Opening Day Angels/Sox 3/27...

I'm actually excited just hit me as I get going for work here. At least with our game and then hoops we got a lot of action today spread out.

  • This is easily the least looked forwarded to opening day in my life.  But with low expectations comes the opportunity of fun

  • Even MLB.tv is trying to save you from watching this organization.

  • I would have NEVER expected a Vargas K to start the season.

Happy Opening Day! Still hoping for Comcast Deal…..

Story in the Tribune today stated that it is believed a deal has been struck BUT Comcast is waiting to finalize a deal with Marquee Network before moving both to the most expensive tier and the Sox willingness to air games for free over-the-air is still an issue.

Well the outfield defense should be competent for once too.

Opening day, March Madness and Masters are possibly the best two weeks of sports calender. Other contender would be NFL EPL CFB in September but I prefer to be headed into summer not winter so this week wins imo.

Hope springs eternal! Strap it on and strap it in...because we will all be sitting on it by June!

Add into this the Hoosier Hysteria for Indiana HS basketball and you have it all.

Can add all the NCAA portal movement and winding down of NBA and NHL seasons...but golf was so much more fun 20-25 years ago when Tiger Woods was dominating.

I can help but thinking most of these algorithms are written with smoothing techniques which have problems with outliers.  It is a pretty common issue with statistical modeling.  Because models don't have an example of any of an extreme of an outlier as the Sox last season, they assume it can't happen again, but with a little bit more consideration to maybe it could, and will spit out a result that is still probably too optimistic based on what has actually happened with this team in the last season in terms of boots on the ground.  This was a 121 loss team, which season over season, has seen a pretty decent outflow of talent.

Your example in terms of talent actually isn't a bad comparison to what the Sox are seeing.  They are fielding a team that models probably can't really comprehend when compared with all of the other examples the model has to base it's historical analysis on.  It wouldn't expect 12 year old on a 17 year old team, just like it wouldn't expect what happened last year to the Sox to happen again, even though on paper, today, this team is worse overall.

That was my first thought when I saw the lineup. And with Amaya at SS, defense should be solid. Just hope they don’t hit it to 3B often.

Yes.

Yes that roster selection is all about Venable's comfort level...loss avoidance/prevention, more so than "winning" offense.

Absolutely

Was Vaughn robbed of extra base hits often last year, or Just My Imagination, Running Away with Me.

Crochet not signing an extension and not negotiating past today has Boston fans all pissy.

What I hope for; Sox 5 Halos 4

What will likely happen: Halos 8 Sox 3

That is interesting as I really did think this would be a hard contract to agree to with his depressed arb earnings, and his large separation between that and what he could be worth if he is a full time starter without injury problems who hit his ceiling.

I think I’m more looking forward to west coast games with good teams after my kids go to bed

Connor McKnight is going to get Schriffen's job if there isn't a lot of improvement. They are getting him ready.

Just remember that Montgomery, Teel, Quero, Meidroth, & Ramos will be coming up at some point and will assume significant at-bats.

I wish I could say the same about the pitching reinforcements but they all got TJS.

I remember when Moncada, Kopech and Robert were on the way too

I don't trust any of the guys you mentioned will be the ones that turn this garbage heap around
