  • Guys...I feel like losing Quintana would hurt the most. What is everyone's thoughts on keeping him? Maybe he can be the Ace of the next good Sox team.

  • http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/2123...white-sox-talk/   Official site of the Yankees reporting that the earlier reports of Robertson being included in trade talks was false.

They just signed Daniel Hudson to a 2/11M contract like three days ago. I doubt the Pirates are truly that desperate to dump salary.

They also signed Nova the other day

Yeah, that seems truly harsh. THey also just signed Nova, who is about 8 million, so 14 million in two days.

They traded two solid prospects to the Blue Jays last year to absorb Liriano's $17M contract. I would not be surprised in the least if they were up against a hard budget right now.

I guess I'm crazy, but if Rutherford/Newman are in the return, we very may have acquired 4 top 100 hitting prospects, or at the very least 3 potential top 50 hitting prospects and a top 150.

bmags, do you have some current info on Newman? I read something that seemed to indicate a light hitting SS with limited power?? How would he compare with the SS the Cubs shipped to the yanks? Thanks.

So this goes back to the "who is worth more." It looks like they made those moves with the plan of trading McCutchen.

Would you rather have:

Hudson

Nova

Quintana

Meadows in CF

or

McCutchen

Really wanted the Sox to get Hudson back.

Hopefully the Sox can do something to get Meadows in the deal, who I've always been big on, although I understand how unlikely that it.

Is Meadows really ready? I just think if your Pittsburgh, your chances to win have been so few and far between, risking losing $6 or $7 million on a season (assuming right now they are OK financially at break even) is a small price to pay to take your shot. You never really know when you might have one again.

Their fanbase is beaten down. At their fan fest someone got into it with their owner about winning vs. making profit. They are pretty much like cynical Sox fans at this point thinking the team is unwilling to take the final necessary step. I would imagine a trade for Q even though he is not a matinee idol player, would generate some ticket sales due to people thinking maybe the Pittsburgh FO has changed its MO.

I agree. i'm just saying that appears to be the way the pirates are going.

Hard enough to analyze the Sox...don't ask me to critique the Buccos.

I just think operating like they are operating isn't going to lead to wins. It's as half assed as anything the White Sox have done.

I'm no prospect expert. And Gleybar Torres is certainly superior, as he does have average power.

But Newman, while little power, has plus contact skills and an advanced batting eye. You just dont' see amateurs have stats like more walks than strikeouts at young ages. He also still had 35 doubles last year.

70 hit tool, very good, average speed, average defense. I have nothing to know if his average defense will improve.

Heard there isn't much to it. Was told Yankees haven't been involved with White Sox on Quintana trade in a while. We'll see.

As far as the punching thing, I don't even remember saying that but I'm sure I did. I'd advise you to not take things literally though. I read a handful of your posts and like I said, pinpointed

And I'm not an internet tough guy. I'm as self deprecating as they come. I laugh at myself as much as anyone. I'm an idiot. All of that I admit. But I'll be the first to defend myself when people are talking s*** about me on internet forums

You are wasting way too much time caring about what he thinks and posts. This is red meat for him.

Starting to wonder if the NY team is the Mets, not Yanks. A three way between the Sox, Mets and Pirates makes much more sense and would account for the lag to due so many moving parts. Something along the lines of the Mets getting Cutch/Roberson, Pirates get Q, Sox get Glasnow, Bell, Nimmo, Newman and or Keller.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 01:14 PM)
Hey that's kind of an interesting thought about Glasnow going to NYY.

If that freed up some of the corresponding level of top hitters from the Yankees, I am all for it.

Which is saying a lot!

Is there any scenario wherein the White Sox take back McCutchen?

Or is this more like the Pirates won't move their top bats, but the Yankees have an excess, so we're getting the Yankees involved in Glasnow to get the likes of Rutherford and Andujar back?

He is a guy I would bet on for a bounce back, but the timing isn't right IMO.

Can anyone summarize?

I mean, my main takeaway was the three way may have cooled but Pirates still very aggressive on deal to get done.
