Ohtani Watch: Dodgers sign - 700M over 10yrs
Highland replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
By this time, I don't give a crap where Ohtani goes. -
In the early days of ownership, JR said he needed increased money streams from media sources. He eventually got them. He said he needed a new stadium. He got it. Of course, that stadium had to have sky boxes. He got them. He said he needed all these things to if he was to compete. So, why isn't he competing? There is no way that any government entity should cave and finance a second stadium. One World Series in 42 going on 43 years stinks. Right now, this franchise is in the worst shape since the early 1970s. I have little faith things will get better soon. Filling the roster with placeholders isn't going to get it. Threatening a move to Nashville? What are we going to miss?

Probably doesn't mean anything, but fans and just about everyone else should not give into any manipulations by JR. He should be concentrating more on making the White Sox a major league team because it isn't right now. If it hasn't dawned on him, the FO staked its reputation on this rebuild, and it failed.
-
I have no expectations about this offseason. 2024 is another 100-loss season.
-
Greg Norton. His uniform was always dirty because he always busted his ass. Britt Burns. Pitched the game of his life in the 1983 playoffs and still lost. That was one of the biggest clutch performances I have ever seen.
-
David Wells. Expected Sox fans to worship the ground he walked on when he came to Chicago. Turned out to be an out-of-shape fat ass with a big mouth. 5 wins he got. Hell, any skinny guy can do that and not look so ugly.

Hemond was one of the best Sox GMs. Came along just at the right time. He knew how to make a trade and built the 1983 Winning Ugly team.

House of L Podcast - Why Be A Sox Fan?
Highland replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is so true. The sad thing about the White Sox is that it could have been turned into a great franchise. But that opportunity was blown and now look at it. -
I am not in the mood to "pony up." The political and economic conditions that affect major league creates a situation where winning or losing doesn't matter and public opinion matters less. Fans are constantly lectured about being loyal and are told to attend games no matter how bad a team is. But, for a long time, the average fan has mattered less and less. Funding comes from different sources and so who cares about the fan who goes to three to five games a year? I am not looking forward to the 2024 season. The White Sox have done next to nothing since winning the World Series. And they have shown they don't have to.

The latest Garfien Podcast: What is a "Spa Day"?
Highland replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Players need rest at times, and that's okay as long as it's not abused. In the end, a player should want to be on the field. But he shouldn't be on the field if he is swinging the bat with one hand. -
I'm not listening to anything to Getz says at this point, and that really has nothing to do with him. Been a fan for a long time and been through countless rebuilding programs. They usually produce limited short-term results and long-term BS. Just tired of hearing all the nonsense. Results are what is important. Talk means nothing.

We will survive the Benetti thing, but it gives me one more reason not to have faith in this organization. Benetti had a right to be ambitious. This was just another dumb Sox move.

AJ would be a good color man, but he is too outspoken. He certainly wouldn't allow himself to be a JR spokesman like Stone turned himself into. I think Jason was likable and learning more about the game as he went along. I wonder what the booth is going to be like now.
-
I know Jason could be corny, but I think he was truly growing in the job. I'll miss him. I won't miss Steve if he doesn't return.
-
So, the Cubs have hired Counsell. Who have the Sox hired in the past? Bevington, Ventura, an old LaRussa, Grifol. Seems like to me that one team is actually trying to win. As opposed to the other.
-
All this discussion about a guy who hit one home run last year. One crappy home run. Maybe his can double his output in 2024 and hit two. Maybe he can hit in the face twice, too.
-
My mood will change depending on the off season. I am wondering how they are going to put a team together for 2024 since everyone seems to be leaving. 2024 will be another losing season. Don't know what the long-term future will be.
-
If the Sox are not trying to re-sign TA at a cheap price, this is a good move, and maybe the FO isn't as bad as thought. Tim needs to move on, and the FO can't worry if he has a good year somewhere else. Make the move, don't look back, and get this team on track.

2024 Offseason Plan - "Try" to Compete Edition
Highland replied to ChiSox59's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've never seen a Sox team in a position like this. Anything can be an improvement, but no one can predict when and if this team can turn things around. Money has to be spent, a lot of money has to be spent, and that is not likely. -
Even if TA has a good year in 2024, I don't think he will ever return to his old self. I only wonder what the plans are for short stop. But hoping that Anderson gets it together again is a waste of time.
-
We don't need rankings to tell us this team won't be seriously contending for anything in 2024. Too many things would have to go right, and that hasn't happened much lately.
-
Glad to see the Rangers win. 84 game winners don't belong in the World Series. The better team rightfully won. Playoffs are way too long because of stupid wild cards. Just think: If by some miracle the Series were being played in Chicago, they would be playing in winter-like conditions. Yes, let's play baseball in the beginning of November.
-
I'm all for giving someone a chance, but I don't have big expectations. I just hope he does more this off season than Hahn did with the last.
