January 28, 20197 yr Gregor now saying they won’t go above 300, but nothing about AAV https://www.dailyherald.com/amp-article/20190127/sports/190129132/?__twitter_impression=true

It pretty much aligns with everything that has been reported about the Sox. There has never been a rumor close to 300

There has never been a rumor close to 300 We *know* Harper turned down 10/300 from the Nationals at the beginning of this off-season. If 10/300 is a make or break offer for Harper/Machado and the Sox aren't willing to pull the trigger, then they were never seriously interested in either player in the first place.

If you can get Manny for 8/270, why bother spending 10/326. That doesn't mean Sox wont pay more to play on Harper since he adds a ton of marketing value, but if you can get the guy that is a better fit for your team with a better WaR for cheaper...that's smart FO work

January 28, 20197 yr Manny and Bryce are quickly becoming my least favorite Sox. Sign somewhere, anywhere. I'm getting tired of checking this thread every few hours.

Nice Post. I'd go a step further and say that if they weren't willing to go at least 10/330 they were never serious.
January 28, 20197 yr I think I am officially tapping out of the Manny watch. It’s obvious there isn’t any real substance to the rumors that we have been seeing go back and forth and we will only know when it breaks from the big boys that he has signed somewhere.
January 28, 20197 yr What if the Sox have always said they will go after Manny at their price and the market has just fallen into their laps? Edited January 28, 20197 yr by Orlando

January 28, 20197 yr 2. Manny Machado to the Cardinals Why the heck not? Doesn't every owner have to be looking at his depth chart and thinking, "What would Machado and Harper do for us? What would one of them mean in terms of revenues, tickets, television ratings, etc.?" Sure, it's a huge investment and a scary one. On the other hand, how often does a 26-year-old infielder coming off a .905 OPS/146 OPS+/6.2 Wins Above Replacementseason hit the market? Here's guessing the Cardinals -- in a tight NL Central race with the Cubs and Brewers -- are at least considering the possibility. FanGraphs projects them to win 86 games, one fewer than the Cubs. Machado -- or Harper -- would change that. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-moves-that-could-change-division-races/c-303223604 7 moves that would shake up MLB

January 28, 20197 yr Just now, Orlando said: Those quotes don't inspire much optimism. No Hahn, if you don't get Machado, IDC what "others on the outside say" this was a weak off season. Yeah if you don’t land Manny or Harper, the moves they made would make no sense (especially Alonso) and look like a giant waste of money. Herrera looks to be an overpay.
January 28, 20197 yr This really annoys me. You traded for Manny's brother in law that didn't fit the depth chart and help a division rival shed salary. You over paid for his best friend coming off of a down year. You traded a young catcher for a 2 year reliever and replaced him with James Mccan. You traded for an average at best 5th starter. You paid Kelvin Herrera a very comparable annual salary to Ottavino. No Hahn, without Machado this wasn't a good offseason by any stretch of the imagination. And guess what Hahn? Until the White Sox get with the times and give a 100+ contract to someone, there wont be a parade. Edited January 28, 20197 yr by Orlando
