Pedro Grifol named White Sox manager; Katz asked to return per Rosey

Fine. I will leave. You win. It's not fun anymore being a fan of this organization anyway. The Sox will never go anywhere with Hahn or Reinsdorf involved anyway.  Life is too short to invest any more time in a product with diminishing marginal utility.

My son won't grow up with a rooting interest in the Sox either, and the White Sox couldn't care less about that, so neither do I.

I don't even have to put a curse of them...they manage to self-sabotage everything themselves.

I would like to commend you for using anyway instead of anyways (there are those who will tell you that’s not a word) and couldn’t care less correctly.

  • Matt Spiegel is reporting that Joe McEwing and Darryl Boston are both gone. Sounds like Katz and Hasler are the only coaches returning.

  • Gone. There will be a new hitting coach.

  • Are people really disliking this guy already, or are they just serial complainers? He’s a qualified manager who has been on a winning staff. I’m sold he’s going to be better than what we’ve had since

I know it’s easy for us to look down on the Royals and fear we are hiring cast-offs from a shitty org (pot meet kettle), but if we look past that bias Grifol and Tosar seem to have really good reputations and seem to have had past success helping hitters reach their potential.  That alone feels like a breath of fresh air for the Sox org.  Will it work?  Who knows.  KC bias aside they both like solid outside hires, and this insular org could use a lot more new blood.

That were actually hiring coaches that can coach is a big plus.

Royals fans are always disappointed though...

Perhaps.  But it seems this Tovar guy is really respected for what he's done with their young hitters.

I never understood the infatuation with hiring someone from a "winning organization". To me, it's a nothing burger.

You see it all the time in all sports. In the NFL you get guys who are hired like the Broncos coach because he was tied to the Packers and Rodgers. As if Rodgers success is due to him, and not vice versa. Same thing with guys like Brady and Mahomes, etc. Inevitably they go to their new teams and fail and GM's do it over and over and over. You see the propensity to do this in the MLB too. As if the bench coach for the Astros is the reason their core is all succeeding. Not because they have the deepest pitching staff and murderers row with Yordan, Tucker, Bregman, Altuve, etc. etc.

There's something to be said about learning from the "greats" and also being in a winning organization in terms of observing the ins and outs of a winning culture ... but all things considered I just don't think it's a big deal. There's enough thoughtful and talented people in MLB that if you have enough connections should be able to rise to the top through reputation. Hopefully this is one of those guys.

Seems like a lot of guys offseason coach (including Yonder Alonso and John Jay!). Specifically he's cited as a big reason for Jorge Soler and Salvy Perez being able to untap their power.

They're really trying to push credit on a lot of guys over there for Salvy Perez when the only guy who deserves credit for Salvy Perez is Salvy Perez.

Probably but it's Perez himself who has given him some credit and of note,  he started with Tosar the offseason prior to him hitting 48 home runs out of no where.

Good players are good players though. Regardless, seems we're going to embrace a power approach.

The guy worked with 2 players who couldn't untap their power potential and they both ended up hitting 48 homers after. I don't think that's some sort of coincidence.

Man, if he can unlock Eloy's power and get Moncada back to even near where he used to be...

Vaughn, Robert, even Anderson...lots of work for this guy to do, but the rewards could be significant.

Where were all these great articles about these KC coaches prior to them being hired?

More pulled fly balls and less fly balls to the warning track in CF will greatly help this offense.

More left handed savages will help even more.

What about Daryl Boston?

He's the first one that should have been shown the door.

I think it is good that the white sox did not make a "superstar" manager hire, and will have one integrated with the process of the rest of the org (including maybe outside hires of his own to put his stamp on development).

I don't think the rest of the org is strong, but I do think Getz more than anyone has tinkered constantly with PD and it's a step forward.

I just have a hard time believing Eloy won't have one monster season in his career. Please let it happen where we have some chance of competing and not just to get us a handful of prospects.

So on the Score they’re saying that this press conference could be more than just announcing the manager. It could be that and something bigger.

I hope KW isn’t retiring.

Excited for the press conference but let me be the first to come up with the slogan of Grifol’s Grinders as a slogan for his players lol

For the record, every tidbit I've taken and posted in here has been dated prior to these guys even being on the radar for the Sox.

He has already said this deal was his last, so that wouldn't be big news

what is with white sox media and constantly alluding that they know more and never saying it? Goodness, maybe Cowley was good for something.

Garfein said on the Score this morning that Boston may return as 1B coach ?

"a member of two American League pennant winning and a World Series championship staff with the Kansas City Royals"

LMAO
