Yep I’d keep him on the roster just for that extra run in the 7-9 innings…PR/defensive sub, I’ll deal with the 0-1 that he gives the team

So who is the last guy on the bench if you’re going with Hamilton, Leury, & Zavala?

I guess if you had a bench that featured: backup catcher (Zavala), a backup infielder (Leury), and then a stronger backup OF, you could in theory keep him as the 4th bench guy. I like more versatility though.

With the new base running rules next year... he could be way more valuable than you think as a late PR option.

I keep seeing people reference the new base running rules. Did I miss a new rule, or are you just referring to the larger bases?

Larger bases mean slightly shorter distance between bases. Also pitcher's limited to only 2 pick off moves for a runner on base. Once you make your 2nd move its off to the races for the runner.

Speeds up the game with the guys that will throw to 1st 3 or more times and gives fast runners license to steal.

I am not ready to call that as I still think there will be a trade off the major league roster.

We might see the most SB in years with that pickoff move.

Nothing wrong with this. Veteran depth is much needed. Should he NOT make the opening day roster, I imagine he can be optioned since this is a milb deal?

Yep and after pick off attempt number 2 that runner at first can get as big of a lead as they choose before taking off because of the pitcher throws over a 3rd time and does not get the runner he is automatically awarded 2nd base

Definitely nothing wrong with this, but I hope we have a better 4th OF in mind to start the season with.

Love Billy...but hope he enjoys Charlotte

Thank you. I understood the benefit of the larger bases, but I wasn’t sure why people were referring to the plural form of the word “rule”. I forgot about the pickoff attempt rule.

Chuck got his guy.

Will be nice as a late innings PR.

Leury is our 4th OF for now. Not sure if I hate it since we are stuck with him.

for a guy who really couldn't hit, he had some great moments for us.

Zero offensive upside. Unfortunately can’t steal 1B.

No, but he can pinch run for Grandal or Vaughn if needed in a late inning rally.

I got to be honest, I really hate the idea of Leury as our 4th OF.

I got to be honest, I really hate the idea of Leury still being on the team in any capacity.

Well yes. Sadly there’s no way around it haha

He was one of the worst players in the history of baseball last year, but he’s a useful bench player if he can hit like he did prior to last year.

(And if the manager uses him properly)

Here's your 4th OF'er. I loved this dude despite how bad he actually is at hitting. Should be good for the clubhouse.

What ever happened to Gavin Sheets. Is he out of the picture for 2023 all together?

That catch in MN was incredible

Probably need someone that can actually hit in a pinch hitting role, but I love this signing.  Welcome back Billy!

As you should. He’s brutal in the OF.

BillyHamilton is a fun player. He can bd a good role player as he can play defense and steal a base. I would like to see Engel back also
