And That's a White Sox Winner !!!!
Highland replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Nice win and a clutch bomb from Burger. However, because of continued high pitch counts, Cease is beginning to look like a five-inning pitcher. The 8th inning was nerve-wracking, but the bullpen did a good job. -
The Trumps will do to the Sox what they did to the country: Run the team into the ground.

Making the playoffs is always better than sitting things out in October. But the Sox record in the post season other than in 2005, is 6-18 and they have lost every series. And losing 10-1 in an elimination game truly sucks. And losing in an elimination game because you can't score one run in the regulation nine innings sucks, too. If the Sox do make the post-season this year, I hope we don't experience shit like this.

This exact article could be written about White Sox situation

I've been a Sox fan for a hell of a long time and have seen many low points with this team. This is one of the lowest, maybe the lowest in the last 50 years. I don't think that much can be done in the short term. Trades are hard to make even under the best circumstances, and right now the team has little leverage. You can only hope that injured players play well when they return. The current disappointment of this team is symbolic of the how it is run. Starting with the insane way of hiring a manager, things are done in the same old way. I have little faith in things getting better. Most other teams would have fired the manager by now. That doesn't solve everything by a long shot, but sometimes change like this sometimes is a catalyst for other things. But then again, most other teams would never have hired LaRussa in the first place. Instead, they would have done a wide search for an important hire like this. The White Sox did nothing like that. They chose to hire a pal. I don't know if anyone in the organization sees how bad things are now. If the Sox finish under .500, you are going to alienate an already diminishing fan base. But maybe they don't care about that. -
More importantly, where is Jerry Reinsdorf? For a long time, he has refused to do interviews because he doesn't trust the press. Instead, he had Hawk and Farmer be his spokesmen. Who is his spokesman now? Stone? I wouldn't expect much from a JR interview. But perhaps he could do a little segment with Chuck Garfien and take some softball questions. All I would want to see is a lucid man who can still think clearly and was not letting old age impair him. Right now, being reclusive just feeds imaginations, and that is not good. I really don't care if KW or Hahn talk to the media. They will just give the company line. Actions mean more, and I am wondering what can be done to right this ship. However, if the Sox go on to have a truly disappointing season, the FO will have to answer for it one way or another. One result may be a nearly empty stadium.

In the first, Grandal took a 3-2 pitch for strike three with the bases loaded. Now, the pitch was a slider and he may have been looking for a fast ball. But he fumed about the call. Fact remains it was close enough for him to take a swing at in that situation. Is there any reason an ump should give the benefit of the doubt to a hitter with an average under .200? Grandal should have been looking to make a big play. Instead, he looked for a walk. He has hit one homer since the opening series against the Tigers. He is contributing nothing right now.

I agree with this. The White Sox would be a good investment for someone who has some real ambition. The stadium is over 30 years old but is in good shape. And there are ways to build a deeper and wider fan base. It just hasn't been done recently.

This team should win the division considering everything. However. the Sox just don't play fundamentally sound baseball. In addition, they have a manager half asleep in the dugout. I see mismanagement everywhere. What they should do, and what they will do, can be two totally different things.
-
I don't think there is any maybe to it.
-
It is insane except for the fact that I can't see JR making a major change in the front office. And if he did, he just hire someone from within that would not do anyone any good.
-
This about sums it up. The White Sox have a chance because the division is so bad. That isn't really saying much.

Anderson is the last person the Sox can lose for any period of time. In addition, I don't have too much confidence in Eloy coming back soon. Lynn will need time to get in the groove, and it may not be until July when he starts to get back to normal. Then there is Moncada and Robert. Yes, things look bleak right now even with the bad division.
-
Now this is amazing. Truly amazing.
-
Happy with the win, but this team sure has some problems. Game should have never gone into extras.
-
Yes, it will take some time to work, but it would be right for the franchise in the long run. Constant tearing down and rebuilding is not the solution without solid leadership. If the the team loses the confidence of its most loyal fans, how will it bring the less die-hard to the ball park?
-
Lynn should help, but I don't have much faith in Eloy right now. I will have to see it to believe it.

In any other corporate situation, steps would be taken to oust the CEO when things go bad. But JR has controlling interest of the stock, and the board is old and infirm anyway. As I have said before, other board members stopped caring a long time ago. What should happen is that a good and experienced baseball man should come in and take control. He should hire his own manager and coaching staff. Then he should do an extensive analysis of the organization and then make appropriate changes. And he must have no past ties to the White Sox. Of course, this won't happen. But short-term changes will not turn the club around. Things have to be done differently for the simple reason past practices have shown things just haven't worked. Firing LaRussa would help, but a lot more has to be done or this rebuild will fail big time. Then what will they do? Another tank job?

I am sure the Twins will land on earth soon. And beating the Twins is much more important than beating the low-life Cubs.
-
I will say yes although I have big doubts about their success once they get there.
-
I am convinced that Moncada is hurting more than he wants to let on. I am with everyone else. Harrison batting second is crazy.
-
Hopefully, this is a sign that FO realize that changes need to be made, and that they can't wait. Getting two innings out of Keuchel every five days wasn't cutting it.
-
I have to admit you have a point there. I guess it would be nice to beat the Cubs into submission.
