Anyone who thinks Tony LaRussa brought anything positive to this organization this time around is truly derranged.

  • I may be in the minority but I have no issue with them keeping Luis. They have nothing committed to payroll next year and no one knocking at the door to be an every day CFer. Also, I would consider ke

  • Oh no. Chris Getz maybe asked for a desirable target in trade negotiations. It's truly unfortunate dialogue ends completely after one player is inquired about.

I 100% believe they'd target Outman, but for fucks sake, he's older than Robert and just had a catastrophic season.

Terrible trade. Simply a salary dump.

I’m assuming that the prospect would be Josue De Paula based on past conversations.

I mean if that front line prospect is De Paula or Freeman I'd happily take Outman too. If we're moving Robert to LAD, I'd like to grab one of those mid top 30 SP prospects like Ryan, Fraso, Bruns, Hurt, Knack, Grove, etc. Half those guys are hurt so LAD might be willing to let one go.

I feel like he would be interesting. Outman doesn’t really do anything for me though. I’d already rather get another minor leaguer than him.

Thought this was thread worthy here.

“The Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers have tabled trade discussions that would send center fielder Luis Robert Jr. to the Dodgers for Triple-A outfielder James Outman and a front-line prospect.”

per Nightengale.

So the rumor is that there is no trade talk.

Outman's a AAAA player at this point.
So it boils down to "front-line prospect."
Nah, just stay away from the Dodgers.

Outman does have a higher ceiling than what's normally available on the waiver wire. This is his last option year. If he doesn't pull it together at AAA, he's gone end of year, anyway. He's certainly not a headliner.

So is this a thing or not a thing?

Unless Robert gets hot, and STAYS hot, through May and June, we aren't getting anything of worth back in a trade. IMO.

As bad as Robert has been, Outman is living up to his name in AAA and doing worse. He is nothing at this point.

It is comical this trend of finally getting a name on Sox fans radars the minute they become irrelevant.

zero reason to trade him right now outside of saving more money

My initial trade for outman was giolito for outman and amaya and this is a tremendous monkey paw moment now

Nightengale said it’s “tabled”, whatever that means.

Very Hahn-esque

It's means discussions have stopped for now.

my understanding of "tabled" means they were previously discussing it but aren't anymore.

Such a dumb word with opposite meaning depending on where you're from/context

In the U.S.:

  • "To table something" means to postpone or suspend discussion on it. Like, you're putting it aside for now.

    • Example: "The committee decided to table the motion until next week." → They're not talking about it anymore, at least for now.

In the UK and many other Commonwealth countries:

  • "To table something" means to bring it up for discussion.

    • Example: "The MP tabled a proposal for healthcare reform." → They just introduced it to be discussed.

Outman could only be considered as 40-man roster depth. He might give you some production, but he also may not, and even if he does you know he's basically already in his prime year so it wouldn't last long.

The eventual Robert trade is going to be very telling whether Getz has made real progress in fixing the foundations of the organization.  If you believe that Harold has real sources, the Sox are clearly eager to move Robert.  That being said, Robert is our last big trade chip and Getz needs to find a way to optimize his value which is certainly suppressed at the moment.

But IMO, there are real reasons to believe he’s about to pop.  The traditional metrics may look ugly right now, but the underlying peripherals look good.  If I’m Getz, I’m holding out for a big rebound from Robert and only trading him early if someone meets my price.  Will Getz stand his ground and wait for his price to be met or will he panic and take the first half decent offer?  Will be fascinating to find out.

Outman is garbage but this would’ve made it a great trade.  I would be surprised if the Sox managed to get a prospect the caliber of De Paula by the time all is said and done.  He’s rated the 3rd best Dodgers prospect and 37th overall by MLB Pipeline.

It depends who the prospect is. I’d love Hope, but I also have no hope.

That’s who they have been asking for?  Seems like him or Hope would need to be in the trade.  Still think that’s an obvious move for the Dodgers to make if the other pieces are minimal (such as Outman).
