June 28, 20223 yr Time to have this conversation. This team sucks. I say they move any of the short term pieces (Pollock, Cueto, etc) and perhaps even guys like Giolito to build for next year. Can’t completely tear it down again but this team is garbage and needs significant personnel changes.
June 28, 20223 yr Need to unload some of these 1B/DH types for some real defense. I’m fine with getting rid of any/all non pitchers besides Vaughn, Anderson and Robert
June 28, 20223 yr this was badly thought from the beginning, build around SP and a bullpen, but surround them with a worthless defensive cast

They're right back where they were in 2016. Edited June 28, 20223 yr by Jack Parkman

June 28, 20223 yr Wrong - A decision will NOT be made until the ASB. They have 6 vs. MIN and 3 vs. Cleveland. If they can claw to within 3 or 4 GB by then, no White Flag is happening...
June 28, 20223 yr The roster construction of this team is just severely flawed. Even if everyone was healthy and performing as expected we still have way too many plodding 1B/DH players on the roster.

I like my idea of Vaughn for Chisholm, but that’s just because Vaughn’s defense is always going to make his bat less valuable than it should be.
June 28, 20223 yr Very against Hahn being able to retool. He has zero talent to scout major leaguers. Will always fall in love with players who are older because they are cheaper, and after ten years he’s still Charlie Brown lining up for that football. Maybe a fourth degree would help him learn.
June 28, 20223 yr Sox need a retool this offseason for sure, but it simply isn't happening midseason. Could they move Cueto and Pollock if there is interest come late July and we're 10+ out? Yeah, maybe. But they aren't tearing this thing down to the studs, or even trading impact guys controlled thru 22 like Gio and Lynn.

Baltimore is 1) playing great lately; and 2) not nearly as bad KC, Detroit, Oakland who the Sox still play 31 combined games against (35% of remaining schedule). That makes no mention of the 11 against AZ, Seattle and Colorado. After this week, the Sox legitimately have a cakewalk schedule. But....none of it matters if they don't play signficiantly better baseball than they have, and play no worse than .600 against MN and CLE.

And while Giolito has an extra year, part of a creative retool is to think a few moves ahead. And that extra year raises his value a lot. And waiting until December reduces his value a lot. Boston, San Franciso, Milwaukee and maybe Tampa could use Abreu Pretty much any contender could use Giolito. Perhaps something for a reliever. Pollock et al for just salary relief.
June 28, 20223 yr Really though.............what can they do? The Sox really only have two options: Stay the course or tear it to the studs.

The Sox aren't trading Giolito and punting 2023 in the process. Sorry. Abreu is unlikely to be dealt, but perhaps if July is disaster.

You're funny. No need to tear it all down. You can make a few offseason moves to better this roster and provide more flexiblity and balance.

Get rid of all the "old time" thinkers. Replace Duncan with an actual analytics guy. Pry someone from SF, CLE, LA to be the GM, replace the coaches with analytical thinkers. Spend the offseason to un-Menechino our hitters. So much needs to be done

June 28, 20223 yr I am not even going to speculate on what needs to be done. I have no faith in this organization. We can only hope injured players can get well and start producing. This franchise stopped caring a long time ago.

That’s not true really. They could trade guys like Giolito and Hendriks now, get several quality young players for them, and then sign free agents this offseason to replace them. That is expecting the Sox to operate intelligently though so it won’t happen.
