  • Matt Spiegel is reporting that Joe McEwing and Darryl Boston are both gone. Sounds like Katz and Hasler are the only coaches returning.

  • Gone. There will be a new hitting coach.

  • Are people really disliking this guy already, or are they just serial complainers? He’s a qualified manager who has been on a winning staff. I’m sold he’s going to be better than what we’ve had since

I must be missing the joke about this statement, which is objectively true

A member of one of the worst organizations in baseball over the past 7 years would be more accurate than hanging on to “achievements” 8 years ago. Wasn’t he just a catching coach also during that time?

Them harping on communication and collaboration this much makes me think Tony just sat around in his office and didn't talk to anyone.

Griftol saying that the Sox didn't have high energy last year. I guess that's what happens when Low Energy Tony is your manager.

Anyone who watched them could say that honestly.

There isn't a manager who doesn't give their players days off.

Hahn bringing up changes to pre-game planning for the offense. I guess that's something that Tony didn't do.

Funny that Rick mentions pre-game planning and offensive approach.

And now Hahn basically confirms the offense wasn’t prepared game to game

So Tony and this team offensively really did nothing to prepare to play the game.

Yeah, it was pretty easy to see that these guys weren’t prepared every game and had no coherent approach at the the plate.

So did Tony do anything at all last season?

Love that he’s talking fundamentals and defense.

Other than drunk nap in the dugout, seems pretty obvious that he did nothing.

Just curious:  Are you just annoyed at that choice of words to describe Grifol?  Or do you not like the hire?

I'm guessing his health probably played a role in that. The Sox absolutely killed starters in 2021. So either we got lucky all year in 2021 or there was some planning going into 2021, but not so much in 2022.

I'm loving this guy.

Just some info regarding some of the comments:

Matt Spiegel of 670 the Score reported that Daryl Boston will also not be returning.

And it was Kenny Williams who JR personally told his parents that he would take care of him when the Sox were trying to get him to sign a contract instead of continuing to play football at Stanford.

They are certainly saying the right things.

If Griftol is just a decent manager, he'll look lightyears better than Tony. La Russa being out of the game for 10 years and him being 77 really put the Sox at a huge disadvantage every night.

Pedro is a big fan of communication.

If there's a word cloud of the things said in this press conference, communication would probably be the biggest word in it.

Yeah he’s like a kid out of college at a job interview who keeps saying the same buzzword.  Not saying it’s bad or anything, it’s just repetitive.

Why would he, he's a HOF Manager and he thinks no one is smarter.  Case in point would any other Manager thinking of Intentionally walking someone with 2 strikes. Hard to find a genius like TLR.
