  • Quin changed the title to 2024 BBHOF: Beltre, Mauer, Helton in. Buehrle stays on.

Beltran and Andruw Jones the biggest winners.

Sheffield will eventually get pushed in by the Veterans' Committee, probably after he and the writers who didn't get along with him are long removed from their various beefs/feuds and have passed on.  Those numbers and NOT ever getting nailed for steroids equals an eventual vote in his favor.

Buehrle may not be a Hall of Fame caliber but he was outstanding. Worked so fast; he was an artist on the mound. Mark couldn't pitch in today's game. He routinely cruised into the eighth or ninth. Love me some Buehrle.

Beltre 95.1, Helton 79.7, Mauer 76.1

Wagner 5 short in year 9

Sheffield off ballot 63.9

Buehrle stays on at 8.3

Couldn't be happier about Sheffield. Terrible human being.

joe mauer wtf lmao

Yeah I'm not sure he has the numbers to be in the hall. His peak was great, but very short. His bWAR and fWAR are both in the low 50s. That's usually not enough to get in, even at a position with shorter longevity like catcher.

How many catchers in the last 20-30 years, though?   Biggio started as a catcher, lol.  Ivan Rodriguez, with a cloud over his head.  Piazza, likewise.

Carter and Fisk from the previous generation.

Mauer’s case was a pretty easy Yes. His damage was as a catcher. Three batting titles with an MVP. Over 2000 hits. A franchise player, Being a good guy doesn’t hurt him either. It’s an honor he deserves.

Next year Wagner, Ichiro, and Sabathia are getting in.

He claims he didn't knowingly use steroids, but was once provided a cream by Bonds to recover from a knee injury.

Ortiz waltzing in has kinda ruined the sanctity of the Hall regarding questionable steroid use for me. Blatant use? Sure.

Ortiz being in while being on the 2003 list by his own admission while holding out other steroid guys is insanity. There's more evidence against him than say Roger Clemens or the same as Sosa.

If he'd have kept pitching he'd have had a shot at 300 wins. Would be a lock then.

He had 214 wins and retired at age 36.  He would have had to average 13 wins/season until he was 43 (in 2022) to get to 300.

Agreed it still would have been a long shot but he had Jaime Moyer type longevity in my mind and could have pitched into his 40s no sweat.

I think 250 would have gotten him in on the regular ballot. The future “lock” number for starters will be closer to 250 than 300.
