May 17, 20232 yr I can think of him, Garret Crochet, and Dane Dunning off the top of my head of guys that it seemed obvious they were going to need Tommy John surgery but the White Sox pushed it back and tried to have them work through it and avoid surgery. Have the Sox had success with anyone actually avoiding TJ or do they just cost themselves several months worth of recovery time constantly?

May 17, 20232 yr Author So, heading into a supposed contending season with Davis Martin as the only viable minor league SP depth may not have been a good idea after all.

May 17, 20232 yr Never fear, Rick Hahn's wonderful depth department will easily cover for his absence. Oh wait...
May 17, 20232 yr Just imagine this rotation the final months with Giolito and Lynn gone (and maybe Clevinger)

May 17, 20232 yr Seems like this is always where this was headed. Bad break for him. He would have had a sure spot in the rotation lined up for next year at the latest. Now other guys will get first shot.
May 17, 20232 yr Dylan Covey will likely be available again. Currently with LAD. Desirable winning % for getting another high draft pick. Still only 31 lol. Bring back 2017/18 vibes. Edited May 17, 20232 yr by caulfield12

May 17, 20232 yr I always thought they needed to spend higher draft picks on starting pitchers. What is the downside in that, they either get injured or fail and go to the bullpen?

We saw something with his two-seamer back then that really looked promising...other than his 4-18 or 4-22 or whatever record it was he recorded. Former first rounder for Milwaukee, always had lots of obstacles in his path forward. We think he can really mentor the younger pitchers with his vast treasure test of experiences along his long and winding baseball journey.
May 18, 20232 yr Criminal they way they handled this much like Dunning, Rodon in the past. Basically they have NO depth now at starting pitching. Only Rick Hahn. Honest question, can he really be that dense and stupid as a GM?

He’ll win 15 games with an ERA under 3 because… magic. I dunno. They just do things to pitchers.
May 18, 20232 yr Don't forget Noah Schultz. He's currently resting up his forearm as well. Could be 6 months into his rehab instead.
May 18, 20232 yr It seems almost deliberate. No one minding the store, no one developing young arms for success.
