next season? Or maybe a competition with Tilson?
  10. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:20 AM) Seth 'Duffman' Beer I love that.
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) Gotta have 3 yrs of college, unless it is a JC. He has played one year, so he can be drafted in 2018. Gotcha. Thanks. #beerme
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:29 AM) http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_...freshman-phenom How come he isn't eligible to be in the draft next year? I'm not disappointed (since we pick 11) just curious.
  13. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) Whenever I hear Eric Thames, I keep thinking of Marcus.... Marcus played for DET, Eric played for TOR. Dude, you and me both.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) He's home right now doing bong hits after spending the last 96 hours nonstop with KW. He's calling the suicide hotline number more like it.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) What's laughable is you think all those people who come to games with their White Sox swag on really aren't there for the game, they are there to be entertained by something else. The game may be icing on the cake. Bizarre. Exactly. A day/night out with some friends who just like the team casually. Do some tailgating beforehand, grab some beers inside, catch up with people for a while. One of my groups of friends I associate myself with do this a couple times a year and then I don't see them again due to being busy lol but I do have other friends that are die-hard like myself that I enjoy going to games with for the games and players with.
  16. Evan Gattis was even better than our guys lol #bringbackhectorsanchez
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) You said they aren't there for the game. Here's the reality, the vast majority of people at a baseball game aren't there for the game. That's your quote. So why would winning be fun? BTW, Sox games can be really cheap. Like cheaper than the Schaumburg Boomers if you go on Sunday. Weekdays too. They let fans down in the lower level if expected attendance is under 25,000. So pay $7 for outfield corners and then just sit anywhere you seat empty seats. Too many times past few years I've bought $7 tickets only to end up behind the dugout.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:30 PM) Look, nobody likes a loser. Nobody's going to go to the ballpark to see a last-place team. I mean some folks who love prospects will go, maybe a couple thousand die hards, but considering how much it costs to go to a game, once the Sox are buried in the standings the Cell will be a morgue. If the rebuild works and someday they start winning, of course the fans will return. But if the Sox suck next season and are 8 out on May 1, forget it. The park will be empty and those who love prospects will be able to spread out and watch games in comfort. The park will be empty. I still plan on enjoying a Friday night game after work (take the Metra to the ballpark from the city) or a Saturday day or night game throughout the season. Something to do and cheap. I was on a solid pace of one game every home weekend last season so that will likely continue next year.
  19. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) Anyone know what Rick Hanh is up to today? Is he on the phone making deal, or is he busy toying with the sacks he took from Rizzo yesterday? I assume he's on a plane currently heading to wherever he resides. And then gets back to his phone.
  20. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) "closer Todd Frazier". Did they want Frazier or Robertson? Also, I don't know why this wasn't done to get them to include Robles and a couple decent lottery tickets if it was Robertson. I assume Robertson.
  21. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 1m1 minute ago The #Nationals tried to get #WhiteSox to expand the Adam Eaton trade to include closer David Robertson, but Sox refused, will deal separately Good. Stick to your guns the rest of the off-season, Hahn.
  22. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Anybody think we would kick $ in to move a Robertson trade along? I know JR doesn't typically do that, but I think it would probably drum up more interest. I know his contract isn't a killer compared to what the open market is right now, but it definitely does come with risk given that he hasn't exactly been great. I just feel like a team would be more willing to give up something decent if they were getting Robertson at say 2/$18M I hope so.
  23. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) Yeah, I have that same smidge of disappointment that what was supposed to an "unprecedented haul" ended up a tad smaller than hoped. One more significant piece like Devers could have offset that a little. Still in all, a good trade with a great headliner. Agreed. Felt like it was a piece off. But combined with the Eaton deal, great hauls so far.
  24. What about Christian Villanueva if Frazier gets dealt? He was non-tendered I believe. Edit: I see he missed all of last year with an ankle injury but a minor league deal doesn't hurt.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) I look at it like this. Will the Sox suck next year? Yes. Will they suck the year after that? Probably. The year after? Maybe. But how is that any different than the past 8 years? It's been almost a decade since the Sox made the playoffs. I'm much more optimistic about the Sox now than I was 72 hours ago. The prospects might bust, but at least they tried something new and picked a direction. I can't fault them for that. I'd rather watch a 55 win team with young potential than the same 75 win team year after year that never gets any better because they constantly acquire old, declining talent.. Pretty spot on. We at least have hope.
