Danny Mendick to Mets - 1yr $1M

Featured Replies

Steve Cohen's spending has OFFICIALLY gone too far.

Funny that none of the so called insiders on Twitter predicted this!

Wish they kept Danny and dumped leury

Kinda sad here. He was our one infielder I felt confident we’d get good defense across third/short/second.

Leury has always been bizarrely bad at second.

Too much hate for Leury. He was used the wrong way last year. I think you will see that change this year and he will have a better year.

He should be playing once a week..... you will see that.

Then why sign him to a 3-year deal?  The whole thing has stupid written all over it.

I agree

Great.. now that Leury trade won’t happen

Friggin Cohen opening his wallet again.

The Mets must be planning to move Escobar if they gave Mendick a guaranteed contract.

I thought that also. But I think even with guaranteed money he can still play in the minors. He's got options left I think.

But it is feasible they still want to shed his salary, maybe not to the extent they paid for McCaans salary with the O's or at all if they still want Hendrik and are willing to give up Baty too. But if they part with Escobar I imagine they'd want to keep Baty. Maybe Mauricio and Dominic Hamel.

But I thought any chance of a trade with the Mets went out the window after they resigned Ottavino but the discussions continued.

If they wanted Kelly straight up for Escobar I'd do that  if the Mets threw in a little money.

Wouldnt need to throw in any money. Their contracts are almost identical. 9 mill vs. 10 mill.

Mendick probably gives them similar defense at a fraction of the cost-assuming he’s ready to go opening day.  Easy trade off to shed some salary.

I am strangely sad to see Mendick go.  I didn’t think I had such an affinity but here we are ?

why.  Danny is out half the year, has really poor history of being a MLB player AND we already have to pay Leury 5 million

same lol.

Poor Mendick. Cohen probably pays his housekeeper more than that.

Eduaro's still is higher and I doubt the Sox want to take on any money especially from the Mets. Mets need to throw in $2-3M. They can afford it.

I am more surprised the Mets are giving him a roster spot over the winter versus anything else.

Small price to have 4 years of control though. If he had made an adjustment that unlocked his bat than this is solid. If not - it is 1M which is nothing in MLB.

He’s surprisingly awful at defense, just cause he can “play” multiple positions doesn’t mean he should. And the issue is paying him 5 million dollars a year (for 3 years) when you can get similar production for a fraction of the cost. I agree he should be only playing one game a week, but not at that cost.

Yeah you would think it would be a minor league deal with opt out date of around when he is likely to come back.

No trade clause:

The Chicago White Sox

Liked his message to Sox fans.

Happy for Danny.  Was kinda hoping we'd be able to snag him on an milb deal in like February, but he deserves this.
