Really? They have such a good rotation already

But they have also offered Yamamoto a $250M+ deal. I guess you could shop someone though.

Bummer…obviously I’m going off second hand scouting reports, but he felt like a gamble worth taking.

Depends on the size of the gamble. Need to see the contract.

That’s a good point.  With this market, it’s possible he gets much more than I’m anticipating which is around 5/$40M (which is already a gamble).

Also might be with Colas likely on the way out and Grandal history...with Moncada going in that direction, Vera scuffling with injuries, that they are reassessing the ROI on the Cuban Connection.

At least for the type of money being bandied about for these starting pitchers.

Obviously they brought in Cousin...but that was the very bottom of the market.

What direction Getz can go in to make his own personal imprint is unknown...other than speed defense athleticism.

If that's the case they should  sign Kiermaier for the OF on the cheap.

The State of the Union for Cuban White Sox remains very strong.

I mentioned the Phillies a while back. They could offer a great package but they have a solid five man rotation already, iirc.

Wheeler, Walker, Nola, Suarez, and Sanchez. The first four are obvious, and Sanchez broke out as a starter last year.

Not sure I’d pencil Walker in there….def not at #2. He didn’t touch the field in the playoffs and he also had some negative comments about the team in the media after the season. Wouldn’t surprise if he wasn’t on the team.

I didn't put them in order, he'd probably be #4. I doubt he isn't with them this season but I suppose it's possible. Tough to give up a dude who made 31 starts and pitched 170 innings in this era.

We could talk about all the guys we’re “out” on?

The White Sox see him as a reliever

Remember when we all stupidly believed the Sox might sign a star player in their prime? Those were the days.

The closest was Adam Dunn, David Robertson and Liam Hendriks...other than Albert Belle, obviously.

Unless you want to count Jose Abreu and Luis Robert, Jr.???

Seems like this thing could wrap up in the next day or two with teams actually being eliminated from the bidding

I wish Getzie would hurry up and trade him for Gods sake, this thread alone has to take up at least 50% of the internet

Definitely counts as "signed in prime"

It was kind of a stealth signing in a way ... only a couple of teams in on him.

In some ways, the Robert deal seemed more momentous. The Sox actually beat the Cardinals at something for once, after always missing out on targets.

Don't think they've done that to a player not on the team since Albert Belle.

As far as star free agent acquisitions, he might be the last. As sad as that is.

Snell possibly down to Giants and Angels

Edited by fathom

This reminds me of that offseason we anticipated Quintana being traded then he wasn’t. Hahn held onto him and got Eloy/Cease at the all star break. Could happen with Cease.

I thought he wanted to go to the Mariners.
