He’s potentially back by August which would be amazing.

IMO try to trade Grandal for Blackmon, kicking in a lower-end prospect or two if necessary due to the amount remaining on Grandal's deal.  It's some immediate salary relief for COL.  Or maybe Grandal

  • I'm going to take the Jack Parkman approach and assume that Eloy is actually out for three years now.

This makes more sense. 3 months was too aggressive.

Eloy is going to be back this season in time for our playoff run.  Book it.

Just read a Yankees fan site that suggested we acquire Tauchman from them — for Codi Heuer and Benyamin Bailey.  Vaughn is looking pretty good out there by comparison.

Yeah, this would be "holy shit" bad.

Trading for a 30 year old replacement level player would be bad. I believe that Cody Heuer's floor is as a solid MLB middle reliever, while his ceiling is as a MLB-average closer. The latter of which is but one reason out of many why I disagreed with buying a closer this offseason. To trade away Heuer+ for a 30 year old mediocrity would be really, really bad.

The sad thing is that given this FO's history, it wouldn't surprise me if they did something this stupid. [I just hope I haven't jinxed this...]

Is there a sportsbook where I can bet Hahn saying: "In some ways, Eloy is our trade deadline acquisition, and a pretty significant one at that" after 7/31 cause I'd hammer that even if it was -1000

That narrative was already going around on White Sox twitter and it made my head feel like it was about to explode. But that quote is 100% happening, you're absolutely right.

Over/under 3.5 articles from NBC Sports Chicago praising the White Sox for "standing pat" in July despite being tied with Minnesota because Eloy is all they need

Followed by Steve Stone effusively praising Reinsdorf for his commitment to winning after picking up yet another Jarrod Dyson type trade deadline acquisition, followed by more potshots at Ricky Renteria (it's Ricky Renteria's salary that is preventing the team to do more) and of course trolling human beings actually interested in White Sox baseball.

You can throw Bruce Levine, Bob Nightengale and Chuck Garfien into the "Bow before Dear Leader" eternal chorus.

Yeah I mean are we really believing anything this Hector Gomez guy says at this point? I’ll be happy if we can get Eloy back by late August to get AB’s in before the playoffs..assuming the Sox make it

At this point, if you believe what this guy says, then let me hold the football for you while you run up and kick it.

Hahn said the timeline hasn't changed, though he left the door open for Jimenez to return sooner.

"There's a chance, certainly, that he beats that traditional time frame for this type of injury of five to six months," he said. "But quite candidly, no one's going to know that for at least 12 weeks until he's completed the healing process and the rehabilitation side of this injury."

Surgery completed.

Excuse me if this was discussed earlier but how late in the season can a player be on the roster and sill be included on the playoff roster? Also wouldnt Eloy need to do a minor league stint for at least a few wk but the minors are done approx Sept 1 correct?

Because Eloy is on the White Sox's injured list, he could be activated at any point and still be eligible for the playoffs. He could be activated after the Wild Card round and still be eligible for an ALDS. They would need an open 40 man roster spot to activate him at that point.

In theory yes you would like to give this player a significant minor league stint after this injury, at least several games long. However, if the minor leagues are over by that point, they will find enough action for him somewhere to get ready - that's what happened famously with Kyle Schwarber, for example.

So if he's healthy, they will do what they can to get him back into the lineup. Whether or not he can be effective in that scenario is unknown. However, I will note that if Charlotte makes the AAA playoffs in early September, having Eloy come back in the AAA playoffs for a few games is a fun little cheat code.

Did you see the performance of the minor league pitchers in Spring Training???

The minors are not done September 1.  Starting late, finishing late.

The 2021 minor league season ends on 9/21. However the AAA season starts a month late so the AAA teams will only play 142 games

They have never played 154 or 162 games in the minors.

It has always been April through late August, playoffs in September (obviously different for short-season leagues.)

Well, there's always the chance that Jimenez could get at-bats for Birmingham, Winston-Salem, etc.  Would prefer something more challenging than Low A, although even mashing there to get his confidence back quickly wouldn't be the worst outcome, obviously.

The White Sox did this and now RIP Eloy is trending.

I hate that their basically honoring him for an injury that he caused and thus hurt the team in the process. No accountability.

really?

Agree. All 90 MiLB clubs across Double-A, High-A and Low-A are scheduled to launch their 2021 campaigns on Tuesday, May 4. The Triple-A regular season will total 142 games, while Double-A, High-A and Low-A leagues will include 120 regular season contests.
