I’m not saying Lackey will be anywhere near these guys, but Harper and Schwarber were both originally catchers who got moved to the outfield shortly into their professional careers. There are probably other examples as well. It’s happened before. That said, I’d just take Roch and be done with it.

Yes I would. I think there is a valid argument that they would be better off trading him for a SP, but Miller is just so good and would secure the closer spot for years to come. I think Bonemer is a great talent but with Roch/Emerson coming, I don’t view him as untouchable.

It might be a hot take, but I’d trade any prospect in the system for Mason Miller. I know people will say giving up a massive haul for a reliever is a risk, but he’s automatic and has 3.5 years of control. He’s a massive difference maker.

So is this game getting played or not?

Good assessment here. Based on Murphy’s emergence and even Eisert being serviceable at times, I think it’s clear that a right handed leverage reliever is the biggest bullpen need. I don’t trust any other right hander in this unit besides Taylor. If they want to circle back to Boston, a Sonny Gray + Garrett Whitlock package makes a ton of sense.

Clunker inning for McDougal but he’s probably shaking off rust so whatever.

They probably don’t want him catching tonight, but Venable has no idea how to manage within the game.

I have no idea how this bullpen is going to cover 5 innings tonight. I’d assume Dominguez and Hudson will be available, but that leaves 3 innings to cover. Maybe Trevor Richards.

I have my eye on Franchel Crisostomo. His 17.69 ERA is sure to come down any day now.

As inconsistent as he is, using Eisert over him was completely mind boggling.

I’ve seen Roch compared to Tulowitzki and Correa. If that’s what he ends up being, that’s a damn good player.

With the Padres sputtering, I keep thinking about Mason Miller. I’d have to imagine that would cost Bonemer though if they are even willing to trade him at all.

Then why did Joe Rock ever get called up? His walk rate is even worse than Peoples.

The problem is that I don’t think there are any top end SP in this upcoming class besides Skubal. Freddy Peralta is probably the second best option after Skubal and I don’t consider him a true #1.

The thought of 3 playoff runs with Webb is very intriguing. That said, he’s one of the very few guys I’d be willing to trade Bonemer for.

This entire game has felt like a slog. No energy after the first couple innings.

I’m leaning more and more on the Wacha train after seeing him pitch against the Sox. Reasonable contract for next year and can eat innings. Not the highest upside option, but would still be useful.
