Wasn't the stadium at least started when the SOx were rescued by the State? I mean they didnt even have a tenant for what was called The Suncoast Dome IIRC

The Florida suncoast dome was under construction.

  • I donated $5. I think it’s great. I don’t even live in Illinois but f*** Jerry.  I’ve spent $5 on much dumber s%*# in my life.

I’d rather spend $5 towards this than $25/30 for parking at the stadium lots.

  • Yeah sell the team, when the owner pays a top 10 payroll in baseball and the weak ass fan base doesn't shop up to any games.

I apologize if this has been discussed here before, but JR only owns a small percent of the team right but he is the puppermaster IE the controlling partner correct?

We don’t know his current stake, but he put down $1 million of the 20 needed to buy the club in 1981. So he owns “at least” 5 percent.

his CONTRACT as chairman give him controlling power over the club. He answer to the board but has final say.

Someone this week put the number at closer to 15-18% after various deaths on the BOD/sales...the Hobson purchase as well.

Investors are limited partners who do not vote on business at board meetings. Howard may be an exception I would think.

IIRC the dome was under construction, but the plan was to temporarily expand Al Lang Field in St Pete for one year or so until the dome was completed, so they wouldn't have a full lame duck season in Chicago.

Most or all of the investors are limited partners with no voting rights  Touche.

That “billboard” is the size of a large napkin.

A “Get Well, Liam” sign would have been so much better

That Bennett guy hyped this up so much only for it to be that in a bad location. It’s not even really a billboard. Very anti-climactic.

Or all of it donated to a cancer charity.

But how will I grift off fans' anger that way?

But wait, there's more!

I see nothing wrong with fans making their feeling known and appreciate the guy taking the time to pull it off. Full disclosure: I donated a few bucks to the cause.

I donated to this cause and I’m more than content.  f*** Jerry.

It’s not even a billboard, how anti climatic.

Guess it isn't but it is still pretty damn big and gets the point across.

I was fine with this idea when it first came up but it just seems...weirdly-timed now.  Kind of falls flat.  If these went up at the end of the 2022 season and stayed up over the offseason they would have captured a mood.  But with opening day around the corner I think most Sox fans are ready to focus on the new manager and hope the team does well, and this sort of seems to suck us back to a time we'd rather forget.  And they'll look pretty dumb if the Sox have a nice start to the season (I know, that wouldn't exonerate Jerry, but come on...nobody wants to b**** about the owner when the team is looking good.)

I’m all for it but that’s more like a poster than a billboard

It is only up for two months so given the weather that tree probably isn't going to be in full bloom.

Those billboards are going to be the cause of a lot of snorting and giggling, for sure.  A noble endeavor, worth the time and expense. ?
