I don’t know where else to put this but do you know who else should be headed to Arizona to work with Ryan Fuller for a couple of weeks? Brooks Baldwin.

I think he’s a fun guy, and can be a positive player for the Sox as a super utility guy but the offensive profile right now is dangerously bad.

He only walks 4% of the time, league average is 8.4% so far this year. He hits the ball on the ground nearly 50% of the time at 47.1%. He has a launch angle of 12.3 degrees, which is well below league average of 20 degrees, and well below the desired sweet spot of 30 degrees. His launch angle is also down about 13.4 degrees. He doesn’t see a lot of pitches, he doesn’t take his walks, he hits the ball into the ground way too much. He needs to overhaul his swing

His situation isn't nearly as dire as Colson.

Elko has averaged around 2 years older than league average throughout his career. Montgomery has averaged around 4 years younger than average. Yet it's time for Colson to "get off the pot?"

  • Vaughn has put up exactly 0 bWAR in 5+ years at the MLB level. 595 games, 2,395 plate appearances. If he was just straight up released tomorrow there shouldn't be anyone who thinks "wow, they gave up

How this was used as dig at people overreacting is wild.

it's just as bad imo. Less valuable player to the org, but why not make sure all your assets are performing up to the org's standards

Because you aren't taking a guy in the majors and doing that. If you want to send him to Charlotte, sure. But Baldwin doesn't need his entire swing AND approach changed.

The metrics say, yes he does.
And it’s not entirely uncommon to give a guy a phantom IL stint so they can work on something. It happens more with pitchers, the Dodgers do it a lot, but it’s not like it doesn’t happen. I’m not saying demote him to AZL ball.

At the very least...his career doesn't seem to be on a death spiral any longer.

Hopefully it proves sustainable.

Make it 4-4, another homer

Waste of time. Just let him go.

Colson since his AZ trip: .361/.439/.667 for an 1.106 OPS.

13-36 with 5 BB, 5 2B, 2 HR

Looks like maybe sending Colson to AZ wasn't the worst thing in the world.

Now the bigger problem is actually with the health/depth/pitching side of things.

liked hearing what Fuller said about it on the broadcast last night...seems they've really stepped up the services offered at the AZ complex. is it a 'bad sign' to send a player to AZ or is it unprecedented because there was nothing worth sending them to?

hopefully it sticks with Colson. I think it's a good sign for player development in general, hopefully the ACL guys are getting something out of it...Profar jr. not looking so hot thus far.

At the very least, it was the recognition of a problem and the realization that something had to be done differently.

Where's WestEddy to claim the win for Getz?

I wonder what IT was.  Any guesses?

LH or RH swing ? I recall that he launched some balls LH with an uppercut swing. Brooks is a young player that might be trying to do too much to impress.

Baldwin is hitting like .500 since returning to Charlotte. He may not be a great major leaguer, but he’s not broken.

Even Alcides Escobar hit like 900 in Charlotte...big difference between there and Chicago.
