Phew, now that we have a thread not started by @Chicago White Sox we may have a chance

What happened to yesterdays game thread?  What happened with Madrigal's steal?  He was safe but we didn't challenge?  Was his throw really bad or just a hard play?  FILL ME IN!

Madrigal was called out to end the 7th inning.

The play was close, but several people on one replay said that the tag probably got his shirt. So, maybe a 1% chance the call gets overturned, but still ? should have been challenged.

The replay booth did not get a note to LaRussa saying that they should challenge in time.

Tony LaRussa was not either paying enough attention to the game or did not know the rules well enough to know that the challenges go away in the 8th inning. This, there was zero downside to challenging and it should have been done, there’s nothing to save it for!!!

This probably didn’t cost the game, but a slightly better chance of a RISP with Anderson up might have still given a chance at an insurance run.

Although they couldn’t figure out the replay system in Arizona, the White Sox excuse machine was in high gear, as LaRussa informed the press after the game that they didn’t get the review notice down in time because they lowered the time to 20 seconds this year rather than 30 last year. Of course, this should not have mattered because LaRussa should have been paying attention to the game anyway, they had 6 weeks in Arizona to practice this and screwed it up the first time, and “this is tougher than it was last year” is an exceptionally odd excuse coming from a guy who wasn’t coaching last year.

It didn’t cost the game, but it’s a (chefs kiss) of ineptitude right out of the gate.

Oh and all game threads are available in the archive forum down at the bottom of the main page. Usually someone closes and moves It after the next day’s thread gets made.

The issue was bad plays in the 8th. Errors and Passed Balls. Trout delivers.


But lets win the series and go 3-1!

A team with this much power shouldn't be trying to steal so much.

Somebody has got to teach these hitters how to recognize and lay off sliders. Luis Robert is going to be another Adam Engel if he never learns this.

Leury Garcia should never, ever bat 6th.

Collins shouldn't DH until he proves he can hit.

I see the lil fella had another tough night.

LaRussa looks so sleepy and tired already and there are 161 games left. I bet he steps down for an advisor role next year. 

Madrigal had a throwing error? I need to go see this soxtalk meltdown in person.

How can he prove if he can hit if you don't want him in the lineup? He made contact every time, his strikeouts were an issue before and it seems like he is going to cut down on those. Even the greats don't have a hit in multiple games every year

No one gets more excuses made for him.  It’s pretty simple, Madrigal just has to prove his naysayers wrong.  Last night was Exhibit A for why some of us think he’s mediocre.

I don't even think Madrigal is mediocre. I think he's flat out bad, and he's going to get exposed this year. Wait until they start shifting him opposite field and up the middle. 

Madrigal is going to have to prove that he can pull the ball with authority, even if it's not a HR before anyone will take him seriously. I think he's about to prove that it no longer matters how good your contact skills are.....you have to have power in this game.

Yeah if you're not going to hit for any power and not be the fastest runner, you better be playing GG defense.

IMO, Madrigal needs to do a cycle of steroids if he ever wants to be effective

This is the team. Play them and shut up.

But it's not physical on defense. He made some pretty tough plays with good strong throws from behind second base.

His issues are all mental. He missed the easy play in the last playoff game and in a critical situation last night he missed an easy throw. Hes a little like Alexei that way. He needs to get his head right in critical situations. Hopefully, he calms down with experience.

I was extremely disappointed the White Sox weren’t wearing #74 patches to honor Eloy last night.
