  • Sounds like a great concept. Tell me again how many guys in the White Sox rotation they either drafted or signed internationally? Cause it better be a lot. Houston has like 6 of those guys.

  • I guess you forgot Kopech had 2 whole years off, so being part of a division champion rotation was pretty absurd.    Besides, you just told us the Sox get no credit for Kopech because you don’t

We are used to being cheap. It's always better to sign elite players when you can. We sign guys past their primes looking to catch lightning and that rarely works.

Legitimately shocked Cohen let deGrom leave the Mets. I'd now expect them to pivot towards signing one of Verlander or Rodon.

Mets fans getting on Yankees fans about potentially losing Judge and then DeGrom leaves the Mets.... I call that irony.

JDG hasn't pitched 100 innings in 3 years. The Rangers are lost

Will Texas ever learn....

Rodon to Mets, Verlander to Dodgers IMO

Agreed

Man that's crazy.  I thought most of these guys were going to resign with their teams but that doesn't look like it will be the case.  There's going to be a lot more movement than I thought.

He’s obviously great, but he would be my biggest red flag pitcher. He’s max effort and 35. The other older guys like Verlander and Scherzer do more pitching. His body parts have shown signs of failing. I think he’s elite for 2 years tops.

Eh, I think this tracks so far with last few years. The $6-$8 mill happens in feb.

Remember braves jumping on Smyly for 1 yr $10 mill for like 8 IP a few years ago? Anyone teams think have potential go for $10-$16 mil. Surprise to me is Eflins years.

The Disney money is burning a hole in the pockets of owners and GM 's now. They got it and they're spending it.

Must be nice to have an owner that prioritizes winning. I'd much, much rather "overpay" for a star player in this contention window than whatever the hell Jerry is doing right now.

Just in time for Ryan Poles to trade him for a stiff WR

Rangers now have signed three players to +$185M contracts in the last ~12 months whereas the Sox have sign zero $75+ contracts in franchise history.

Market for the elite

That is really insane for a pitcher. This is one area I agree with JR. Develop your own or get them in short term deals for big bucks - long term with massive bucks is just so risky.

One thing that Rosenthal or Bowden mentioned is no company will provide insurance on this contract, so there is a non-zero chance of this blowing up in epic fashion

Except for Jerry. Sigh

Maybe they're not all that confident in his ability to stay healthy.

Semien had a higher fWAR last year than any White Sox 2nd basemen has since 1965. But the final few years on that deal might get ugly, so clearly Jerry's approach to not even bother with signing good players is the way to go ?
