Reportedly being non-tendered by the Cubs as it stands. Cue meatballness.

Then we DFA you for not being loyal.

  • Can always count on Soxtalk for a discussion that starts at "Should the Sox sign Schwarber" and veers into "yea well Thome sucks against LHP anyways"

This makes no sense. His primary worth on offense is standing like a statute and drawing walks, secondary is for the times he does swing he connects enough times to hit home runs. He is third on the t

Hawk voice: "Where would he play?"

Oh jeez. A Schwarber thread? Really? May as well just concede the possibility of signing anyone good at this point, LOL.

Came here to check if there was a Schwarber thread... leaving satisfied.

I'd love to take a shot on him if we didn't already have so many DHs.  I think he will get a lot of interest, especially with the DH probably coming back to the NL next year.

I see him being a Yankee DH

We all remember when Babe Fucking Ruth got non-tendered after his dismal 1925 season where he hit under .300, right?

Yankees are my pick

Unless the Sox feel Vaughn isn't ready.. and even if that, I'd rather go after Brantley at DH and to spell Eloy (even though Schwarber has the best walkup song).

This f$cker is going to rake in October in the Bronx

I'd rather have a player who can better consistently field.

Schwarber struggled (comically, at times) in LF.  Is there any thought he could play an even somewhat effective RF?

Robert would be running his ass off, and probably getting hurt, with Eloy in one corner and Schwarber in the other.

However, Schwarber could deposit quite a few baseballs onto the Goose Island.

This man is an inspiration for us all.

Reasons to consider:

Gives Vaughn an unpressurized timeline to play in AAA, allows depth in LF, gives a decent bat and an okay price.

Reasons to pass:

He can't play RF, he's really not that good (aka I think you can find poor defense, .230BA and 25-35 HR in a lot of places), he doesn't have a home here, he doesn't make the team better.

An outfield or Eloy and Schwarb?? Yikes.. the meltdowns would be epic though..

Keep in mind.....Adam Engel would play 60-80 games in right and Schwarber can DH as needed. Adam would be a late game replacement.

I'm in for Schwarber

But he’s not even a good bat.  He’s going to play his whole career and may not even reach 10 bWAR.

Schwarber is much better defensively than eloy...which is saying something about how bad eloy is defensively

While this is true...Isn't Schwarber comically bad a t fielding too?

Schwarber as a DH placeholder until Vaughn is ready makes sense for the Sox in 2021.

-LH Bat

-Can play LF a couple times a week or everyday when Eloy hits the IL. (Quite frankly he's a better LF than Eloy but the Sox want to give Eloy the reps out there)

-No guarantee that Vaughn will be ready to be in the everyday lineup this year.

Schwarber is not a perfect option but he does make sense on a cheap 1-year deal.  If Vaughn is ready and mashing at the MLB level, Schwarber will be expendable. But if Vaughn isn't ready to be hitting everyday for a team that expects to be in the World Series, there are worse DH options than Schwarber on a 1-year deal.

I'm fine with it.

I'm not saying he's option #1, but I'm curious who you think should be DH next season?

Ideally it's Vaughn, but that's no guarantee. Although I will say I am optimistic Vaughn will be a productive hitter in 2021.

Anyone who is a better OF option, and there's quite a few.
