Any kid with that kind of bat profile is likely getting picked 1:1 straight out of high school and has no need for college baseball. It was never ever okay to take Madrigal with a top 5 pick.

I don't ever remember a comparison to Gwynn, but I think the term "elite bat to ball skills" was used quite a bit. Little did we know that their definition of that was elite [weak] bat to ball skills.

The biggest issue was he couldn't/can't stay on the field and his defense was below what we were expecting from him. But he hit well in the minors and was objectively a good hitter on the Sox even if people want to fixate exclusively on the lack of power.

December 10, 20223 yr Look if Madrigal could stay healthy he would have been putting up 3-4 WAR seasons with us. I dont think it was a bad pick and I am confused with the obsession with it when there are far worse draft examples over Hahn's tenure to choose from

I was giving examples of actual generational hitters and Madrigal was billed as having that type of upside coming out of Oregon St.
