I don't know what is going to happen, but this organization can't sit on its hands and do nothing. There has to be some kind of action, or fans will have absolutely no reason to go to the ballpark. If the FO doesn't care, why should we?

I beg to differ. We do know. But if we say it too often, that will mean we are not good White Sox fans.

7/12 GT Gm 1 @NoonCT: Sox play 2 today, if you care
Highland replied to ChiSox59's topic in 2022 Season in Review
I don't even know if this team is a .500 club. They didn't play all that well against the Giants. San Francisco gave them those three games. 3-6 so far during this run against division opponents. Everybody is talking about an upcoming weak schedule. Those teams are no doubt looking forward to playing the White Sox. -
7/12 GT Gm 1 @NoonCT: Sox play 2 today, if you care

It would be nice, but sweeping a doubleheader is always hard. Losing the first game hurts, because the Sox can't win the series unless they do sweep today. Split the DH and split the series is probably our best hope. -
He also wasn't pitching for some of that period. Don't; worry, he can make up for lost time.

This is what I'm selling. Fire LaRussa, fire Hahn. fire KW. Then have the Sox Board of Directors come out of their nursing homes and fire JR. Then have a real rebuild.
-
I remember some being surprised by the LaRussa hire. In reality, it was not surprising in the least. Hire some crony because it makes JR feel good. Like the Ventura move. That hire was interesting - for about a day. Then when a person truly thinks about it, there is the realization of how stupid it is. For five years, Ventura walked around the dugout with an empty look on his face. And, of course, once he left, no team came knocking on his door. He has been long gone, and his Sox legacy is ruined. And now LaRussa. He certainly won't be remembered for the 1983 WInnin Ugly team. My god, what a joke. But don't worry, the team morale is just great.

Glad you spoke up, Liam. Now, stop giving up homers in the ninth inning.

Yes, they could be in first. A win against the Guardians, maybe one or two against the Twins, they're in first or closer to it than they are now. Remember, they're not chasing the Yankees or Astros. Yes, I know a team looks lifeless when it is not scoring. But, in general, there is a nothingness about this team. I am one that thinks that chemistry is important. That doesn't mean everyone loves everyone. But it would help if players weren't playing out of position, and it would also help if their manager didn't slur words at press conferences. Players are not machines. Distractions and other worries can affect play. And please. Don't tell me about the injuries. Injuries don't keep players from running the bases with some intelligence. Regardless, it's time to step up. No more dumb ass excuses.

At least Lynn has some fire in him. I didn't see the triple play, and I refused to watch any replays. But it had to be embarrassing like so many embarrassing baserunning gaffes the Sox have had this season. The Sox tried to get swept by the Orioles but just couldn't manage doing it. It wasn't encouraging to see the Sox struggle to get a split with the Tigers. I do wonder about the motive of anyone talking to Nightengale about this. If Tony is the source, this would be another one of the stupid things he has done the last season and a half. Whatever is going on, there is something missing about this team. Even with the injuries, the Sox should be in first. There are times when they just look lifeless.
-
I don't have a good feeling about this stretch since it seems like the Sox never play well in Cleveland and Minnesota. It is time for them to show they are the best team in the division. It had been assumed the White Sox would coast to a division crown. Obviously, that is not happening.

I thought it was laughable when Ozzie was asking for a four-year extension as the 2011 season was ending. Of course, that was what the Marlins were offering, and he thought he should get the same from the White Sox. The fact is he should have been fired when he mouthed off about Sox fans urinating on the statues in the outfield concourse. When LaRussa finally leaves, the replacement should have no prior connection to the White Sox and that really means Ozzie.

Dylan Cease screwed out of All-Star spot
Highland replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know it would have been a great honor for Cease, but I'd rather see him get the rest. It would be the Sox luck if Cease got a line drive in the face in a meaningless game. -
I thought I had seen at least two "turning points" in the season. I saw hope when they almost overcame a 6-0 lead in the ninth inning against the Angels. I also thought that when they played well against the Yankees in New York. There have been no turning points. They need to play consistently, and they have not shown they can do that yet. They should win the division, but that doesn't mean they will.
-
The Sox should win today and tomorrow because they are the better team. Perhaps someone should tell them that, or maybe they should start believing it.
-
Regarding his post-game press conferences: If I was in the FO, I'd be embarrassed. Here is a guy who publicly representing your organization and he can barely get his words out. And here is your post-game showing this stuff on every show. If not embarrassed, I'd be concerned. Is there something physically wrong? But the Sox just go on and on and pretend nothing is wrong. Yes, it's the fans. But this is what happens when you hire a friend.
-
17 years is a long time, and the Sox have won a grand total of three post season games since then. And, of course, they lost every post season series since then. 2025 is just around the corner, and it will be 20 years since this team has appeared in a World Series. And JR and the same front office will still be running the team and they still will be making the same mistakes. But he'll tell you he really wants to win.
-
I'm old enough to remember this, too, although it is something I'd like to forget, like this season.
-
No, you can't, and the state of denial will continue. The FO can lash out at fans, but the team is under .500 at the season's mid-point, and there is no denying that. No, no one tells JR what to do no matter how many stupid things he does.
-
LaRussa was fired at mid-season, but that was more Hawk than JR. In fact, one condition that Hawk to be hired as GM was that he had to keep LaRussa. Regardless, the LaRussa firing was handled as bad as it could have been handled. If Hawk was going to be GM, he should have been able to pick his own manager in the beginning. Right now, there is no one to challenge JR. The ship is sinking, but the yes-men are circling the wagons and pretending nothing is wrong. The FO puts its reputation on the line with the rebuild, and it isn't working. The future doesn't look so bright. So, yes, the whole LaRussa thing in 1986 is one reason we are in this current position.
-
I think Frank is right. I've noticed Abreu winching when in his position at first. Yet, he leads the Sox in homers. What does that say?
-
Right now, I don't have the high expectations of a sweep. I'd like to see some good defense, no running gaffes, and getting runners in from third with less than two outs. Then we can go from there. Sweeping any major league team in four games is hard, even when that team is bad. And it is hard for a team under .500 to do that.

That's a White Sox Quadruple Come Back Winner !!
Highland replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Face saving win. Shows how this offense can be when Eloy and Luis are clicking at the same time. Eloy made a good defensive play, too. -
1969 was not a disappointment for me, but it is something Cub fans of that generation never got over. They didn't just think their team was great, they thought it was the greatest of all time. They had their entire infield on the All-Star team. Ken Holtzman threw a no-hitter. Everyone seemed to be having a career year. Then they lost it to a lesser team. Should the 2022 team rank that high as a disappointment, or did we just over-estimate them?
-
Let's hope you are right. But what ex-Sox player will be named as manager?
