He was only 37. I've never met anyone on this board, at least knowingly, but like many of you, it was a huge part of my formative years. Heads always seemed like a genuinely kind and caring person, and this news makes me wish I'd gotten the chance to know Alex. I say he was only 37 in part because the persona he portrayed here demonstrated a maturity far beyond his years, and I would've thought he was several years older than me, not a year younger.

Insane to think how quickly life can just end. Definitely a reminder to not take anything for granted. I'd like to know if there are public details regarding services, especially if there is a specific cause the family would like memorial contributions to go to. I want to do something in honor of Alex.

My fraternity brothers, of all years, try to reunite annually since Covid changed things.  A moment of silence and toast is performed for all who are no longer with us.  Perhaps at the next SoxTalk gathering something similar could be performed?

@southsider2k5 gave me a heads up about this yesterday knowing that I probably wasn't going to see it and he said "you don't know some guys, but you know some guys." I've met a few people from this board in real life and I actually never met Alex but his presence was just like one of those online buddies you just kind of count as someone you know. Rest in peace buddy.

Even though most of us have never met in person,  we still have those real life memories and stories which makes it just as real.

yes that is crazy, always figured he was older than me but he was also a year younger.

The one problem with the internet in general is the abstraction that takes place where we are anonymous entities that interact with other anonymous entities.  It sometimes removes the humanity of it all.  We forget that these usernames are people with lives, loves, hopes, dreams, families and real world issues.  I never met Alex in person but interacted with him on here. He was a good poster and seemed like a generally good human being.  I am so sorry for the loss to his family, loved ones and his friends.  It seems like he impacted and inspired those around him.  That is the hallmark of a good man.  God Bless him and may he receive external peace.

Man this hits hard. I've known about Alex since 2003. I joined this board in January 2004 and he was one of the first ones to welcome me in. The dude was such a great person. I still have our DMs (along with some other OGs here) from years ago here. One of them which I just happened to look at, was when I couldn't see or afford to watch MILB games online and the man literally gave me his email, username and password to watch our farm affiliates. You will be deeply missed Alex. May he RIP and prayers to his loved ones. 

I mostly lurk, but I was here (under a different name) all the way back in 2002 from Soxtalks humble beginnings. This is senseless and tragic. Just fucking awful news.

A lot of how I feel has been said. It is odd how this can hit you despite not previously having a name or face to the man. This community has meant a lot to a lot of people. I will add that I dont know any ISU fans personally so whenever I see a athletics headline where they pull off an upset or win a big game, I would think of him. That will continue to be the case. Rest in peace.

Like some have said, whether we know each other personally or not, we are a family in many ways. 

Absolutely awful. I didn't interact with him much on here through the years but he seemed like a great guy. Condolences to his family and his family on here too.

I can’t recall him talking about Hall much but he was psyched about the other two.  He probably was a Hall fan too I just didn’t see it

It really bummed me out reading this news. So, so tragic. I honestly assumed he was an older guy based on how mature he came across and because he was one of the OGs that helped run the show here. I lurked here for a while before this account (let's be real, probably had an account or two that got banned, but I really don't remember). He was always such a quality poster as long as I can remember. He was only 2-3 years older than me, but damn was he wise and mature beyond his years. He was always kind to me despite whatever shenanigans of mine the mods had to deal with. 

Interesting the type of relationship/bond you can develop with people just by reading their posts and seeing their avatar frequently on an Internet forum, whether you conversed with them often or not. I was never particularly close with him, but it still hits home after sharing a message board with him for years and years. 

It's especially awful when somebody dies this young and in such a senseless manner. I wish everybody would take seriously the responsibility of driving a motor vehicle. RIP to one of the good ones. Heads clearly played a major part in making this place one of the best sports forums on the internet.

I haven’t been posting here that long and I can’t remember Heads but so sad he is no longer with us, may he rest in peace.

Wow - I don't make it on here enough/as much these days. Like to pier in here and there to still see the pulse of things.

Very sad to hear this. Alex was such a kind dude, and as others referenced, a bunch of us transformed from teens to 'adults' in the real world with this and some late night AIM being our constant water cooler or check-in. 

Always thought of Alex when I see an ISU game on over the years. Will still think of him when I see them. Rest in peace, good sir. 

 

This is incredibly sad and disheartening. His input on this site always carried a ton of value. Always fair and balanced. Prayers to him and his family. It really makes me sad to to read this thread.

I am a huge 49ers fan, wish I was able to talk to him about Purdy a bit. 

Wow, I actually read about this accident a couple days ago because 3 of the people killed were from my wife's hometown who I guess he was in the car with. Crazy

Soxtalk has been a great thing in my life and Heads is a big part of what has made Soxtalk great. Terrible for him to go, and so young too.

One of my favorite people around here. So sad. May his family find comfort and continue on his life through the rest of their days.
