Sox acquire Luis Patino from Rays for cash

Featured Replies

good, need 100 more of these. Completely turnover that trash AAA rotation.

I dig this.

Love this move. Was a huge fan of him. Shocked Rays couldn’t finish his development. Worth a shot. Haven’t seen him pitch in awhile, but stuff was sick with the Padres

This is outstanding.  I'd have loved it if we had to trade Middleton lol

Coop will fix em.  Oh wait...

I miss Don Cooper and his on-air rants.

Worth a shot. Stuff and control have taken a big step back.  C'mon core velocity belt!

eh, this guy is really in the touki category right now. But OTOH, I laughed at Touki, and he's been great. Sometimes the best organizations in the world can't fix a guy, and then father time does the trick.

"What the actual f***, Rick. Cash??"

2023 is Patino's last option year, fwiw

Love this deal.  Keep em coming

Go Padres' farm system!

Rick Hahn will redeem your rep in the end.

Also, surprised no Francisco Mejia to corner the catching market after not developing one in decades.

(No, Zach Collins doesn't count!)

Unprecedented financial flexibility.

Finally...

For cash really? How much $ did that old tightass JR fork over? $500?

For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of this GM.

We are back to the Palka and Delmonico days

The Sox probably shouldn't aquire pitchers with control problems. He does have a good arm. We've never been able to get through

to our other guys about throwing strike one though.

"Patino showed flashes of brilliance during the 2021 season, but his 2022 campaign was derailed by oblique and shoulder injuries so it's unclear how much he would be capable of contributing."

Rays’ Luis Patino wants to show everyone who he really is

Notes | The right-hander is healthy, throwing hard and determined to bounce back in what he admits is “a big year.”

He was acquired for cash and our AAA starting pitchers have neither stuff nor control so this is fine.

Damn......he's only 23

If the stuff is still there this is a tremendous move. These are exactly the type of moves Hahn should be making every year instead of investing tens of million into the bullpen

I heard Patino is going to Charlotte.

He's out of options next year and only 23 so there are worse players to stay on the roster. I'd at least give him a shot in the bullpen as the mop up guy in '24.

So what's the deal? Yips? Injury?
